>>43366083>What would the USA look like today if Japan won the war instead? What definition of won?
>Won as in they managed to secure and defend all pacific holdings outside of Hawaii?>Won as in they captured Hawaii and forced America to agree to an unconditional surrender?>Won as in they captured Washington and set about occupying the country while setting up puppet rulers like China?I suppose for the first case the US would be much more oriented towards the Atlantic as it has fewer major ports and areas of influence in the pacific as well as the fact that treaties would likely dictate at most a parity between the American pacific fleet and the IJN. America could also be assumed to resume its isolationism following the war in a similar manner to the end of WW1 meaning that assuming Europe ended the same way a cold war would develop between Britain and France and the USSR, or the other way some form of cold war involving Germany, Japan, and the USSR assuming they were able to make peace or whatever.
For the second case odds are the situation would be much like the first except America has a much more limited navy and has to pay Japan reparations. Americans would likely have very strong anti-Japanese sentiments and a war in a couple of decades as well as hate crimes against Japanese Americans would both be likely.
For the third case probably a bunch of small states (California Republic, Texas Republic, Union of New England) led by rulers nominally loyal to Japan. Odds are uprisings and rebellions would be common and Japan would be forced into a costly war of attrition they would be unable to win. Much like if Germany actually conquered all of the USSR as far as they planned to extend to in generalplan ost.
As for the likelihood, 1 is the only one that was even remotely likely and that would have required constant major fuckups on the part of the Americans, as in every major naval engagement resulted in like 5 American carriers sunk for each Japanese carrier.
