>>43375609>but goddamn is that sadWhy?
I mean, I perfectly understand why it is not everyone's cup of tea, but how is it any more sad then using your playing pretend time to be the most SPECIAL AND IMPORTANT person in the imaginary world?
which may be an extreme representation of your position, but no more extreme than how you painted mine. And I wouldn't really call it a foregone conclusion, just that discovering and preempting the endgame isn't really the point as a game.
Consider the show, the "GM's" plan went to shit cause Rei's player decided that the bonds she formed with her fellow PC was more important than listening to Gendo at the very end, which in turn gave Shinji control over instrumentality, who ultimately rejected it due to what HE had learned over the course of the series.
The pilots in the show were not very proactive in discovering and stopping the big plan that went down at the end, but they were an important part of it. Because of their CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and that is what caused the GM to not stay on the set plan he had laid out for the endgame, not Shinji hacking the Magi and blackmailing people into revealing their secrets.
A game more focused on flawed characters dealing with their flaws in an extreme situation is what an eva game should be about over a game where the PCs actually confront the conspiracy bullshit head on. Both are fine types of games to play, and I would personally play in either, it is just one is actively trying to emulate the show and the other is going "Man I would have done so much better than that pussy Shinji" and ultimately missing what the show was all about and trying to call it an "Eva game"
I will say it again for emphasis, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER TYPE OF GAME, but a game focused on trying to emulate the show should not be one that just takes the trappings of Eva and makes an action game, even if I would personally play in either one.
