My personal favorite is the wandering ronin archetype. i feel like a weeaboo for liking it but i can't stop
>the character itself is an aged, disillusioned veteran of battle, now turned independent for whatever reason
>travels the lands righting wrongs, has a strong moral compass and a sense of honor
>wears very simple and humble clothing. he might fight barechested if he means business
>uses a very common and practical sword to fight, as his power comes from within
>typically fights using a typical samurai swordfighting style with well-aimed, graceful slashes and stabs
>as he is older, he relies more on intuition and precise movements rather than reflexes or power

>maybe in a more fantasy-oriented setting he would also have some more impressive and more magical-seeming attacks, but they would all stem from his excellent swordsmanship and strong fighting spirit rather than anything else
