They made humanity Sensebound. But they also have the means to redirect the damage.
God only helped out in the Architects' one project (the Lenses). But they could've spun it into God being pleased with humanity.
The general public does not know about the Lenses project, but the city's organized crime surely does.
As for the Architect that directly caused this, he had no choice but to flee. The others had their discussions with him many times, but pinning this tragedy on him to absolve themselves of blame instead of sharing equal fault would be best for the city, if not for humanity.
