Best Holy Symbols

No.43360461 ViewReplyReportDelete
I'm going to have to go with Shar.

Simple, elegant, with subtle beauty, deep mystery, but an unmistakable aura of menace.

It's a symbol that can be used in clothing and architecture without looking overdone, and also does a fantastic job at representing a night goddess that opposes a moon goddesss, as well as her being a goddess of loss, secrets, and forgetfulness. It even is in the form of her favored weapon, the Chakram.

One interesting aspect of the physical holy symbols is that the material that they're made from is of extreme significance. Though the design never varies, whether the central part is made of common stone or ebony, onyx, or jet of deep significance, just as whether the border is made of purple quartz, amethyst, or even purple sapphire, signifying rank within the strict hierarchy of her church.

A wizard infects a human-only medieval-like setting with a plague that kills all men once they fulfill or have exceeded age of 16.

In seven years, all males die between 15 and 16 years of age while there are no older men left.

How does this affect the society?

Lets Not Argue About Guns edition

Fate/Stay is an AAANIMMMMEEEE series by Type/Moon studios in which modern day magi wage small scale pre-arranged with each other for the favor of the semi-self aware super powerful artifact, the Holy Grail. These 'Holy Grail Wars' are waged with the summoned spirits of humanities legendary heroes, referred to as Heroic Spirits, conjured from Past, Present, and even Future's true and false by the power of fuck you it's magic. Last Mage standing earns the favour of the Holy Grail and gets to make a wish. Spoilers: Turns out the Holy Grail is full of all of humanities evil, manifested as a mucky brown goop that smells like shit and burns like the evilest of curries. I'm not sure if the Wizards are actually aware of that last part but they probably don't care because NO SENSE OF RIGHT AND WRONG.

Last thread actually went really well, extending to 200+ replies and getting archived, so I thought we could continue. Topics of discussion are generally "What historical/mythological figure would make a great Servant, and what would their Class be?" and "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THOSE CHINKY FUCKS DON'T THINK GUN USER'S ARE HEROIC MUH SIMO HAYA ASJKDFKSJAFHA"

Who's playing ravenloft on Halloween?

I set it all up on Roll20 but I'm a bit nervous. I've never ran it before, but I did play it before.

How do I capture suspense? How do I make them scared the characters they made just for this game may die?

You are John James Green, mutant vagrant.

As deep down as high up. As low as tall. As dark as bright.

That’s what Creeper said about this city, once. He said that people had buried things down here, beneath the decades of concrete and filth and footfalls, and those things had stayed in the dark, hidden, forgotten. And they’ll probably stay there forever, or until the whole city bites it, and one day some future archeologist comes digging, brushes and chisels at the ready to expose the city in death as it never could be in life.

You wouldn’t exactly call Creeper a chipper individual. Not if you knew him. But sometimes, you can feel that things he told you were true. Sometimes you think back and you hold onto his words. This is one of those times.

“It was a little ways past here… there’s another tunnel that just kinda leads on into nowhere.” Alani’s voice is barely above a mumble. She moves just ahead of the group with one arm clasped close to her chest, almost protectively, occasionally nudging the light of her torch minutely to one side. “Nowhere people have been using, anyway. It’s weird.”

You walk. The old tunnel stretches on.

I have some ideas for a Persona-based campaign. Are there any systems that either base on the franchise or are easily moddable to suit it?

It is the Year of Our Lord, 1135.

And you are Mathilde, young daughter of Sir Wilhelm of Koblenz, unwed sister of Lord Wilhelm of Ramla.

And you are hunting a spy in the castle of Ramla. Someone close to your brother was not who they claimed to be. They were selling his secrets to his enemies, and setting him up for failure in his planned invasion of Ascalon. It was up to you and a few hand picked companions to find this spy and stop them before they can do irreparable damage.

Into this scheme you have recruited your handmaid Margaret, and you are working closely with your brother's paramour Chihirizahd. Maggie was currently assigned to tracking Xenophanes, while Chihirizahd was playing with Rosalie for information. The spy had turned Rosalie into one of his agents. You thought Chihirizahd was playing a very dangerous double game with her.

Meanwhile, you were about more general inquiries. You had interrogated your brother's priest, Father Desmond, and found little information there. You had put feelers out among the men-at-arms, which had produced some information on the counterfeit coins circulating through your brother's fiefdom. But still you had not discovered the agent.

Your chief suspect was the town reeve Xenophanes, but his guilt was far from certain.

Striding through your brother's hall with your carriage high and noble, you set to the task of unravelling this mystery once and for all.

> visit Chihirizahd
> recruit another into your plot (nominate)
> investigate Xenophanes

I'm trying to imagine a setting where sports teams are actually guilds where its members either study or worship/represent something (i.e Rockets, Saints, Bears) or its members are literally what the guild is named after (Wizards, Patriots, Raptors). What would be a good system for this?

If you have a favorite sports team and you had to join their guild version, would you be okay with it?

Tactics and combat roles

No.43359835 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hey /tg/, let's talk about tactical combat systems and roles. D&D 4e does tactical combat very well, but I wonder if certain roles and mechanics could be done differently.

First of all, I wonder if there's a better way to do a "tank" than the Mark mechanic in 4e. For those who don't know, defender roles in 4e can apply Marks to enemies which causes them to take accuracy penalties for attacks that don't target the defender, and there's often a punishment mechanic too.

This is great for an aggressive defending style, but I feel like it's not a good way to represent someone who's just a big wall who stands in the way and blocks hits. What systems do a better job of the "unbreakable shield" sort of defender?

Second, attacks of opportunity make positioning important, but they can really slow down combat. What are the best or most clever ways you've seen systems make positioning important without slowing down combat to a slog?

I'm also just wondering in general whether there are good ways to break out of the mold of tank/defender, healer/support, damage dealer, crowd control as combat roles. I haven't seen it much in systems which do attempt to codify combat roles.
