My group got a league pack and pulled in a few people that we didn't know to try and kickstart the area. After a few rounds most of the new people drop out and we restart the league, still having one of the people who never tried learning the rules saying they want to stay in. I was super excited about the league, but as the first few missions are nothing but small point, rule gimped camp fests while I bring out a flanker it really killed it for me. Now I just look forward to the usual games with the group instead of the league games for now. Almost feels like a waste...

I haven't played a game of Infinity in about 3 months, and have been looking to play some Ariadna.

Has anyone tried to do a coalition style force where you take a minimum of 2 from each sub section of Ariadna?

It's been pretty fun trying to fill in certain gaps and looking at alternatives than spamming Foxtrots and taking the same loadouts (Tankhunter Auto, Vet Kazak AP HMG, Paracommando HMG, Spetsnaz HMG, etc,.)

Your firepowers a bit touch and go. Terrain management is going to kill you or win you the game with this loadout. You've got enough specialists to manage, but that's going to be a bit clutchy as well. I'd consider giving something like a HMG or the Minuteman and swapping the Zouave for a Paracommando. Balances your loadout some. You've already got a strong midfield, and a french flavoured spitroast is going to do you more favours than a HMG up close. Maybe a FO, maybe a BS. I'd probably try to give the Wulver a Mk12 as well, it's got a lot more utility than a T2 rifle, and he'll be a great backup attacker with it.

I noticed that was one of the more sour spots to it. I want to try different loadouts, and 4 is usually the sweet spot I am after. The Maverick and the Scout are going to be crutch (they have not let me down yet), and even the V. Kazak Paramedic has done his fair sure. Mostly with that lovely LFT and his Mimetism keeping him standing up straight.

I really wanted an ML in there. Vanilla can't link it, so I opted for a platform that was 1. Fast 2. Somewhat durable 3. Possessed solid stats.
The HMG on the Zouave is such a strong headeache for my opponents. Mimetism, Cover, and potential Suppressive Fire really makes them burn orders I have found or at least think about their choices.

T2 is something I wanted to bring and it really saves costs on the Wulver. I know DAM 15 and better range bands would be favorable, but I have a feeling with Climbing Plus and the chance of putting two wounds would really deter any midfielders.

That's kind of Ariadna's schtick, right? They want to utilize terrain with their camo and stats since they do not have much going for them in the hacking, bts, and armor departments (aside from Mormaers, Dogs, and V. Kazaks.

Really? I figured with the loadout you have, you'd want something reliable for offensive operations when you really need that range. Hence the HMG. You've got closeup stuff stitched up pretty well, and nobody wants to attack into an Ariadna probability field of death with midfield as choked up as it is. ML's good for reactive fire, but it's got an awkward range set, and only B1 when you're attacking.

Fair enough. It's got a lot to recommend it, but it seems a bit fragile on the offense, and it's one of the few decent shooters you have if you need to scape out enemy shooters. Every list needs a few shooters that can reliably deal with sniper types, to give the closer up guys a chance to run.

Thing is, as far as I can see, you only need a single wound on most midfielders, so the T2s quite a selectively useful ability, and DAM 15 means you can threaten just about everything, including the lights that come kicking down your door. You've got a lot of decent close up types, so I figured the MK12 was a good opportunity to extend your threat a bit. Nobody wants to rush a midfield when you've got so many templates, mines, camo figures, etc around.

Well, you've got the zouve and the chasseur at the front, and then in from behind comes the Chasseur. You've plinked away their overwatch with your long range shooters, and then it comes time for every Ariadnian's favourite game: Door Kicking. And the list has a bunch of neat options for that. Something coming in from behind (ie, AD2) can really complete that paradigm, because you can bypass their front pickets and hopefully get into their cheerleaders, or with luck, their LT.

They're excellent at it, certainly. But inevitably, every board includes a lot of opportunities for sniping. And it favours Ariadna very nicely because nobody wants to really push foward too readily. If you can counter their shooters, and create some gaps for your closeup types to advance, you have a very strong combination. A single SAS or Highlander Grey is counterable. But once your shooters have been dropped, nothing's there to stop the bastard from getting in close, and THAT's where you find out that all those cheapish Ariadnian midfielders can still kick ass close up. They're cheap because they're less universal in places, but if you can cover that, then the terrain management really comes into it's own, because the enemy can't really take advantage of your weakness. You're the Vietcong, all of a sudden. You can raid with impunity, and they can't really decisively counterattack.

I find I rely more on camo and cover than anything else. Beyond that, armour 2 and armour 4 are pretty close in practise, and offensively, they also have a good choice of Dogged types, and types that can fight well enough close up that they don't get hit.

That's the beauty of Ariadna, I think. They're a bit like a Goblin deck in MTG. They've got just enough dick-kickers that you can't stop their haymakers. And their haymakers are strong enough that you don't really have the breathing space to uncover your crotch and really move into a proper offensive stance.

The safest bet is to run something similar, that forces their more fragile line into a combination of attrition and limited offensive options, but if you're running a PanO smash list or something, you're not really built for it. It's the classic schwerepunkt vs elastic defense scenario, and Arianda's very good at playing both sides.

Yeah, they definitely have that toolbox feel in the same way I feel that Nomads does, obviously just swapping out tech for skills.

Ariadna being the most skill dependent of all of the factions since what gear they do have tends to not hold a candle to the other factions of the sphere. Sepsitor immunity is a huge plus.

That's how I felt when I played MRRF. The amount of midfield units (Zouaves, Chassuers, Moblots, Paras) made it a headache since my whole backfield was in his midfield.

Well, the ML was for point ARO defense. It hits harder than a Sniper Rifle and is on a solid platform. I already have an HMG on a somewhat durable and versatile platform. Don't get me wrong, AP HMGs are never underappreciated, be it from a Grey, Minuteman, V. Kazak, or a Tankhunter.

I'd argue it is as good as the 10% damage increase from the of a Mk12 if not better. The chance to double the wounds done (denying abilities like Doctor + and even putting HI unconscious is a serious thing). I won't argue that higher armor opponents in cover will most likely shrug it off, but if a round aims true, he won't be stuck in for very long.

Ah, yeah I used to do that with the Paracommando HMG all the damn time. All. The. Damn. Time. I've heard good things about the CRAPSAS, and I feel like the unit has received a buff in N3, so I really want to try the bastard out, I mean his kit is the definition of "Fuck you" to anything in the backfield, cheerleaders all the way up to master marksman.

They really are solid. The Sniper being better on the ARO due to gaining Shock ammo from the regular SR and having all the benefits of Sapper and Mech. Deployment.

Eh, I wouldn't go too crazy about the lack of gear on Ariadna. They have an array of SWC guns on ridiculously points effective chassis that other factions could hardly dream of. It's pretty easy to have an Ariadna list completely outgun a rival list in terms of firepower.

Lack of gadgets, certainly.

I tend to keep gear and weapons in separate categories similar to arms and armor.

With the highest level of MSV being 1 for Ariadna, I have to agree with you. Their weak gadgets tend to be made up for with very strong weapons or ammo types. Another facet that helps Ariadna is their above average stats and plethora of skills.

Yeah, they're a bit light on the fancier bits of gear. Although it's worth mentioning that what they do have more than makes up for it. Camo, AP, and Template prevalance more than makes up for hackers and TO and holoprojector, IMHO.

See, the issue I've had with Meros is that while they can do a great defensive and foward deployment game, they lack the really excellent Ariandian offensive units. No Scots, no Tankhunters, no Vet Khazaks, no Antipodes. They can hold ground, but they can't take it. And if you disrupt their defenses, they have difficulty both adapting, and taking it back. I've had a lot of success against them with a combination of strong shooting and warband style pickets. It might just be the way I've seen them played/played them. What did you find they were using for offensive/rambo operations? Duroc can't be that common, surely.

Just quickly crunching the numbers, assuming both the T2 rifle and the Mk12 are in sweet range, the Mk12 is better, unless the other guy has Dogged, or multiple wounds. And 16-24, the Mk12 has a significant advantage. I just don't find that revived midfielders are that common. Particularly as you may well finish them off with that first volley anyway, or end up killing their doctor later, or disallow their doctor to get in with midfield control.

They're a nasty, nasty figure. Mimetism really breaks the camels back in those cases. I love Carlotta, she's flexible as all get out, but when I use Paracommandos, I know they'll fight as well as anything.

If I didn't have to take FOs... Assault Pistols for all the light stuff, and AP MA2 for the bigger things. Chain rifles for camo and suicide hits. Flexible, surprisingly surviveable, and cheap. Strength 16 AP with surpise attack is a great little thing to have in your pocket, particularly in counter camo ops.

MSV1 is actually not shit in N3, and coupled with Marksman L2 means you're hitting a TO camo marker in cover on the same roll you'd hit fusilier Angus if he did have a cover bonus.

Loup Garou fire team or Moblot fire team. They truly lack any real breachers like Wulvers, Cams, Antipodes, and the like.

Paracommando HMG is the closest to a Rambo, but lacks sustainability. Especially since it lost its Paramedic profile. I would tag team those two and see how far they could go.

I crunched the numbers on the dice calculator. The Mk12 chews the T2 for breakfast on practically every target until you get to multi wound models and even then it is still not favorable for T2. Shame, I really like that T2 female Wulver, she's my jam. I'll just have to proxy, she is in too cool of a pose to pass up. Now to find a point in that list somewhere.

Do you play CHA a lot? I was looking to get into them, but am still holding out for more options on their HI profiles and maybe another specialist. Doesn't have to be a camo/infil, but it does need to be quick. I would even take Advanced Deployment with a 4-2 MOV like the Marauders.

4-4 WB specialist would really make CHA feel more unique (aside from vanilla having the Irmandinhos).

I'd move a scout down to the second group. Scouts aren't really super optimized for being button pusher FOs and you'll problably be disappointed in how traktor muls perform now. It's definitely playable but could be improved

Well, her pose is a fairly easy one to convert. And more than a few sniper rifley looking guns from 3rd parties would fit there very easily if you didn't want to carve up another Mk12er.

Not so much. I usually play regular Arianda with a fairly healthy dash of CHA. Ariadna has too many neat toys spread out for the promise of some scots guard link teams to be that enticing. Greys and Mormaers I tend to use on their own, SAS don't need to be that numerous, and Galwegians area already easy to get. Wulver Fireteams are pretty rad though, and CHA have some pretty interesting balances possible between warband types and decent conventionals. Aggressive without losing much firepower, you know? And I'm quite fond of Mormaers whatever the list.

A specialist warband would be very nice, and certainly would alleviate the present CHA issue with specialists. Not sure what it would be, that wouldn't step on extant toes. Although I wouldn't mind a more middle-grade example of clansmen. Something between a Grey and a Galwegian. Like a Reiver or something.

Oh no, don't get me wrong: Scouts are excellent and if you're maximizing combat group for points then even a FO isn't a bad option. It's just they're like SAS, they're like using a pitbull as a purse dog. They're more than button pushers.

As far as Traktor muls go, the one with a cheap AOE DA template is still pretty swanky and can increase the punch of your FOs. They're just not the unhackable gods of artillery they used to be

Alright Infinity General,

I want to get into Infinity because it's relatively cheap, the armies are smaller and more manageable than something like 40k, the rules are pretty straightforward, and I like the models.

I've been reading through the fluff and i've narrowed down my possible faction choices to Yu Jing, Nomads, or ALEPH. Which faction should I go with? In terms of difficulty to play, where do these factions stand? I adore the Nomads fluff and models, but I also really like Yu Jing because i'm a filthy East-Asiaboo and I also really like the ALEPH models and GITS vibe. I'm torn and could use some opinions.

Also, I managed to convince one of my roommates to get into Infinity with me and he's fully committed to Ariadne. Which one of my potential factions would be the most fun to use against them?

Well, Nomads are great hackers, some of the best in the game. Which is cool!
Except most of Ariadna stuff is unhackable.
However their Intruders are camo guys that counter camo. It's just one unit though.
Nomads are a toolbox of various equipment, they just don't have anything particularly heavy.

I could not tell you anything about the other two factions. I know Yu-Jing is HI-focused and Aleph has sturdy units with lots of remotes and named characters, but that's about it.

The first post in all our generals has a faction run-down that gives basic outlines of how the factions handle in-game, so that should be your second port of call when deciding. Also look at Sectorial lists, and see if there's one you like in particular.

I play both Ariadna and Japanese Sectorial Army, and for a while my most frequent opponent would just bring MSV all over the place to fuck with my camo. For me it's just the whole "Resurrection," androids, computers, hacking and such. Nomads have that too to an extent based on the fluff i'm reading right now so it's more or less universal to the whole setting.

I actually like the Greek themes in ALEPH though too. The Illiad and the Odyssey are some of my very favorite ancient myths.

The really annoying thing about it is that it's made ALEPH less distinct as an army. I mean, I actually like the Myrmidons and stuff, but it's not questionable that the ASS shit is less interesting than the SSS stuff. ALEPH originally was looking like a faction with lots of utility and fast, durable, hard-hitting expensive singular units backed up by less outstanding remotes. The ASS stuff on the other hand is just straight up facebeating.

The really fucked up thing is that vanilla Aleph would still be totally competitive if there were just more lieutenant options. The strength of vanAleph is in stuff like the Asura, the Dasyus, the PROXY3, etc - nasty, tough, expensive fuckers that cost a ton but often pull more than their own weight.

Unfortunately they're really awkward to fit into lists and would benefit immensely from having more loadout options as lieutenants. Why you can have an Anathematics or Achilles lt but not an Asura with a spitfire as one is fucking baffling. Having to resort to that ONE extremely obvious Deva loadout because there are no other real options is completely ridiculous. Nobody wants a Dasyus lt because then you're either not using TO camo or starting with everything irregular, and nobody wants to spent 68+ points on an Asura that doesn't bring something at least as heavy as a spitfire. Correcting this stuff would require little more than a quick errata.

I'll be really pissed if this stuff isn't fixed in HSN3.

Hackers aren't worthless against Ariadna. They can put models into isolation very easily since they have no BTS and they don't generally spam engineers so getting it fixed isn't easy either. Vet Kazaks are immune to it but slapping a dog warrior into isolation is essentially taking him 70% out of the game

Throwing around ideas of a Kornak Gazarot and Sogarat link team, currently came up with this list. I want to stop the polak hordes in their tracks and laugh as their little bullets bounce off the armour of my glorious Sogarats.

The plan is to start the game with Oznat/Gaki team as the primary link hidden well away, then at the beginning of my turn switch the link to the Sogarats and Kornak, wreak as much havoc as I possibly can and set up camp in the midfield, then give link back to Oznat team. The Rodok and two FOs could be swapped out for something else, but are there as mandatory specialists.

Nomads have that in spades. They're probably the best faction for hacking shenanigans. Lots of excellent drone choices as well.

Everyone but Ariadna has access to lots of hackers though, they're often an option for most units.

There's some pretty neat fluff bits that come at you from left field in infinity. Like the Illiad bits. Aleph did that to basically try to tap into that primal heroic instict. The Combine EI probably has the cold rational logic part stiched up, so Aleph is coming at the issue from the side. Fighting it with humanity's humanity.

...and that's just the stuff I can name from the factions I run regularly. Once you hit a certain points cost (43+ generally) and USUALLY when you have a low AVA like 1-3 it's very common for models to have SWC options as LTs. The Asura qualifies perfectly, as both an extremely costly and low AVA model. It also fits the position fluffwise.

I think you may have posted the courtesy list, it'd be useful to see what points you're working to without guessing.

That hacker isn't going to do anything on his own so I wouldn't bother - you don't have any repeaters, or remotes for him to support , so that 8" range hacking device isn't going to do much. Better spending points elsewhere.

Could use a long range gun, if you could fit a sniper in there it'd help.

Can't really offer much more advice without seeing the points.

Even Haq gets into the fun with some big gun Lt LI.

Which annoys me to no end considering Nomads have no zero SWC line troop Lts and any Lt options we do have only have one loadout. I'd love to give my mobile brigada/Intruder Lt a big gun or my hacker Lts boarding shotguns.

First, you'd do well not taking Atlanta. She's too goddamn squishy and expensive. The specialists you're taking are probably the correct ones for supremacy.
Beacon race values fast models to run the beacons, as well as the ability to control the beacon room. Dakinis are decent runners, while dasyu FO are pretty good at pushing the button and controlling the room with mines. Smoke on myrmidons is hot for covering move-moves for the runners. Lastly, liberal use of coordinated orders can keep dakinis and myrmidons cycling back and forth efficiently.
For the armory, bring Achilles. It's an 8x8 box. There is nobody your enemy would hate to be trapped in an 8x8 box with. Some myrmidons can help too.

You could easily make the E/Mauler Zero count as a different Zero. No need to worry about that.

Overall, the second is a pretty solid list for 150 points. I'd just make the Zero to a minelayer so that she can more easily annoy the shit out of the enemy while the Intruder picks them off from afar.

No. But she IS super squishy and she's usually a high priority target for the opponent. Most people use Snipers defensively, but Atalanta is not a defensive sniper (Squishy, B1 ARO, and Spotbot doesn't work in ARO). All of this makes her less worth taking over an Agema.

But I still take her every now and then, because I like the miniature. When I use her, she starts and ends in Prone state to avoid getting shot up on my Reactive Turn.

Dakini sniper is dirt cheap and can be buffed, naga has camo and dogged, dasyu has nwi and TO camo to help it stay put, and the mkii -though unable to effectively use its TO camo - is cheap.

Atlanta costs a whole lot of points, and while she can dish out a mean shot, if she's hit, she's in big trouble.

Trying to figure out JSA before I make some purchases. I'm set on taking a full link of Haramaki and taking Shinobu or (more likely) Saito so they have some smoke cover. I also wanted to grab a box of Karakuri, since remotes with Heavy Shotguns seem awesome. But the Keisotsu just seem like they're there to die. okay so the rule that keeps Traktor Muls from being taken without a traktor mul control device is that they're REMs and would normally require a hacker or TAG to be taken, which Ariadna usually lacks. Thus the control device added on to the dozer.

However, if that requirement is met by an Anaconda or Isobel Mcgregor, could Traktor Muls be taken without a dozer?

In a list with 5 Keisotsu and 5 Haramaki? Is the Domaru+Kempetei too obvious? Should both squads be in one group or should I split them up? Is the Spitfire Raiden worth it? Because his friend with the rocket launcher seems like he can do a lot more damage for less points. Also, where can I find a good hacker if I was looking to actively support a trio of Karakuri?

HRL Raiden is undoubtedly better, but the Raidens as a whole are outmatched by many things. Having a normal camo marker in a JSA list also makes it painfully obvious what that thing is, as we only have a single CH: Camo profile.

I usually use either a Keisotsu, O-Yoroi, or Asuka as my LT, along with a Kempei for the latter two. As long as the Kempei is well concealed or protected, it shouldn't be an issue.

Well, for hackers you have exactly one with regular hacking device (if you don't count spec ops).

One though lieutenant with CoC is usually enough.

thinking up a scenario that includes a tank and an APC.

Player A has to escort an APC with a VIP that is also guarded by a MBT through a city map with open streets. Player B has to either kill or capture the VIP and has bonus points for killing or capturing the armored vehicles. Player B may set up a few road blocks after the tanks are set up but before either army deploys.

The tank and APC are irregular and extremely impetuous but must move towards the destination point instead of an enemy model.

Tank stats

6-4 BS15, ARM 13, BTS 9, STR 5, hackable(counts as TAG) may only be damaged by anti material weaponry. Mono weapons only do 1 damage but otherwise work as normal.

Tank cannon: Damage 18 AP+EXP, may not fire in reaction.

pintle multi HMG.

Has MSV3 and is assumed to have a defensive hacking device/engineer on board with WIP 13 who can use the tanks order to repair or use programs.

If player A is playing Ariadna, the tank only has MSV2 but also has a coaxial autocannon that may fire in reaction. The multi HMG is instead an AP HMG.

APC

6-6 BS13 ARM 10 BTS 9, STR 3, hackable(counts as TAG)

Pintle mounted multi HMG. MSV3

Same rules for a defensive hacker/engineer, same rules for Ariadna.

If the APC is destroyed, place a smoke template on the APC model and place the VIP in base to base with the APC. The VIP model follows all rules for civilian VIPs from then on.

Forgot to mention the tank cannon is impact template round B1 and is automatically a normal roll versus a shooting ARO.

It seems like a fun list with guys repositioning and ambushing the tanks as they move. It also has the option for hacking the vehicles, just taking them over and driving them off your deployment zone to win.

The scenario might need a few hackable road blocks and options for D charges as IEDs. Seems fun though

That sounds really bad. Like, completely unfun. I get that you're coming from warhammer where that scenario would be pretty cool, but no thank you. Ultragun armored tanks with too many special rules scenarios are basically single player wank-offs.
If you want to focus on tank fights play another game.

I think a 250 vs 300 would work out fine if both sides were allowed to tailor the list to the scenario. ARM 13 is a bit but anyone with a missile launcher can threaten the tank from outside its LOS.

And speaking of Geckos; I plan to paint the two combi one in garish white and pink/purple with hearts, kitties or bunnies all over it and use the lolipop Moderator as a pilot. I initially thought of painting the other one as Megas, but now I think having one being a reference and the other not would be weird...
And also I have the other Moderator, so I could probably use him as the pilot for the second Gecko. Any suggestions for his machine paint job?

As long as you have an anti materiel weapon that can survive long enough to take out a STR 5 tank in 2 turns, considering it moves 20 inches per turn

Seriously, think about this for a minute: when have you ever played a game where one side is given a super unit and it turned out well/balanced? One player is not going to have fun. That's what happens when you put asymmetry in a system balanced around comparative symmetry.

Lol, it's effectively immune to an entire faction. It kind of requires that the list be tailored to deal with it, as good anti materiel isn't super common in Tohaa, Haqq, and ALEPH. That's the issue I have with it. Also, just because someone likes Infinity doesn't mean they have to like the animu style it draws from you fascist

Tohaa has excellent K1 options and nothing states it couldn't be ADHL'd.

Counting as a tag for hacking means it can be IMM, possessed or have its occupants ejected.

It's BTS 12 against hacking as it has an inbuilt defensive hacking device. ADHLing it doesn't get rid of the occupants. Tohaa have 2 good k1 options. They're not excellent at killing. Aelis is excellent because she comes with so much shit, and the Kosuil is excellent because it's cheap. Neither can survive a crit MULTI HMG ARO, or expect to walk through the battlefield with impunity. Also that pretty much reinforces my point that lists need to be tailored.

Although keep in mind the target is the APC, the tank is just a bonus. ARM 10, STR 3 and unable to receive cover presumably isn't that hard to kill. Attacker wins if they kill the VIP, just gets a bonus for campaign if they capture

hmm, well maybe we could drop the anti material requirement and let the high ARM/BTS do its job. We can let space guns get crits on tanks.

I think the other limiting factor is that the vehicles have no PHY value and thus cannot change facing in ARO or try to get out of ADHL, although they have an engineer to try and repair it. I think that paired with allowing stuff like D-charges to be placed on the path ahead of them and used as IEDs would probably work out for the not-tank player.

Although I would try it 150 pts + tanks vs 300 just to see how useful those vehicles actually are.
