>>43253394The crux of the problem is that most people don't realise how much they don't know, which is why they make statements like this. We're bullshitting ourselves, to keep going, but this is the problem of our lifetime, and well, even I'm tired of repeating myself on an internet forum trying to change at least one or two mind, it's almost impossible not to feel hopeless, because this is a problem, where 7 billion are a participant, and where you must convince them to consume less, travel less, eat less, upgrade less, buy less, sell less,.... basically live less to fix it. And that's almost impossible.
Oceans have already lost 40% of all phytoplanktons due to ocean acidification, which form the basis of the ocean food chain, we'll have our first ice-free nordic summer in the next five years, the glaciers WILL completely melt away,
Bangladesh is already under water, an incredible amount of people will have to relocate.
But that's nothing, there is an incredible amount of methane trapped up north, about 500 to 5000 gigatons of methane contained in the East Siberian Arctic Shelf and it is starting to release all its methane says Dr. Peter Wadhams of university of Cambridge. The atmosphere has only 5 gigatons of methane atm, and methane is a 86% more potent greenhouse gas than CO2. You can do the math.
Like the climatologists in the article I've linked below, I am also quite depressed, because we love bullshitting ourselves, we are natural bullshitters, and we are selfish. I don't think we will wake up soon enough to realise how dire the situation is and that sadly makes me melancholic. It's like we are in our swan song, but once bees migrate up north because it's too hot, and the entire ocean ecosystem is fucked up because of acidification, and we have terrible, terrible time growing food because of famine, and realize the severity of our mistakes, it'll be too late.
