Lycanthropy in my world is genetic. Werewolves in human form appear like normal humans, except with thicker, black body hair. They tend to be more muscular than other races, but this often is a product of their surroundings. Werewolves turn from human to wolf whenever particularly hungry or angry, but older werewolves can learn how to turn at will. Younger werewolves show little control of their beast form, and are very animalistic upon turning. The more a werewolf is in wolf form, the more control they receive over their mind in wolf form. Additionally, werewolves are immune to vampirism
Werewolf society is very tribal and nomadic. Inherently, they practice anarchy, and are guided by their own morality than actual laws. The De Facto leader of a werewolf tribe is the strongest, and provides for the youngest tribe members who cannot provide for themselves. Outside of children, members of werewolf tribes are expected to take care of themselves.
As a result of their natural prowess in combat, most societies have allowed werewolves to happily roam freely. The lands in which Werewolves live are in the far north, in frozen evergreen forests and snow covered moors. There are no permanent settlements in these lands; werewolves tend to take shelter in caves and overhangs.
When a werewolf ages to become an elder, they are expected to remove themselves from their clan. Often, they leave to serve themselves as a lone wolf in the wilderness. Less commonly, they trek south, to incorporate themselves in martial lines of work, namely guards, bounty hunters, soldiers, and huntsmen. Werewolves who do this are quite revered and respected for their service, and are treated much the way decorated veterans are to be treated.
Because of the stark difference between the social standings of werewolves and vampires, most disputes between them are class based. Vampires become angered at the inequality, werewolves take pity on them, but both see each other as somewhat equal.
