So I'm working on a homebrew system for a setting me and a friend thought up a while back, and I'm having a hard time fleshing out the resolution mechanics. I really want to utilize a d6 dice pool system and I like the idea of rolling a pool of dice and counting successes determined by surpassing a TN. Unfortunately, I've no clue how I should make that system work, specifically for something like combat.

Any of you fa/tg/uys know a system similar to what I described that I can use as inspiration? Or even better, does anyone have suggestions for how I should make things work?

In addition to answering my own question, feel free to ask your own questions about dice mechanics or just talk about them in general.
