How does /tg/ handle plagues, quarantine and similar concerns in their campaign setting? Purification by fire? Leper colonies? What?

Also, any stories to share about plagues playing a roll (tee hee) in their games? I'm looking to include a plague-arc in one of my own games, but I'm worried it will be too deadly and realistically, kill too much of the population to be a viable set piece.
