You are Captain Dominic O'Hara, and tonight is the night of nights. You and your teammates are about to face the unknown for what may be the final time, as a combined fleet of Titans remnants, Republican Zeon, and EFSF special forces prepare to engage the oncoming Mars Zeon fleet.

Paptimus seems to be waiting for the same thing you are, and is holding his forces back for the moment while your allied force gathers in lunar orbit to intercept the asteroid Axis. The plan is to engage the fleet escorting the massive rock for long enough that a shore party made up of Cima Garahau's ex-Zeon marines and EFSF raiders to take over the control room on Axis, so that a “backup copy” of ALICE, your shipboard AI, can alter its trajectory to take it clear of Earth and sling it into the sun.

As for your part in this operation, you and your team of Newtype aces are to wipe out whatever advanced mobile suits Mars Zeon has brought to the party so that your capital ships can establish dominance in the area around Axis. So you find yourself strapped into the cockpit of your mobile suit, waiting on one of the Nagato's port launch catapults for intel to trickle in from the bridge.

“The scouts Londo Bell sent forward have returned a datastream,” Karen reports over your comms, her tone of voice unusually grave. “They seem to be deploying their older machines defensively, with subflight systems carrying their attack force. No catching them off-guard in the hangars this time.”

“It's to be expected,” Haman sighs in front of you. “Neither side has the element of surprise.”

“Although that doesn't mean we can't be surprised,” Carya observes. “Look at the telemetry we're getting from Cima's fleet.”

“The hell?” Audrey mutters as she brings up the data on her own display. “What does she think she's doing?”
