The studio was now in constant use in order to both create and support the recently formed town guard. The bitter scent of paint fillied the air as the best artists Contour had to offer toiled away sketching pawns to life: after a completed drawing, the completed soldier hopped down from the canvas onto the material world to be ordered out to the rally point. Dozens of the silent doodles pondered out each day, to be organized by the newly apointed handlers for further orders.

Though unspeaking, the pawns communicated out their actions through hand gesture, or in some cases as had been drilled by their keepers, holding up colored sheets of paper as a crude form of sign language.

No sooner did she start writing up a mandate in a strange language consisting of colored squares, ordering a detachment of guards (and handlers) to move outward in order to take a closer look at the dilapidated realm, a tiny utility doodle lifting up the note and hurriedly dragging it off to its intended recipents.

These runes harness the abient energies of the world, drawing it and embuing in the manner it is affixed. Just as stained glass changes light into the many colors, so to do these magic runes provide a source of power.

It was nearing mid noon by the time the scouting party had made it near the crumbling remains of the city, owing to the awkward movement cycle of the pawn guards, moving into position through a deliberate series of loud hops. Behind them followed a trio of the three bravest painters the queen could muster: the lead fairy held an extra large heavy duty paintbrush while her cohorts carried a bucket of extra magical paint each as well as their own personal brushes as was custom of their kind.

The scent of dirt and dust assailed them as the smogy atmosphere of the ruined land began to encompass them: an almost unnatural haze pulsated inward and outward, tinting the landscape brown in its wake. The pawns continued to move forward as though nothing were amiss, their sensory abilities too primitive to be able to pick up such nuances without the order of their superiors.

Grasses and other growth covered much of the area, giving way to bare materials as the scouts got further and futher through a winding series of alleyways and streets, many of them blocked by strategically fallen buildings, forcing the party to move the other way, lest they lose sight of their pawn bodyguards which at this point were hindering them more than aiding.

All manner of outlandish objects sat across what the group assumed to be the remains of some type of extra-wide road made out of a substance not disimilar to rock (though noticably crumblier and darker: perhaps a canidate for making into pigment?): large metal poles that on further study appeared to have once been lamposts, twisted into unnatural shapes by some sort of heat. Alongside them stood the burnt-out hulks of weird machines, with only guesses as to what their former purpose could have been: the feys' artful eyes recognized traces of some type of paint having once adorned them.

A direct look at the structures of the inner city, unobscured by foilage revealed the true extent of their decay: metal bones poked from what was left of their stone and glass walls, most of them looking ready to come down at a moment's notice. Those that still looked to be in reasonable condition (typically the squatter structures who stood only a couple stories tall) were clearly designed by and for a beings that were some magnitudes taller than the tallest of fey: the best hint of what sort of creature could have once inhabited the area.

Sun setting, the fairies of the group could not help but feel a sense of forboding welling up deep inside of them, though the pawns seemed as oblivious to such feelings as ever. Rather than risk spending the night at the area, the group decided that they would return to Contour and report their discoveries then to risk not returning at all. After a brief moment of accounting for all twelve pawns in the squad, the painters recalled a hastily sketched out map from which they translated to their subordinates with a series of strokes. The automation-like pawns started to return to the town, the fairies breaking into flight in order to quickly navigate through the cityscape: the pawns would do well enough on their own, and if they didn't, they could always draw up more.

He allows the fight to continue, and waits until the last surviving Goblin tribe in the factory remains.

The Surviving Tribe he congratulates, and promotes to Commisars and Kapo's and officers, telling them what a good job they did in quieting dissidence and rebellion, and that they will be expected to continue to keep order and discipline.
