I got to say armada is a really good game if you have the community, nearly everything has counters and nothing is... overly... OP. There is one or two weak races from the get-go, but once you get the right ships their just as strong if not stronger than the others.
I've never played planet fall though.
I like the models myself, not overly expensive. Rail guns FTW.

It's hard to say as the different races kind of just support different play styles, at least in Armada. The players who struggle the most in our local group are the Dindrenzi player, who feels his fleet is too much of a glass cannon, and the Syndicate player, whose fleet only has four ships available to choose from without Marauder allies.

You're doing it wrong if you're losing as terrans to most things. Aquans are about the only thing that I have a major problem with, but since the Aquan fleet is the single best fleet in the game by a long space mile, it is hardly notable that Terrans lose to them. Anything else I can take.

They are hard mostly due to having an unwieldy defensive setup with their cloaking fields. They got considerably stronger in 2.0, and are utterly rapetastic in Planetfall.

Relthoza, but that's because they have one hell of a learning curve, and sorylians, because no one paid attention to them in beta testing (i freely admit it..but spartan's for refusing to go back and fix it!) and so they came out uninteresting and not utilizing the new mechanics for the most part.

The two strongest fleets are aquans, because they got too many goodies to balance their abysmal 1st ed stats, and directorate, because they're point-efficient and have one extremely easy playstyle that fucks with most enemies. And again, Spartan refuses to go back and revisit it for their own retarded reasons.

Except the veydreth one does it better. The other veydreth ships are different enough to be seen as supplemental, but the BB is outright better.

well..what do you want to play? if you field sorylians, you can take some veydreth allies. if you field vedreth as main fleet, you can't take sorylian allies, cause only main flets can take allies.

I've never heard of this game before, but from a cursory glance at the 1d4chan page it looks interesting. What about the Relthozans gives them a learning curve? I like the idea of a race of spider people.

They have short range, weak hulls, only decent firepower, but their main advantage comes from cloaking devices that force enemy to halve his attacks against them and reroll all hits over 20" range. So until they get to their preferred range, they're almost impossible to hit...but once the cloaks come off, they're made of paper. The whole schtick is when to cloak , uncloak or cloak again.

Sorylians do have a glaring range disadvantage against pretty much everybody save the Relthozans. Their gunships make up for it though, having crazy good range. Also, they have exceptional boarding capabilities.

The only race that really sticks out to me is The Pathogen. How good are they and are there any good models to use for them? I've only seen the escorts and the large battleship on the store.

That matters a lot more than you might think. It usually ensures that sorylians don't get first effective hit, which means that their return fire on later turns will be weaker than would otherwise be the case, and they're less likely to be able to get any good crits in without taking a few themselves and putting their damage output low enough that they're unlikely to crit. There's a reason that the lizards have the lowest winrate out of the main 6 races.

The Pathogen can be scary good, they are rather like the borg in that they board and assimilate enemy ships, but their firepower is garbage. They have a tendency to win overwhelmingly or derp around without accomplishing much and there is very little middle ground.

The reason is thaat they have shitty defenses- average DR, low shields and one or two units with better CR is the main issue, not gun range. They're fast enough to make the 4" gap neglible vs most foes, they just dont have much staying power despit their background stating the opposite.

Honestly, I've only fought them once, and it was the range that did them in because I was able to win the attrition war because beams meant I got to shoot at RB2 before they did, and the firepower reduction was enough to matter, so I figured that was their universal problem.

Yeah, there's only two model types out, some Corsair frigates and a Reltozan battlecruiser. Everything else you can make by taking whatever model fits from another faction and greenstuffing it. Just know there's a little more than just gooping things on, a little filing things down and cutting things off, and that you still might want to try for a uniform army scheme or faction or else it'll look mismatched in a jarring sense rather than a purposefully aesthetic sense.

I have some ideas of what I want to do. The Pathogen always remind me of The Beast from HW: Cataclysm so I'll probably go that route.

Word of warning- I did not buy from them, but they do have decent reviews online. The models are obviously a bit rough, but...it's goopy space-cancer boats, it fits the theme.
