When was the last time somebody played a character with a loyal steed?
Don't forget, not every game is Dungeons and Dragons so in some settings the party WON'T have to worry about bringing a horse into a small cramped cave!

I last did it a few years ago when I rolled a D&D character who's str was so low I could barely carry my weapon without being encumbered. I invested in a trusty pack-mule to carry all the various adventuring gear I needed.

Sadly the game didn't last very long, but the mule was totally worth it.

Best game I was ever part of, the party never once set foot in a underground dungeon.
But yeah, last time I remeber seeing someone had a loyal steed was during a One Ring preview.

In a Pokemon game I ran one of the player's starter was a Ponyta. He kept it at his side all the time and occasionally rode it into battle. It was cool at the time but now I have to keep him away from Ponytas because he'll just play that same character over and over again.

In my current game a player has Trapinch as their only Pokemon so that one day they'll have a Flygon friend to fly around on and have adventures with but that is still a while off.

I played a Bushi of the Unicorn clan in Legend of the Five Rings. I had a blast with my loyal steed "Busefarusu". Kicked so much ass during wars. Sadly it didn´t last long, since once the GM saw how powerful Unicorn´s cavalry can be in battle the game devolved into a game of "mother, may I use my horse?" for every goddamn scene.

Needless to say, I didn´t keep playing for long.

I played a horse-tribe barbarian guy in one DND game. He was from a tribe of people who really cared about horses because that was how they did everything; travel, war, hunting, and so on.

He had a shaved head because he was in mourning for his first horse, dances-in-moonlight. The whole tribe carried around these fuckhuge horse killing swords made to decapitate the horses of your enemies you captured in combat, humiliating them worse then just killing them.

That's what flunkies are for. Get yourself a custom offroad wagon with extra wheels, hire a camp cook, a carpenter, some guys to tend the horses, a few camp guards, and of course a couple guys follow in behind you to carry torches and/or loot.
Park outside the dungeon, set up camp, and head on in after you're had a nice hot meal and are good and ready. That's the civilized way to do it.
