Whats your recovery time on cyber surgery?

One of our players wants to get his muscle replacement removed and get toner and enhancement replacements. The GM is contending that this will put the player out for like 2 months and he'll have to pay the cost of getting his muscles regrown. This seems unduly harsh.
Are there rules for how long it takes to recover from surgery in general?

Essence costs are roughly the same. Nuyen costs changed. Not everyone that goes in for surgery will be 100% healthy, or if they are, that doesn't mean they won't opt for more than one item to install.

I think the general intent for that rule is the street-doc chopshop job to replace your arm after you lost yours taking on that fire spirit a couple of hours and you need to take the blood mage that summoned it out right NOW and God damn it James you don't have any god damned TIME for the medkit to heal the subdual damage, the fragger's got Katie's blood!

Playing 4e and my character took a bad fall and my spine is shattered in about 15 places.

I also have a stupid amount of nuyen stuck back, would anyone know how much a replacement spine or something similar/is it possible and how much would be the base ware or would it fall under stuff like type o system parts?

I would retire the character but I am semi relevant to plot, with our current johnson being a former employer.

well surgery of greater essences reasonably takes a greater toll on the body by the simple fact that surgery in itself is traumatic to the body. thats why they dont really do open heart surgery anymore.

but if your having titanium metal grafted on top of all your bones along with having your muscles cut out and different, more powerful ones stitched in their place, it'll take a little while to heal that up and get used to it, regardless of meds and medkits etc

Oooh, the spine? Rough break.

Augmentated Healing is a gene treatment will restore your body to it's 'original template', which will be -rough- if you're already heavily augmented, but it can re-grow the spine. It'll take months and will run you 15k a week, but it can be done.

Is there an actual treatment or should I sell it to my dm as gene augmentation with no essence loss but no increase to maximum stat?

I fell out of a plane right before it got fast and off the ground. Botched my parachute roll with 7 of my 11 dice being 1's and my edge giving me an extra two 1's and no success. After they scrapped me off the tarmac, with tire treads on my back, we broke with us moving on to phase 3 of the plan. Bringing in a temp, just wanted to see if I could save my character.

You -might- be able to get a cultured spine grown and implanted, but they're experimental and will run you 70k, along with taking six weeks to grow.

Here's a project I am working on, I'm looking to expand on one of the AA corps that doesn't get a lot of attention in the books but in our upcoming campaign the plot revolves around them releasing a weapons line to compete with Ares in the Desert Wars. You have a choice.

Suppose the world of shadowrun becomes our world. Reality will bend to ensure that everything that works in the universe can actually work, so don't worry about that stuff.

The catch? You will be made a completely random person in this world. Please tell me you put together a bunch of tables for this, based off numbers in SR lore. At the very least, it could be pretty nice for generating low-rating SINs or NPC ideas.

Currently, I have a "Random NPC Generator" that, you guessed it, generates a random NPC, with certain things being more or less likely, based of demographics. I utilize vague descriptions so whatever results you get are plausible, unlike in most random generators.

Click the little arrow next to them at the far right.

1% is awakened, but that's scraping the population for even the barest smidgeon of magical ability. 1% of those are shadowrunner grade awakened material. Most are just average people with a neat parlour trick at best.

Those numbers have always bothered me, that means there is roughly 400 people in Seattle with a meaningful amount of magic. Considering how many secured facilities and shit are around it would be nearly impossible to defend them astrally.

That's good stuff to know. I doubt catalyst put out anything matching magic/resonance ratings with percentages, but it's still something to work with.

Though the demographics are somewhat questionable. With awakened being so useful in so many fields (including entertainment, law-enforcement, and security), you'd think any that isn't a complete shitter would be making some serious bank as a wage-mage.

When I say 'shadowrunner grade awakened', I mean the Magic 6 full mage / adept / mystic adept types you see in virtually every group. Three aspected mages would be easier to drum up, work almost as well, and multitask a lot better.

Could anyone help me with Possession magic? Specifically the Vodou tradition.

I have an idea for a mage that is all about summoning spirits, and almost nothing else. And Vodou seemed interesting but... I'm not sure as to exactly what extent it works.

The book description of Possession requires a "prepared Vessel" which can be an object, or a person.

However, what constitutes a "prepared vessel" for an object, especially for such a tradition. Do I have to have a man - sized doll for it to fight? Or could I have a Totem that fits on a necklace?

If a small totem will work, what happens for Combat with such a spirit? Do we get, like, some vague aura that surrounds the totem, or do you just have this tiny totem flying around, smacking shit?

That being said, if I CAN'T do that with a possession tradition, can I have multiple spirits possessing the same body (my own) at once? I know that I can't have them all active at the same time, if that's the case.

Also, if a spirit is possessing me, and is commanded to fight, does the spirit use its own attributes, or my own?

You yourself are a vessel. You could preper an other person, willing or unwilling, to house a ghost.

Alternativly you could make a totem from natural materials, the ghost can inhabit. BUT! the ghost is very restricted in such a vessel.

So, if I'm looking for a Conjuration aspected mage, Vodou isn't a good idea, as it would be hard to get a maximum number of spirits, considering I would pretty much be the only REAL vessel for them... kinda sucks, really...

You should think about the druid, the jewish or the chaos tradion.
Druids make Humansized Puppets for their ghosts, the jewish tradion has clay-golems and chaosmages (and some others) put their ghosts in wathever they damn pleas. I'm just saying plaststeel golem chummer!

Though it should be pointed out that Magic is a trainable stat, like the rest.

It may be a 1% chance of awakening with a Magic of 6, or just 1% who make it - but there's nothing stopping you starting at 1 and working your way up.

So let me get this straight; In order for a connection to help you buy something like, say, a 12F gun or something, you need to pass an opposed charm/barter test where you get bonus dice according to their loyalty to you. Afterwards they then need to pass the opposed purchase test, aided by their connection rating.

Am I getting this right? Unsure, and my GM has not yet been of much help, either.

No, that's wrong. Generally the most you should be needing to roll to get in contact with a contact is a 2d6 to beat their Connection rating. Fixers use their Charisma+Negotiation to purchase stuff, with their Connection Rating acting as a modifier to their Limit for the roll. Personally I think that's ass and I like my players going through specific fixers rather than just blithely asking the internet for a gun, so I give the fixer Connectionx2 bonus dice to their negotiation roll for their specialty.

The opposite test You vs. your contact is only if you try to haggle the price. If you're willing to pay base price or more (+eventual finder fee), then only your contact needs to roll against availability of the item.

You GM might also require a favor from your character if your contact helps you getting something really outlandish, but this is exceptional.

You don't need to excel everywhere, just be good at a couple of things; summoning a spirit of man or some fireballs is enough for most jobs.

I have very limited experience with desert gear, but the one time I went to Sahara it was in a convoy of such vehicles.

A suggestion for the Casbah system? As it stands, grenades and rockets lose effectiveness the farther away they explode from the target (page 435 has the exact rate). The shotgun prevents any grenades or rockets from entering a 5 meter radius around the vehicle (decreasing the DV of common frag grenades to 13P, and rockets to 18P before resistance), so long it has shots left. Maybe you'd like it to have to make some kind of test to see if it actually hits the grenade. Glancing at the corebook I don't see modifiers for shooting a fist-sized, incoming flying object but it might impose some penalties that I'm not finding myself. On X hits, the shotgun fires and hits the explosive. On a miss, the shotgun fires but misses. Hopefully it's not so good that it's guaranteed to work, or so inconsistent that it is useless. Or perhaps it's supposed to be a guaranteed thing?

I think the guy who insisted that Used is the best choice didn't actually run the build in Chummer or does not know that the maximum negative essence you can get with current technology is -6. Invoked Memory Stimulator takes 0.25 Essence in 4e so the largest essence hole available for ware is 11.75. Even with Adapsin + Biocompatibility(Cyberware), 11.75 Essence isn't that much when you're using only Used / Standard. You either get an incomplete prototype with only two cyberlimbs, or with four cyberlimbs that lack the Internal Router AND Cranial Bomb.That kind of shoddy engineering resulted in the laughably weak, laughably hackable prototype that was the MK.VI in Dragonfall.

If I recall the correct augment, it's basically wires for your augments, so they don't have to be wireless enabled to get their wireless bonus. That means they can't be attacked directly. Instead any enemy deckers need to get a mark on your comlink and then from there a mark on your cyberware.

Bad example, a smartgun systems needs to get its weather/wind/GPS/whatever data from the Matrix. An internal router will only prevent a hacker to go straight for the smartlink but brick your comlink instead. (with the same eventual result, no more wireless bonus for you, even if the smartlink is intact.)

The internal router will, for instance, allow reaction enhancers and wired reflexes to work in tandem even if you disconnect.

Shadowrun is hella popular in germany, and their local publisher is allowed to add stuff when editing the books, as far as I can recall. A lot of the german/european sourcebooks where probably added because of the knowledge that they had a large german market.

It is not, as far as I know, popular in Japan at all.

As far as I can recall, the surge of popularity/visibility Shadowrun has been enjoying is pretty recent. Probably the release of 5e and those Shadowrun Returns videogames contributed a lot to it, but I would guess the market base for it is still pretty darn small.

As far as I know the team behind Shadowrun has been english? FASA and Catalyst where, anyway. Looking at Wikipedia, it seems like it is currently being owned by a german company, and licenced to Catalyst, but Shadowrun was popular in germany before that point, I think.

A researcher had been assembling a prototype combat drone in secret to discredit her superior, who'd scrapped the project. She'd been smuggling out bits of lab tech to assemble the thing, and had made a deal with a local street gang to give her a private workshop to put the parts together in.

Well, the party managed to decipher the whole scheme, but they needed to get that drone back so that the schematics couldn't be leaked.

The party:
A kick adept satyr, a greek ex pit fighter.
A gnome tank-sam, an aussie with a love of huge guns.
A human face/sam, a legit little NAN girl with tons of 'ware
a human technomancer, who was a super noncombatant.
A free spirit, an aztec guardian jaguar woman.

The team went in with their Adept going through their brutal beatdown initiation as a distraction, going into a no-holds-barred fighting ring against a trio of giant vatjob trolls, their tank sam doing donuts and showing off her custom bike out in the parking lot to distract the outer sentries, and the backup sam and their face sam going in with their technomancer and spirit ally to go bust the drone out of it's faraday lockup room.

The adept's fight was starting to go south and he was about to get overwhelmed and pulped by the trolls when they got the drone out, the tank-sam started using the bike's grenade laucnher to shell the building and kill the sentries on the top levels, the spirit zapped the face-sam with movement to basically teleport her to the ring and have her laying down hurt with dual SMGs, and the Technomancer had the drone tear it's way up out of the lower levels and start gibbing the assembled gangers there.

The whole event ended with the group setting a ton of fires and the tank-sam dropping HE charges into the gang's armories, the whole building going up in a fireball, the vatjob-trolls dying in fire, and the gang's LT escaping in the chaos, the gang leader dying in the followup motorcycle chase.

And the Tank-Sam found out that one of the gang's sentries who'd been cat-calling and hitting on her while she was showing off her bike had survived and was asking around after her, and eventually they exchanged comm codes. He's a minor 1/3 contact for her now.

The team got a huge spike in public awareness because of their shenanigans, the local Aztlan authorities deemed the explosion a terrorist attack, and the group fled to Houston to lie low for a while.

THE SHAMANISTC TRADITION

A Shaman feels a close and intuitive connection to nature. They feel the heartbeat of the land, even when it has been upturned and transformed into a featureless plascrete parking lot. For them, the world is a living, breathing being, and all other living, breathing beings form components of this greater whole. A Shaman's power comes from their connection to this being.
The Shamanstic tradition is largely transmitted orally, from teacher to apprentice and on and on. Every Shaman has their own way of connecting with the mana sphere, and methods often change according to necessity, circumstances, mental state or whimsy.
Shamans follow the normal rules of magic as set out in SR5, except for the changes listed below. They resist Drain with WIL+CHA.

Shamanistic Totems
Shamans of the 2050s make their first steps into the awakened world by finding their totem, their personal guardian spirit. As such, they receive the Mentor Spirit quality free of charge. Choose a nature totem or refluff another existing one to meet the expectations of the shamanistic tradition (such as flavoring the Firebringer as the Spirit of Raven in the Northwestern tradition, wherein it was a raven who gave the sun's fire to mankind).

Shamanistic Conjuring
Shamans can learn to conjure and banish spirits, but cannot learn to bind them. This means they cannot under any circumstances possess, put Karma into, or otherwise use the Binding skill. Yes, that throws the skill group out of whack, but hey, turning back the clock doesn't work without grinding some gears. And you get a free Mentor Spirit out of the deal, so stop complaining, omae!
Shamans are closely connected to the land, and their practice of conjuring is even moreso. They believe in spiritual Domains, which characterise and divide the land according to type and character. A Shaman can only conjure a spirit whose type corresponds to the Domain he is currently in; this spirit cannot leave its Domain and cannot influence things beyond it.
Domains typically differ in size. A house is a single instance of a Hearth Domain, while the Pacific is a single Ocean Domain. Generally, Domains that are clearly circumscribed beat Domains that are less so: an orchard in the middle of a forest is a Field Domain, not part of the Forest Domain around it. Domains can, however, overlap -- an example would be Seattle (City Domain) in the rain (Fog Domain).
The exact type of spirit that can be conjured depends on the Domain the act of conjuring takes place in. Refer to the list of Domains to see the types of correspondences. A conjured spirit is limited to its domain as mentioned above, and should the conjurer leave this Domain while he has active services with the Domain's spirit, these services are lost as the spirit returns to its natural state. This applies even when the spirit of the new Domain would be of the same type as the Domain the Shaman is leaving. For example, you would lose the service of a Beast spirit when passing from a swamp to a forest, even though the Forest Domain is aligned with Beast spirits as well.

At first, I really wanted to get a grenade launcher full of chem grenades full of barrier foam, so that I could have a BOULDER LAUNCHER.

THen someone pointed out that even though the foam is expanding, it's mass remains unchanged, so while it's quite hard and large, it has very little mass and wouldn't hurt very bad to be hit by one.

Then I really wanted to be a possession shaman so that I could prepare the foam as a vessel and fill it with spirits so I could have intelligent flaming boulders that rolled around and chased people of their own volition, but object vessels can't move normally.

So the best I've got now is using spirits of Man to possess the boulders, so that they can pick up the indestructable concrete spheres with their telekinesis power, and fly around terrorizing people with their innate spells.

Never mind, I think I figured it out; It still had a bugged Street level Lifestyle in there, even though I wanted that gone. It said Street level but was set to bolt hole, for some reason. Once I edited it to be Street level, it worked.

That's incredible, and I wish I had it, but we're in 5E. I'll have to find an equivalent once we're actually in our campaign.

Speaking of which, I think I've FINALLY got my character sheet done the way I want it to be. Chummer hasn't thrown any errors at my face when completing the character, so I don't think I've broken any rules. The only noteworthy thing is that we house ruled electronic firing to be an internal mod and not a barrel mod (because why the fuck does an electronic system replacing the firing pin block you from putting a SILENCER on?!). Can I get some feedback? Last time I post it, I swear.

I usually get my shit together that way, yeah. The last thing I read was billy-bob space trucker, while amazing, not exactly shadowrun centric.
Continuum, NCIS, and random sci-fi are on my radar.
Decking or technology isn't doing it for my brain, though.

Freeze and Barrier foam are great. A little dab of barrier foam can sub for more expensive containment manacles, and you can use chemicals to dissolve the stuff instead of having to have the prisoner cut out of them.

A thermal lance would be incredibly restricted and likely super expensive as it is a very specialized piece of kit.

Alternately they could use thermite burning bars but I feel like they would need a fuckton of those to get through the vault locks and then they'd need something to actually pull the door off.

Actually, the book does not require that only Deltaware be used. The only stipulations are that the difficulty of installing each implant is equivalent to installing Deltaware regardless of implant grade, and that the facility required for the procedure is equivalent to a Delta grade facility.

Problem is, the most difficult part of producing a cyberzombie is not in the installation or the binding ritual, but the spiritual Heroquest the subject would have to undergo, completely solo, before the cybermancy ritual can even begin. If subjects that can pass the Heroquest are so rare, why not cram their bodies with every single piece of Deltaware that exists instead of using cheap Standard or Alphaware?

Into the Shadows. It's a collection of short stories set in 2050 and was written in 1992. So it's 25 years old no matter how cut it.

Just be aware, there's some print errors in the version posted here. A few timelines were duplicated in the middle, so there's a couple years where there's gaps. Still a good read overall. If you find particular things interesting, there's a book for EVERYTHING by now.

Canonically, it's supposed to be a huge event. In the mechanics, it's a big change to how your character is played.

If you don't make initiation a big deal, it loses it's value. It doesn't have to be a multi-session travel across the metaplanes, but it should be something of significant weight to the character, not 'something little'.

Also, 1% of the setting is 'awakened,' but this includes things like ghouls, sasquatches, shapeshifters, Magic 1 Aspected Magicians incapable of doing anything other than harvesting reagents, and so on. Actual, proper mages are a tiny fraction of the Awakened population.

I prefer to hold a solo-session with the player when they initiate, and have a small side-venture planned for it. One of my players had a lot of demons in their past they fought with, so when they initiated I had them fight them as literal demons. Something that represents the growth a character goes through mentally, and the ordeal initiation is.

You can always just write it up to some rolls, but I love the creativity and character development you can get from it. For >>43305762 as an example, you could flavor that as the character having to visit a series of shrines across the metaplanes, resisting whatever challenges (mental and physical) that would be present. More than just rolling something, challenge the player with puzzles or questions that make them ask who they're really playing. That extra strength the character now has in knowing who they are and the kinds of things they can endure, manifests through their will as an astral armor protecting them from possible harm.

This means my players CAN fail their initiations though, and they have. Players are usually disappointed, but excited for trying again.

Most players don't know about the "random crap" prices in Run Faster. That includes most of your random crap needs, from ski masks, multitools, tote bags, and so on.

So, orks and trolls are still goblinizing (and orks are breeding way faster than humans in the wake of depopulation events, like VITAS or the endless tide of natural disasters) so the ork population numbers make perfect sense.

And when a human mates with an elf, the result is almost exclusively another elf, and humans really, really like to bang elves. So the elf population numbers make sense.

And dwarves/trolls are both ~2% of the population apiece, rather than seeing the ork/elf population spikes.

So, yeah. You were full of shit on orks/trolls no longer goblinizing. You were less full of shit on UGE babies no longer being born. And you're double full of shit on the population numbers not making sense in the setting's context.

Well, we already know from Chrome Flesh that dwarves are "in" at the moment. There's probably some sex appeal going on there.

(Also, I wouldn't be surprised if dwarves were biologically similar to humans in terms of fertility rate, but with a stronger emphasize on large family units because of the way the books frame them. Think massive immigrant families, or anyone in a poor Catholic/Muslim nation. Or the entire state of Utah.)

The secret that NeoNET was behind CFD is about to leak and NeoNET might lose its AAA status if it does.

Lofwyr's asshole brother started killing people so Lofwyr rallied a small army of shadowrunners and killed him.

Aztlan won Bagota, even though every major player besides Aztechnology was on Amazonia's side.

Horizon gunned down technomancer rights protesters in Vegas and has kicked PR up to 11 to salvage their public image. They're still seen as "the good megacorp" comparatively, but now less trusted by the public and shadowrunners.

The megacorporations realized that the wireles matrix is too susceptible to script kiddies and push for a global restructuring to the Matrix. New wireless matrix needs a deck to hack again and is monitored big-brother style by the new Grid Overwatch Division, and also might be built on top of the Deep Resonance.

Ghostwalker and Harlequin had a big fight and while everyone was paying attention to that Aztlan invaded the PCC and annexed half of it.

Ares made a bad gun.

The "Ares Excalibur" was promoted as a gun that was going to revolutionize warfare, and Damien Knight himself went out of his way to ensure that the product saw what was - without hyperbole - one of the biggest marketing campaigns in the history of anything, ever. We're talking ad space on the fucking moon, among other things.

Except it turns out that the gun has a fatal malfunction in its targeting system that causes the gun to fucking electrocute you if you try to connect to it via datajack and the overheating on the gun causes the magazine to melt into the gun when you use its automatic firing mode.

Its heavily implied that the catastrophe of the Ares Excalibur was the result of internal conflict and sabotage between Damien Knight and some of his underlings like Vogel. The incident completely fucked over Ares stocks and for a little bit it looked like they might have to sell off several subsidiaries to recuperate the losses, but as of the latest metaplot stuff they're fine financially and the stuff with the Excalibur ruining their image has mostly gone by the wayside of bigger things.

Again, handload some APDS for the - 5 AP, and double-tap the fucker.

Ironically enough, by RAW you cannot double-tap with depleted uranium since it's a APDS-only surprise.

I personally prefer the Terracotta Arms AM-47, but I can see where you're coming from. Also, double-tapping alone is fine with any SA gun, it's just the Bullseye Double-Tap that needs APDS.

Where/how do you get attributes for inanimate objects? I have the idea of a Voodoo summoner who has voodoo dolls to attack.

However, in the possession rules, inanimate objects only gain 1/2 the spirits force in attributes, and it would really be awkward to put a powerful force 6 spirit into a doll, and result with something with straight 4's (assuming the doll has 1's in everything)

That's the one I'm speaking about, the one which up to triples the weapon's base AP.

The Terracotta has a slightly better damage, but the Barret can ignore up to 23 armor with a -5 ap shell.

There's no official way; I believe the intent is that it's equal to the spirit's. Personally If it makes sense, I'll add limits to what an object's stats could be (no super ninja dolls that snap your neck with 7 strength, unfortunately).
