So my experience with Faerun is not extensive. Mostly I've just played a bit of neverwinter nights and neverwinter online and read some of the campaign setting book. I'm lead to believe that spawn of dieties are, for some fetishy reason, not incredibly uncommon, but I'm not sure. I explain to my new players how I like to play my games and that if they try to take advantage of my generosity I'll just shut them down, but I still wanna get my facts straight before I start.

So, questions:
1) Are children of dieties a plot point I should be careful about or would it be a good idea to let my player have it and maybe bring it up later as a story hook or to bite him in the ass

2) In general, is Faerun big on divine influence? Do gods directly effect alot of what happen to people and/or do they appear to people or talk to people?

3) Can you think of anything less obvious I might forget/don't know about how Faerun works that I need to worry about? Assuming my players arent' secretly pricks, am I safe running my game normally and not worry about big wierd lore problems? I know aobut the Spellplague thing at least and screw the Spellplague, but I don't know what else I need to keep in mind.
