Most Infinity mini's aren't knights. They're decorative, and there's not even the slightest bit of fluff to support that kinda thing.

We've already seen old units get stat changes inside N3, so chances are that boat has sailed. It's unlikely to get much of a revamp, and not to the extend of AD.

Which isn't that surprisingly, because at the end of the day it's got about as many grounds for a change as the Squalo does. It's not over or undercosted, it's just overshadowed.

Fair enough. I'd like for them to turn up more often, but at the moment their fluff is basically just 'the knights TAGs'. AD's a pretty major change. Maybe if they had a history of getting used in boarding actions, or first wave planetfall stuff it'd be plausible, but ATM they'd need to rejig the fluff.

Honestly, I just assumed with all the equestrian themed names, they were as close as they were going to come to Polish Winged Hussars. Kinda fits with the knightly cavalry idea.

Because it doesn't fit easily in with a knight team. Which is the key reason people play MO. Same reason you never see a Sorogat link and a Raicho in the same list.

I haven't looked at all of the TAG profiles or anything, but the Raicho looks like a joke. WIP12? BS14? No CCW on one profile? What the hell is this? The MULTI HMG is nice compared to the 90ish pt TAGs, but there are also TAGS in the 78 pt range with comparable stats, HMGs, and other unique benefits (not even counting Toni). This thing needs to drop 10 points. Morat is not that great a rule for a TAG to have unless the rest of your Army has Morat to feed it Regular orders in LoL. What bollocks.

It's a Lizard tag with the Morat rule. That's it. It costs 4 points more for it. Also no CCW because it has a heavy AP pistol which is arguably better than a flat CCW.

The Morat rule is quite good in N3 (can't be isolated? Yikes) but the Raicho is essentially just a bog standard TAG, full stop. It's boring, rather than bad and it's army doesn't do a lot to make it more interesting (unlike Bakunin who can make running a lizard a lot of fun even if itself is boring)

Where the Raicho really falls apart in MAF is that they Sogarat HMG is almost half the cost and 3/4ths the effectiveness while having a 75% chance to get up from unconsciousness. And it can link with the best Lt option in MAF.

Also Toni is being removed from the game so don't count her for balancing.

Scarface is essentially a buffed Gecko that comes with a discount engineer. Seriously, he's 47 points that has to take a 17 point mimetism engineer. Dual MK12s is a slightly better spitfire and the panzerfaust is breddy gud 5/5

The iguana is the coolaid man suit delivery device for a mobile Brigada hiding inside it. Bonus point for it is that when he ejects he can be thrown on top of a building and go prone, making him a gigantic pain in the ass once he's securely in the midfield.

Are you kidding me? The Nomads have an excellent TAG selection. I see them all the time, either in my army, or someone elses. The Szlamandra's goddamn incredible. Geckos are pretty neat as well, and the Iguana's great value.

Seraph has speed, and a greater level of resiliance than your knights. The auxbot also helps in urban environments. It might compliment an order sergeant, or possibly a Magister Knight team well. Hold down the other flank, sort of thing.

I'm surprised you're not using it more with QK. With so many lighter units, and not a whole lot of sneaky advanced deployment stuff, or at least as much as others, I'd have thought that something tough, good value, and speedy, wouldn't have difficulty finding a place.

They're essentially just better orcs. They base model gives up 1 BS to get 1 WIP, a LFL, V:courage and still manages to cost a point less.

The ORC gets an assault hacking device but the MB has +1 WIP and can fairy dust herself.

The ORC can have a HMG Lt option which is it's only real advantage over the MB, otherwise the MB is generally just slightly better.

And better looking.

Actually, I think there is a chance of redesign. What units they specifically changed in N3 are in the core book (imperial agents etc.), HS ans C:P (including Seraph) units have a kind of "place holder" feel to them, and many may change before and in re-release of HS.

Note that I'm not claiming so radical changes as super jump or AD, but there are many ways to make Seraph more interesting as a unit. Martial art? Stealth on a TAG, would work well with it close range specs. With MA2 and EXP Seraph would hit hilariously hard.

And even small changes wouldn't go amiss (given that the price stays in check).Chain colt, Blitzen or Heavy pistol could make it more effective at close/long range.

I wouldn't put NEW stuff off the table, but the precedent for N2 to N3 changed very, very little about units, and even then, mostly on the order of minor points tweaks, or adding new options for N3 stuff.

Although MA:2 would be amazing. Maybe with assault as well? Fuck, go the whole hog and get Berserk as well. Penitent engine up in this bitch.

Dedicated is a bit much. Even Magisters have guns. An EXP CCW is already a pretty brutal tool, and cheap as well. And HMGs aren't that rare in any list, but regular TAGs still retain their value.

I tend to use my AD types on their own, so that's worth a look. Personally, I'd also consider something that gives you a bit more agility. A drone, or something with infiltrate, mech deployment, etc. Give yourself some options and projection. Not sure how feasible that'll be with everything else, though. Specialists are something of a weakness with MO, however. They've got strong fighters, but their specialist game is pretty clunky at the best of times.

It works great! Mix in a few inferior Infiltrating grunts, if they get past those they hit your line of chasseur, if they get past that you have a K-9 eat them. Van Zant cripples them. Maverick and Foxtrot push buttons. Zouave to troll midfield harder. Loup Garou to fuck with enemy Ariadna.

Is talking about the chasseur in the vanilla Ariadna box, which is unique to the box for some awful reason.

Full French is excellent, very flavorful and fun in objective games. French in Vanilla are almost mandatory.

So I have a quick question for anyone paying attention to this thread:

Is this game an easy game to get into? I've never fully invested myself into a war game before, and I'm drawn to this because of the aesthetic and the small unit count, therefore lower price (I'd hope).

I've been watching the game being played on the youtube and it actually looks very fun, but it seems somewhat complicated compared to games workshop games.

What do you guys think? Sorry to come in totally new to this, I come from a board/card game and rpg background...

Compared to other wargames Infinity is a bit more advanced; rules are rather robust and cover a lot of situations and there's a lot of stuff to keep track of. The Action-Reaction system is just tip of the iceberg.
There's a lot of rules you're going to forget the first few games.

You don't need many models, so that's a big plus, but assembling and painting them is rather fiddly. If you want to paint them yourself, be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. Also you need a lot of terrain, so it's best to find some sort of club or LFGS that hosts Infinity games and has it.

In general wargames take a lot more time and investment than any other tabletops (only RPGs beat them in time investment and LARPS in everything else).

Low army cost can be a bit of a trap; it's easy to think "well, I have one army and it was so cheap... maybe I could assemble another one" and then you end up with 4 armies and 1000pts in each one. So just watch yourself.

The game isn't too complex, unless you want to memorize the various gear interaction, though you won't need to, as the (free) army builder includes all the basic rules for the gear you've got when you print the list.

It's way cheaper to get into than any other big name miniature game. I've spent less than $200 USD total, for a locally competitive variety in one faction.

Just as importantly, there's not the same level of toxicity between players that you see in other games, as there's no single "unbeatable list", and your strategy decisions matter far more.

And you can find papercraft terrain in the right scale that looks good. If you decide you like the game, you could always build your own terrain too, like cranefag does. I don't have any pictures of his larger builds, but I'm sure if you lurk a bit you'll see whatever new building he's doing.

I definitely won't have a problem getting more than one army because I intend on buying very little as I am a fucking brokefag. Do you know of any good resources on understanding what to buy to start out? I'd like to try to invest in a very basic but playable and semi-personal feeling army right off the bat so I don't have to buy a ton of figures before I come to a "solid" place.

Same here! I wanted something radically different from my IG gunline too.

Data Sphere has some guides for factions and sectorals. And then you could just look at what each faction does best and try to go from there. Also there's some resources in the OP.

The way I see it, there is three areas to work with, rules, minis and terrain. Rules are free, but can be hard to learn with one sitting, current are much better than N2 (previous edition), though. Focus on the core book, the Human Spehere and Campaign book are still in old format and will be rewritten in near future. Some rules are still pretty central to game, so you can't completely avoid them.

Pinning is recommended with some parts, so invest in pinvice. Syanoacrylat or other super glue to glue them. With metal minis the paint will never hold as well as with spray can-primed plastic models, but good primed and varnished models will last well enough. Use good lightning, brushes and paints. I use vallejo model colors.

Don't be too hasty with terrain. In time, if you continue the hobby, it will accumulate in sizable quantities, but you need something now. Papercraft is easy, cheap and transportable solution, though it may look odd and repetitive. But it will let you fill a table with terrain with couple of hours. One of each color variety of IKUBE should work:

It's definitely one of those games where the blind leading the blind can create a few situations that are either unrulesful, or create the impression that certain tactics or bits of gear are way better than they are.

It's one of those easy to learn, hard to master games. Most of the tactics aren't just in taking certain combinations, but in the usage. This makes it a lot less gamey than stuff like Warmachine or 40k, but it also means that the tactics are a bit more opaque for a raw newbie. That does change pretty rapidly though.

Well, the takeaway is that Infinity list construction tends to be very flexible compared to everything else. You could certainly look through the army list advice threads on the forums, you'll osmose out a good chunk of information there.

Did you have any plans for a given faction? Choose based on fluff and models, most armies can play in most ways. Variation's more about depth of selection. Aridana has a huge variety of camo figures. The Nomads have a very easy time finding hacking suppot options. But almost everyone has a few camo options, and almost everyone has lots of hacker and at least a handful of repeater/support options.

Off the top of my head, at 300 points, you'll want to spend as much of your SWC as possible. and try to get 10 regular orders. Slightly less is alright though. You'll want a few good long range shooters, some specialists (medic, doctor, hacker, engineer, FO, etc), and ideally a few subversive mechanisms like camo, AD, thermoptic, impersonate, etc. And some degree of reactivity, like infiltrate, AD, high speed, climbing plus, etc, to move quickly to trouble spots.

If you were interesting in solid basics, the Operation Icestorm box has a great PanO and Nomad starter box for about 120 AUD. About 150 points of guys, some terrain, dice and starter rules and scenarios, and expands out to 300 very easily. Get into the game with a mate, split the armies to make it even chaper.

It's worth mentioning that you can get 95% of this stuff done with just some clippers and glue. The rest is handy, but not vital. Another one might be accelerant. Makes glue dry instantly. Very helpful for those tricky poses with limited surface area for the glue to work.

A lot of LGSs have a little hobby pack in plastic, that has 1 of everything. Glue, clippers, file, scalpel, etc. Less than $50. The other thing to remember is that barring the glue, that'll last you for a very long time, everything lasts. I'm still using the same file and clippers I bought about 6 years ago.

PanO's got some pretty neat stuff. They have a good selection of heavy infantry and TAGs (the big robots), and they've got a few nonstandard remotes as well. They tend to have slightly better shooting, but slightly worse willpower than the other armies. They've also got the Knights. Which are a fun take on heavy infantry.

Played in a tournament this weekend.
My MVP was by far the Hospitaller. Killing the most important targets and basically grabbing me all my VPs.

Last turn of the last game I used my last 3 orders to run him straight into 3-4 AROs every order. He came out on top everytime and with the last order he flipped the objective and survived a TR HMG to the back.

Flipping that objective secured me at 6th place and not dead last, while making sure my opponent dropped from 3rd to 5th place.

Even my opponent was impressed.
What I gathered from the tourny was to be more aggressive with my Knights, and that Multi Rifles are scary as fuck.

It can get expensive fast.
It isn't a expensive as 40k (expensive and need a lot), fantasy (need a lot of shit) or warmachine (expensive models and big difference in lists) but it isn't cheap either.
For a beginner is it reasonable cheap to have a working army.
Ruleswise most of elemantary rules are easy enough to understand but yyou'll be confused by some advanced rules interaction.
ARO and zone of control, melee, engage and shooting into combat, hacking (uunless you find the piss-easy tool), some gears...
But go for it if you like the aesthetic, what else would you spend the money on kids and rent?

Which ones are cheaper? FEARLESS? Malifaux? Battletech certainly isn't, nor Void, or any of the 'clix games I've been involved in. Definitely not Flames of War, or Bolt Action. Firestorm Armada isn't bad, but Dropzone Commander's pretty goddamn expensive to get forces together. Definitely not Confrontation.

X-Wing isn't very expensive, I guess.

Certainly one of them. Malifaux I think takes the prize in terms of modern stuff. A single starter set and bam, that's a full sized army for about $50. Of course it kinda has the game size going for it, but it's not bad as far as convinience is concerned.

I really liked FEARLESS back in the day, though. Literally used to turn up at the LGS on fearless day, pick 3 guys off the shelves, stick them onto the bases and go. Rules inside the blisters and everything.

Kinda. If we're talking tournament legal lists, in Xwing you need hard copies of each card a DM upgrade along with duplicates if you took it more than once. That means for an optimal X wing, you might have to buy a tie interceptor or a Scum ship that you'll never use just to get the upgrades that come in that pack.

5 is overkill. You're reducing your actual striking power and order levels too much. Mirage 5 and a single Paracommando would work well though. Group 2's a bit light on orders, and the whole list could do with at least more more specialists.

HMGs are solid. And you've got some decent close up types. BS is a pretty nice addition to the Paracommandos loadouts, but the HMG gives it a degree of power and reliability that's hard to beat.

You've got 3 highly deployable specialists, with a backup. You should be alright specialist wise provided you don't get too badly routed.
Concur with anon's advice to shift the PC. They're definitely units that die in the reactive turn, and maximising their initial attack run is a necessity.

Otherwise you have range of minor Systems like MERCS, Bushido, SAGA, Relic, Batman.
I just mentioned that it can get expensive fast, especially if you want to use a single minature from a boxset (that damn Chasseur) or play WYSIWYG.

I was trying to give a balanced view.
The Basic rules are in fact easy enough but some rule interaction can be confusing and if you have no quicksheet on Hand many different things will be annoying.
Lastly it can be expensive. Some list are easy to make playable, starter + big unit pack, some other require starter, 2 Blister and one model from a big unit pack.

It's fine if you want to have one Domaru as your Lt. but the second Domaru is not a very optimal option. You can have a Kempeitai with Chain of Command (that is a specialist) and use your Lt. very aggressively with no Loss of Lt. consequences.

How does combined orders with AD troopers work?
If I use a combined order I take from the order pool to bring in both troopers simultaneusly they lose the orders that they were supposed to walk in with. Correct ir false?

Can I place the AD template over another mini or can there be no obstruction to which models count aswell.

Really wish hmgs had the old range bands. I'd love to get more use out of the hmg ekdromoi due to how cool the model is.

But yeah, either drop an assault hacker somewhere where he can get into trouble, or a garuda with a bsg that can land a ways away, and use its 6-4 move and mimetism to move into position to force my opponent to make some hard calls.

I like it a lot! This is actually a list I would want to see Sun Tze in. Put the Yanhuo in a pool with the Kuang Shi so he can suck up their Orders, then put all of your Regular weenies and Specialists in a 10 man with Sun and get extra mileage out of thfun things you can do when coordinating a bunch of Combi Rifle specialists (Move Move, Move Push Button, Suppressive Fire) or you can just feed Sun, as he is a nice fighter himself. The Zuyong is nice, mind you, just a suggestion. Shaolin are also nice to pair with Kuang Shi to throw Smoke for their Impetuous Phase so the Kuang Shi are covered for their Impetuous Order.

Yes, for most parts I prefer single jumps (but both my armies have pseudo 2 W AD).
If you have the support hacking up (+3 PH) you can risk dropping one guy behind a suppressing dude forcing him to turn around only to drop a second a second sucker behind him.

I'm reasonably certain I've run that list before. I'd make one of the Chasseurs an FO, but it's otherwise solid. Lots of dakka and camo, some reactivity, good orders, concealed LT.

You could get an HMG Paracommando instead of that Spetsnaz as well, give yoiurself some cavalry, but he should be useful either way.

Looks good. Austere. A hair more highlighting and the occasional detail in a slightly different colour and it'll look brutal.

Maybe something a little extra on the gun. Looks like it's a pewter gun you're meant to hang up over the mantlepiece.

Well, quite a lot of it looks like it should be some sort of metal. Or hypothetically some sort of fancy heat resistant ceramic. Maybe the magazine, exposed ammo, and upper and lower could be a different colour? At least in part. Going with existing recoiless rifle colouration, the same green or red you went with for the body would work. At the moment though, like the rest of the figure, it's a bit homogeneous, great highlights aside.

Sort of. IIRC, inking is more about the cracks and crevases. Washing is more of an overall hue shift, as a component of layering, in addition to the crack buisness.

Of course, a very precise wash could JUST be applied to the cracks, etc.

The difference between a Wash, an Ink, and a Highlight, is that a Wash is designed to flow into the recesses of the model and provide Shadow. A Highlight picks out details: you draw thing lines of brighter colour towards the edges of the model. Inking the model is somewhere in between: it ties together the Wash, Base color, and Highlight by applying a thin layer of similarly-colored pigment to tie together the whole.

I hope this helps you guys, I tend to be a better painter than tactician.

Onto a question I have for you guys: how are Motorcycle troops used on the tabletop? I don't understand the advantage of them over, say, a similarly-statted infantryman, considering they take up a larger footprint and I would think they would be harder to get cover for.

Motorcycle troops are really fast (8-6), and I think the actual cycle has 1 STR. Not sure, though, if the cycle being taken down to 0 STR results in placing the dismount model, or if it just kills it. If it does gets to dismount, then you get an extra wound out of the deal, I guess.

Motorcycle troops are ungodly fast and tend to have Mimetism or ODDs to make them even harder to tag.

They can also dismount if they want to take cover in which case you do have an infantryman.

Generally the point of a Motorcycle is to get that weapon you want right the hell up the board in the least actions possible. An Aragato can get an Assault Hacking Device or Boarding Shotgun in people's faces with less chances for reactions and mimitism to help protect it.

Penthesilea is a guided 'Fuck you' missile in turn. A little smoke support or careful moment and she can devour several people alive in melee by delivering her monofiliment blade to faces.

It does seem like it'd really benefit from just a +1 ARM to widen the gap between it and the Janissary. Gluing a Nasmat to it isn't a bad idea, but you're really want an Ackbar Doctor, and since the only one is a Janissary that's a big pointsink. Still, a Ghulam Doctor hanging back on support might still be useful.

Actually, come to think, are there *any* Ackbar Doctor's other than the Janissary? Army5 isn't showing any others in Haqqislam at least.

Pretty much this. From what I recall, you've got your standard Haqqi troops who are more based around agility, and the fiddy waps which are straight up stealth assassins.

The point of the suit isn't so much to be an easy kill, but to be the ultimate threat deterrence. People tend to not want to cause problems when there's this metal titan walking around with a big ass gun.

Also you've got the whole "we let our boss die, but instead of committing sudoku put us where all the danger is or can find us"

Bigger LOS in reaction. Easier to slice the pie targeting them but harder to actually keep out of LOS as well.

ARM 8 vs ARM 7 in cover is the difference between needing a 6 and a 7 to save against rifles. 65% chance to save versus 70% can make a big difference, believe it or not.

they're extremely maneuverable as an army and have lowish damage weapons on paper but in reality have plenty of B4 viral and B5 spitfires. Add in most units in a fielded army having either zero vis smoke or a pseudo second wound and you have a kinda dick ass challenge to fight against.

the biggest weakness of Tohaa is not having someone who understands them play them. They arent super forgiving

Efficiently. They are not super fast, they just move more people with 1 order. Lots of brutal close range shooting, but nothing super tough. Typically very cheap and well optimized units. Buckets of fun, especially Tohaa vs. Tohaa fights, which are pretty much a series of wartime atrocities. This is due to Tohaa being the army most vulnerable to fire, but also having access to am lot of fire.

Some tanks had that problem. It was solved by slapping concrete blocks to their backs, not giving them tails.

Yeah, you can see it on the Firefly. And IIRC, the 76mm T-34s have that chunk underneath the barrel specifically as a counterweight to the breach, so the axis of balance is in fact on the turret joint.

But as anon said, they're bipedal. Their centre of gravity'll shift during routine walking motions, and the fact that the mechanical tail is capable of adapting them is presumably of benefit.

Either that, or there's a scaley in charge of TAG modernisation.

I've had a similar idea.
Originally I planned to paint up one of my Geckos as Megas, but now I think I want one very feminine and one very masculine, with the black-looking Moderator as the pilot. But I don't really know how to paint it to look like an OG Nigga Bot. Best idea was black with gold shit in places, including the Mk12 body, maybe with some gold flames in places. But I'm still open to ideas.

You could take some inspiration from street racing cars as well. Put some bright blue or green neon streaks or glows from the various glowy buttons/sensor eyes, etc. You might also take some inspiration from gang colours. There's some really nice, bright, aggressive colours sets in the street gangs out there. Even painting it vaguely crip/blood like, or something with some gold in it like a Latin Kings themed gecko. Black is one thing, but street is pretty easy. And use a few rough brushstrikes as well. Like the paint's been spraypainted or loosly brushed on with a mop, like the pirate colours from FTL.

My original plan was to use Alguacil Hacker from the Corregidor starter for a Kiva stand-in, but then I fell more and more in love with the tacky pink idea. The Yaogat are a great link team candidate, the Sorogat's the avatar of hard to kill HI, and the Rasyat's a great backline attacker. There's always the Raicho as well if you want a TAG.

Dat's are great for what I tend to call picket duties. Napoleonic style. Harrasement, attrition, bogging down any attacks, and efficiently responding with impet orders. You also have smoke, which makes killing them a fairly order intensive process, and they're still quite cheap, although taking some Gaki or Preta is also a good idea for that sort of job. Dat's are cheap enough that you don't mind them dying, but also dangerous enough that they can't be ignored.

Zerat's are great. More expensive, but mimetism and infiltrate add a lot of utility to their typical mission profiles. Vanguard are cheap for a reason.

Only big thing is that the Moira link is present in every list since they are her favourites and what drew her to Bakunin.

Moiras are a bit more fragile, but are fantastic midrange shooters if they have the chance to let their ODD and good stats work. Riot Grrls are better in close up fights and urban combat, where the Moiras are vunerable.

If she likes the Moiras, then Kusanagi or a Sin Eater might interest her as well. Custodiers are outstanding figures as well, and the Tsyklons and even regular remotes fit into just about any list.

Drones are another option.
It seems there is not much else in Bakunin that warrants a thought.
The Prowlers seem like a fun mini to play with. Are theyworth the price of admission?

REMs are a good choice if you already have a hacker, as they benefit even when you have little on the enemy side to hack and often carry repeaters. Lunokhod and Meteor look like a lot of fun in particular.

Prowlers are great, particularly for Bakunin. Infiltraton, camo, and awesome weapon options make them an excellent backup for Zeros. SWC costs are a bit high considering it's a jumped up zero in a lot of respects, but that ability to deploy fowards helps a lot. I've done a lot of damage with the spitfire version. And the other two aren't bad either if you've already got some midfielders.

What did she like about the Moiras?

I think they well. It's agile, shooty, and resiliant. Your link might be order sergeants instaed of Magisters, but it's definitely got some appeal. And SJ means that bouncing over an obstacle and getting straight into CC just became a whole lot more feasible.

The big draw is using lots of knights, in link teams. Otherwise you're running what might as well be an NCA army. LI link team, a big big stompy HI, sort of affair.
