Here's a splat for the rpg Ars Magica game that covers Slavic magic. It's based on medieval and pagan Slavic ideas about magic, and it's mostly based around rituals and sacrifices. It's statted for Ars Magica ofc, but its easy to adapt to anything.

The last bit about born magic-users being weaker than taught ones is interesting, the opposite is usually the case in Western traditions.

This is all from a medival pov, after Christianization slavic magical traditions faded away into folklore.

Except you can regularly find ads for chernoknizhniks in Russian papers, even the 'proper' ones. And that's in cities, in the country many, many traditions are still somewhat practiced, especially the ones having to do with healing.

By folklore I really meat folk traditions. Yes there are still "wise women" who will read you horoscope, they aren't (generally) worshippers of the old pagan gods and their traditions have little in common with pagan practise, either. But yes, not completely lost.

Those are generally relegated to the same niche as various astrologers and 'spiritual counselors' in the west, and usually draw from western traditions, such as tarot or rune casting.

As did I. I don't claim there are unbroken lines of succession, but many of the mentioned practices are quite alive if one knows where to look. Shit, I personally can book you a proper znakhor, and I'm a city dweller with a passing interest in the matter.

none of the PCs chose to play as one and there werent many NPCs, but here's a list of abilities so far, most are unique.

>able to read the ancient language usually known instinctively by psychics, which has over 12,000 characters, noone is sure how they worked it out.

>able to predict the future from complex geometrical patterns in fires, but only if the fire is in a oil drum.

>bard style perform abilities using accordians, this penalises non slavs instead.

>the ability to squat in extradimensional spaces.

>the ability to create Frankenstinian monsters.

>total control over the length of their facial hair.

As my interactions with Slavs are fairly limited, I'd say that there's a sudden influx of not-so-attractive yet strangely fuckable drunkards that'll go on an adventure with you because they have nothing better to do, keep your back till the very end, and then wake up in the morning to top a test that gave most of my co-students serious problems.

The opposite, tho I suspect you and I mean the opposite by those terms. Historically, a Wizard is someone like Merlin, who has power innately as a birthright. A Sorceror by contrast is someone without natural gift, who works magic by studying rituals and communing with spirits (Angels and demons, generally). In the Western tradition, anyone born to magic is more powerful than someone who merely studies it, but for the pagan Slavs this was the other way round.

Like Kebab Removal is something South Slavs only do. Ukrainians exorcise spirits by drinking with them. Pollacks are more versed in the old Latin magic, because they're Catholic. And so on.
