Could someone explain Formations to me?

I'm making a Blood Angels list with the Baal Strike Force detachment (Red Thirst: +1 Initiative on the charge, 4 Elite slots) and considering Angel's Fury Spearhead Force formation (3 ten-man Tactical squads in 3 Stormraven gunships, make a single re-rollable reserve roll for the entire formation starting on turn 1, friendly models that arrive from deep-strike within 12" do not scatter and can charge the turn they arrive).

Do models in the Angel's Fury Spearhead benefit from the Red Thirst rule in the Baal Strike Force detachment?

I'd swap at least one predator for a vindicator myself. Firing it at targets near your death company may cause your balls to retract, but it's such a good tank.

How are you expecting to get the scout squads into CC to use those powerfists? Seems a bit of a waste of points.

Nope, afraid not. The only time formation bonuses spread across are in detachments made up of multiple formations (often called decurions after the first one) where an overall bonus applies to everything in the detachment, and blood angels don't have one of those.

It's weird, I'd been ignoring orks as they sounded painful to play, but the recent tau silliness has made me consider starting orks, just in a "I don't give a fuck no mo" way. Screw considering what I'd need to buy to make my space marines able to hold their own, or finally give in and buying the stuff I don't really like but would need for a war convocation, just go all out Fun and buy the units I like the look of. Bonus points to orks for possible countertrolling:

I don't think they are a waste of points, in fact, these scouts for 165 points averages 4.25 kills on the turn in which they charge against MEQ. In comparison, 140 points of DC averages 3.88 kills. Given how troops are required, I merely just took the most point-efficient troop choice according to what I can tell.

For stats:
165 pts scout squad:
4.25 kills on charge
.86 kills at 12" (bolt pistol)

.28 kills on overwatch
2.3 kills in average melee

Tactical squad with 10 marines, for 140 points:
2.2 kills on charge, 1.1 kills at 12" (bolt pistol)
2.2 kills at 12" (bolter)
1.1 kills at 24" (bolter)

.55 kill on overwatch
.83 kills in average melee

Neat. I played a guard player one time that did the same thing, but with the amount of lasguns on the base being equal to the number it represents. At 3 he did the little pyramid shape soldiers do to not get sand on their rifles with a helmet on the top.

Well you can simply neglect to swoop and use the normal 12" movement until you need to boost away to claim an objective in the late game or possibly to shoot down an enemy flier.

Give it a shield gen and positional relay, maybe 2 shield drones for if it falls to help stay alive later.

Sure, but you lose out on jetpack movement and if taken in the hunter cadre he can run+shoot along with move+jetpack, so they're pretty mobile from the beginning. In small games it might be pretty good. If there were non-commander coldstar squads he could fly with it'd be awesome.

His Tau dex was so balanced (and it was as long as you don't abuse Riptides) that they've not even bothered to change it.

To be honest, I don't think it's Tau players in general that are WAAC faggots. Just WAAC faggots love to flock to the current best dex, or if not possible, then they run the stupidest shit their current dex has.

I've been a Tau player since 4th, and outside of being useless near the end of 5th and having to sub to Orks, have played only Tau.

I have one Riptide, but i've never ever fielded more than one, sometimes i don't even run it. I plan to try these new formations out, but I generally reel myself in if i think something is too fucking OP. Like 2-4 Riptides. I already pretty much know that Ghostkeels will have to be limited if I want to have any fucking fun with them, because a full infiltration cadre or whatever with ANYTHING else is just going to break games.

We do exist, I just don't know what %, since I stopped going to a FLGS ages ago because I fucking hate neckbeards

That's nothing. You can get 9 in a Battleforged army. Sure, you have no market lights, but who cares.

You can actually get 25 Riptides in a Battleforged army if you use a double FOC and Farsight Enclave.

At least, you could in 6th.

9 in two main FOC. So 18.
3 in two ally FOC's.
1 extra as a HQ in the ally FOC.

Shame Super Heavies have made them kinda pointless, as even x3 Riptides (two with Stim Inject) in 1000 pointer can be #rekt by an army picking a FoW which is legal too.

Question. x3 Riptides (2 with Stim Inject and BS2 Overwatch upgrade and 1 with Interceptor and Skyfire) vs x3 Wraithknights.

He gets a bit aspie about rules vs models at times though. Like Ezekiel's force sword got made 2 handed in his 6th ed DA codex because the official model has him holding it 2 handed. In all other regards it was just a (master crafted) force sword.

Other than that I can't fault the guy, the previous codex was fun and fluffy even if it did get outclassed quickly, but you can be sure it wouldn't have been if he wrote the rest.

Lizardmen book he did was fantastic. Yes, he nerfed the best stuff in it (Slann can't get Loremaster, so they didn't have 100% chance to get the two spells to cast +4T on the Temple Guard bunker), but he fixed this by making the Bastildon pretty good. Troglodon was shit, despite being a good model. Everything was balanced. Lots of stuff was good, some stuff was bad. He had made mistakes as well, like he didn't give Terradons the ability to join other Terradons (Flying units) if it has a character on it (So Tiktakto became useless for example).

Dwarf book he did it again. They weren't great before his codex and he made them fair, but most of all, fun. Lots of good stuff there, like the Flamethrower cannon. I still don't like the idea that Hammerers are bodyguards, especially when they have worse armour than Ironbreakers.

Dark Angels weren't bad or amazing, but they were bland. But their flyers were good (as far as I can remember) and was fluffy.

He writes fun, fluffy and internally balanced codexes. He isn't perfect by any means, but he is the least insane of the codex writers. Look at Space Wolves. Who allowed a new special character (who is good on TT as well), a new mount, a new Dreadnought type, TWO new flyers (for a faction who like Drop Pods) and good weapons.

Or Eldar, they nerfed Wave Serps, but made Scatterbikes insane. WK's and so on.

Blood Angels codex is just unbelievably bad.

It's just terrible.

As with most armies that got megaboosted by their decurion/formations, just use a combined arms detachment if you're worried about being cheesy. It's also a much better option when you're just starting out as you don't have to buy up a full hunter cadre's worth.

Anyway, a 500 point force to start you off might be

Yeah I forgot I could leave my DD's and Kans (Deff Dreads are in units of 3 as per the Dread Mob rules). It sucks when two in front of the mob get immobilized though because they are damn big bodies to walk around.

I thought keeping them in the KFF bubble was safer, I was wrong. That barge thingy in the corner has some giant cannon on it. I also couldve deployed my two units of lootas in the trees for cover and better vantage since he deployed first.

I just played my 5th game yesterday and got ruined by some Ultramarines. They had some level 3 psyker character in the unit with 4 "centurions" (I believe they are called) and they all had gloves and just rerolled everything. Then he dropped a "terminator"(?) right behind my larger squad of lootas, ruined em, and proceeded to rape my Kans with the one terminator. It was much worse than going against the Necrons.

Depends what you're after.
30k gives you the biggest Codex for any faction in the game with 5 sub-lists and gorillions of options for everything. Let's start with 5 Troops choices, bolt on all-Veteran and all-Terminator options to make 7, and then spin that into all Flier, all Jump, all Pod etc.
30k gives you EC-exclusive options like Power Spears, Sonic Shriekers and bonuses to challenges. It gives you Palatine Blades, Phoenix Terminators and based Eidolon. It also lets you field *motherfucking Fulgrim* as a legit option.

40k lets you field massed robotic dinosaurs as you pull 50% of a working list from Forge World anyway. It allows you to really get into that bitter mindset of petty vengeance and spite at the world that has so clearly forgotten you.

I am working on a new detachment now since the GW I moved closer to wont let me play the Dread Mob in their tournaments and I have had four players decline to play me because of the Forgeworld rules. I cucked myself with the list and models I wanted, not knowing their would be a stigma for FW later on. The first GW I went to fucking loved my list but was more fluffy veteran players.

Gonna put some boyz in trukks and a burna in a wagon with some more lootas. Basically every ork ever *yawn*

So, the whole idea with this list is to try and siege the fuck out of the enemy by hopefully bringing comparable long-ranged firepower whilst having shrouded on ALL of my units (including the knight, not that he'll be able to make much use of it.) to hopefully whittle them down.

The Plague bearers will hopefully get buffed up very quickly with so much long ranged firepower so, depending on who im facing, they could be buffed up to S5 T5 and FnP 4++ by my second turn which will make them pretty hard to dislodge.

What do you guys think?

Terminators for Loyalists come in 5-man squads (or at least three, I play CSMs), not just one. Especially since you say here >>43302063 that it had two Flame templates, I think what you're referring to is a Dreadnought, which is generally more killy than a Terminator is.

But yeah, games can go one way or the other, depending on the skill level of the player, the list, dice rolls, and the terrain itself. I've lost games I should have had in the bag, and I've stomped armies that I had no right to beat. Such is 40K.

A proper green tide would mean the Orks in danger of being shot to shit would have a 5++ and a 5+ FnP so they are actually quite durable compared to most other hordes.

With normal squads of Ork boyz they usually have fuck all save as there's never any point giving them buff units.

Cause I did this week and it was kinda amazing.
He was nice, smelled good and wasen't a fatlord. (He had an applejack shirt, so it was obviously a brony.

Detachment and formation are the same thing. A combined arms detachment (CAD) is what you're used to, 1 HQ, 2 troop and then fill out the rest. A formation is simply "Take X" and maybe get a bonus.
Currently you can take any amount of formations or detachments, or ignore this and use the "unbound" method and take anything you want from any book you want, but no one does this.

It essentially replaces the force organization chart. You're allowed, now, to run an army of whatever models you want with no restrictions, called "Unbound" - so if you follow the standard 1 HQ 2 Troops etc., you get a few minor bonuses.

With each new codex released since this, they've included their own variant on the force org. Sometimes just rearranging the slots, and providing a different bonus, or it can get more involved - see next.

Formations are a set assembly of units - rather than just "troops" or "elites", it'll tell you to take specific models in specific quantities, and you get more bonuses for using them as such - can be things like free upgrades, or additional special rules. Well there is a Waaagh! Ghazghkull Dreadmob but it's seen as inferior to the Forge World one.

It also isn't as flexible and requires you to take two Orkanauts which aren't as good as the amount of Deff Dreads, Killa Kans or Mek Gunz you could be taking.

The Orkanauts also cost as much as a Stompa in terms of money and are no where near as powerful.

I mean the assassin dataslate lets you just run imperial assassins, so you could have a good 15 of them running around as a legal 2k points army.

Drop pods are a must if you want your dead to melee shit, also if you want a killy unit for you're captain get some hour guard. However as the GW model is Ultras only convert some Sternguard.

Sternguard in a pod and Grav Centurion are very shooty units which draw fire which will get some of your squishier models get to objectives

3rd Edition Revised. Unfortunately, 85% of the aforementioned was useless chaff in competitive play, the same with a lot of the fun rules from the time, and when GW made things simpler for 4th they cut out the rules nobody used.

Fun note: You used to get your sarge for free in a Cult Marine squad equal to your god's number. So, 7 plague marines, 9 Thousand Sons, etc.

Up on top of the castle, anon. Note that this isn't his whole army - there's at least another six Pegasus knights, because I remember Derpy Hooves was leading one and Rainbow Dash was leading the other.

Guy was a bro about it, though - made sure the TOs were okay with it months before and carefully went through what everything was before every game, and made sure to use the unit names when they moved. He also gave out alcoholic "party punch" through the event.

Yeah they don't leave terra without the emperor and they fight daemon incursions and shit in his temple when that happens (old fluff has it being a constant battle whereas new doesn't touch on it too much).

You could maybe make a chapter of notcustodes saying they were given all the custodes gear they don't use anymore, such as hover rhinos and the like. That's pretty damn snowflakey though.

Not sure about that as I don't have a lot of points spare, buffing a greater daemon / prince would be cool, but I don't think it'd be worth much as most of the buffs are defensive. Also keeping the units within 6" of Epidermis would be hard whereas with 2 20 man blobs, as long as a single daemon from them is within 2" of him the whole squad will get the buffs.

Could it work if a couple of custodes got sucked into the warp during one of these massive daemon battles ? We all know how much tzeentch loves warp fuckery.
They reappear on the far fringes of the galaxy, on the other side of the eye of terror.
They flip out and feel they have failed their oath to the empror. They have a mourning period, but then collects their shit together and decide to haul ass towards terra, crusading daemons in the eye of terror on the way.
Would this be too much fluff rape ?

I don't want to start a shitstorm with this but where are the women in the imperium?

I wanted an army that represented normal humans fighting for the good of humanity so I started imperial guard. So far so good but I noticed during the long painting sessions that they were all male with no (first party) female options for any of the models in my army.
It got even worse when I went looking for something to kit-bash an inquisitor and failed to find any human female models at all barring the sisters (who are discounted because being female is their gimmick).

Why are there no female model options but loads for guys standing in slightly different positions?
I don't expect mixed guardsman units but special characters like psykers and inquisitors seem to have every option available to them but to be female. So what gives /tg/?

Also does anyone have any advice on the where to get some female proxies for psykers/inquisitors and maybe more?

Theres a few reasons females don't really exist in 40k.
A. the first is the economics, when the large majority of the consumer base is male (and probably neckbeards at that) why make females, they just won't sell as well.
B. This game was formed back awhile ago, before military even considered integrating units so the culture of females fighting probably didn't exist.
C. 3rd party sites sell conversion bits if you desperately want females in your army

Points cost is a big one, if you put them in a rhino they are not going to be focus fired on and not able to assault easily

If you put them in either a Land Raider Redeemer or Crusader they you get to use them effectively but it cost 500~ points not including the Captain

They were S-class at the start of the year, but a lot of stuff that's come out since has countered them pretty hard. Eldar, the new Tau, and Space Wolves Khorne Daemonkin's ability to Dog Star actually good characters have hit us hard. Still low A-class, well above most of the herd, but not OP by most measures. Being able to beat a Necron list is sort of the gateway into Good Army territory.

Is the Contingent Headquarters a formation you can take outside the Hunter Contingent? It doesn't get any special rules but it is "list to the right" like all the other datasheets where it says they're just datasheets and that you can take any of them like normal formations outside the main detachment if you're so inclined.

Seems like it should let you take a suitstar as its own self-contained formation and stick it on to any list you want - or just an extra Commander and his bro.

If you wanna run a Master of the Horde detatchment you should check out Siege of Vracks 2nd edtion in the OP. It's got a formation that upgrades Master of the Horde roll from 5+ to 2+ and gives them outflank when they come back.

The only drawback is that you have to take 4 compulsory troops, all of which have to be infantry platoons, which means a minimum of 180 models if you want all of them to be able to come back from the dead.

1. Women are not dismissed cause they're women. Cadia is said to be 50% female. Since the average life span for a regular IG is like 11 hours or some shit, if you can hold a gun and shoot, you're good to fucking go.

2. Women aren't represented in IG as the cost of making a new mould for them would be disproportionate to how many extra sales they'll get.

3. Women are more represented in Eldar armies (I think their sprues have female torsos and heads, first Solitaire was a woman etc). Elves in WHFB/AoS have lots of female options (in fact, they even changed old art in the Dark Elf codex to make one of the basic spearmen into a woman, by giving a more protruding breastplate. Eldar women are obviously mentioned more in novels)

4. Old female models did exist. Commissar Barbie was a thing at some point.

Essentially, women are seen as cheesecake models, but since GW has pulled away from lewdness (thou the recent Tau novels mentioned nudity on both Tau and DE at points) there is no need to do it.

Cause even if I DID do a full power ranking, somebody would go "ACHTUALLY DATS WRONG BECAUSE REASONS".

It was merely a point that the guy said "Tau are 2nd best book, wtf?" and he's kinda right, but there are still good non-Tau and Eldar dexs out there if you're willing to go "A codex is good if it has a list which can consistently win matches", which SM/DA/SW can do. BA/Nid/DE/Ork (and maybe GK) are unlikely to win even with mono-lists against the top-tier sides.

If you want to get into 40k, pick up a battleforce and a rulebook and talk to the locals about who plays what. Space Marines are traiditional to start with, since they use so much of the rules, but if another army catches your eye and it isn't Dark Eldar or Harlequins, I'd give it a whirl instead.

Yeah I really have a huge problem with those models above everything. The silhouette looks nice to me but I can't get over the "oh fucking god the rider is fucking a limbless gimp in the ass WTF" factor.

As for the heavies, I was just the opposite; I loved the Dunecrawler at first and the Kastellan had to grow on me, but it did a bit.

Anyway overall great model range though.

But it isn't broken, because it costs a lot and its D is one-use only and relies on markerlights. I reckon it's a great choice for any army, but it isn't the -only- choice, and you're not hamstringing yourself by not taking it.

Compared to the Wraithknight (which a lot of people did when the rules first leaked), it seems weak, but that's because the Wraithknight is balls-to-the-wall broken, not because the Stormsurge is subpar. That and we didn't know about the D missiles then.

After 40k peaked my interest last year I started watching batreps that made no sense to me. Then I browsed the models and read up on some lore for each army that picked my interest. I chose orkz cuz dey da bes'.

I found a torrent for the rule book (and ork and tyranid codex) to help make sense of the batreps while I browsed through Ebay lots.

Then once I got the lot I found some models in it that I really liked and just asked around on the internet how I could table the most of that model in a 1250 list since that is what the few people I knew played at.

Once I got the orders placed for the models I needed for the list that weren't in the lot I started repainting the poorly painted lot I had won.

I did not just go to a GW and buy a battleforce and a codex and say yup this is good. I did buy a few of the models I needed there as well as all my paints and actual codex.

At this point it's almost like the problem isn't how broken the OP armies are but how awful the bad ones are. Orks and Blood Angels look downright pathetic now.

In order to get the most out of the missiles you need to expend a lot of marker lights.

You need a lot of marker lights to make the missiles reliable which means no one else in the army can use them, and if you want to neuter the D missile do what you should do anyway and kill the marker lights first.

Space Wolves still have a great build. When you can dish out 7 (or 10 if outnumbered, which isn't hard even with 3 TW bodyguards with 3++, you also give them +1A as well.. or is it +1S, I forget) S7 AP2 Rending Hits and be 2+/3++ T6 it gets fucking silly. If you want to go further you can give him IWND, when you have 4 Wounds, it's pretty sick.

Funny thing is? Lamenters have better Relics than BA do. BA's Relics are so bad it blows my fucking mind. To make it worse, they probably have the best melee weapon in HH alongside World Eaters.

Tau actually have a lot of internal balance problems, but they have good options in every category and all their good options also have great models and are fun to play. I also wouldn't say stealth suits are bad anymore, at least if you take them in formations. T3 isn't great, but usually a 2+ cover or a 3+ armor (or just JSJ out of LoS) make them decent for their cost. The issue before was that they took slots that you'd need for Crisis suits or Riptides; now you just use formations for everything so that's moot.

Maybe reduce Black Knights to only 5 each (- 80), and change 1 White Scars squad to Melta-gun focus (-10pts), remove Ravenwing Command Squad Champs (-5pts) and find something else minor to toss in a Thunderfire Gun (+100pts). New relics not added in, since they were just revealed.
I could also drop Ravenwing all together and add Biker Librarian, Bike Command and some Attack Bikes.

Most of the time you're not getting shot at by stuff that's AP3 or AP4, and when you are you're in cover. There's not a lot of things that compromise your saves that aren't a Feldrake, and Feldrakes get really, really fucked up by all the AA/interceptor that you can pile into a Tau army.

And if you really, really want the backup invuln save the Guardian drone is just better. Would you rather have a 6++ (or 5++ if you're crazy/brave enough to use Breachers) for every model or a 4++ that goes away as soon as it fails?

I'd say get some Repressors for 5 Retributors and then drive them somewhere so you can shoot out of the 4 fire-ports (you'll only SS if you move and shoot, but the whole point is to get into a good spot and wait until something gets in range).

As for best allies? You'll need a faction that can bring AA. SoB used to be able to take out flyers with Retributors with 4 Heavy Bolters + Rending AoF. Since that's gone, good fucking luck.

So, AdMech or Guard are fluffy additions.

Guard come with Wyverns which add Ignores Cover stuff to your force, which you need. Main problem is SoB can't take any of the fun LoW from IG's list and Allies can't take LoW iirc. You can take Titans. But, if you check carefully, you can take Marauder Bombers as well as SoB. Which is awesome (Destroyer variant has 6 auto-cannons on front, 2 on each wing and some other bollocks).

Funnily enough, there is no mention of the Marauder Colossus. Which is a shame.

So, AdMech adds good AA and nice infantry, but I'd go with Guard as they have good AA, good Ignores Cover, decent infantry and good tanks.

High ranking etherals seem to live a long time, but they don't really give a reason for it. I don't remember how old Aun'va is, but he's pretty darn old.

Technically, Shadowsun is as old as Farsight, but she's been held in cryostasis for hundreds of years, so her biological age isn't very high.

I really wish there was more in the current book (and just in general) about the insidiousness of the Ethereal caste. There's maybe two or three examples I can think of; Farsight's enclaves chugging along just fine without them and his general disillusionment in the sometimes unnecessary sacrifices his soldiers had to make, the "communication helmets" they used to enslave the Vespid, and generic references to the Imperium wondering how the Ethereal caste control works without actually giving anything else.

Compared to imperial fluff - where you can't seem to go more than a paragraph or two before mention of the corrupt, decaying, wretched political structure and the cheapness of human life - and it's a goddamn utopia. The Tau books really do feel like the propaganda stories they describe in Tau holovids.

My point is the guy was like "hur dur they live till they're 100!!! Not 40-50!" but didn't give any sources to back this. My entire point was Farsight and Space Pope are 'special'. So, until he or somebody else provides sources that say that 40 isn't "old age" and all Tau live to around 100 then he's poop-posting.

In one of the BL novels, there is a 10/11 year old as a Fire Warrior. So that's obviously considered "old enough" to be a soldier, so 10/11 must be the age of sexual maturity. One of the Tau in the same book is mentioned to have 4 kids or something, but he wasn't given an age. So it's likely 10/11 is 'adulthood' and 15+ is when you have kids. Doesn't the codex ALSO say that they don't have the longevity of humans, but that only makes them more determined to live a "brief but bright life", as they don't live very long, so they strive to make it all the better while they are.

If they do live to 100ish, then why was that mentioned? As I said, where is of the proofs.

There's very, very little fluff in the new Tau book. It's a little disappointing actually. There's barely even any color scheme examples outside T'au, Vior'la and Sa'cea. They do give very good examples of how each sept has variant camouflage uniforms for different environments, which is a great touch for coming up with a customized paint scheme that's still fluffy to a specific world. I think I'm gonna use that for a Sa'cea paint scheme that's more black/gray than black/blue-gray for urban combat on worlds that don't all have blue buildings like they do back home.

Almost all of the fluff is in Kauyon, and there's almost no mention of Farsight at all - it does read almost like it was censored by the water caste and a few things slipped through. I expect we're gonna be seeing a lot more of him with the new Damocles book - Kauyon is explicitly set up for a sequel, and it makes perfect sense for there to also be a Mont'ka book.

tl;dr if you already have the 6th edition books just get the campaign books

You should be a lot more worried about multiple Ghostkeel units than multiple Riptide units. They're a lot more points efficient and if you don't have ignore cover they're going to be comically durable. Shit, even if you do have ignore cover unless you have multiple units of it they can literally hand-wave at you and make a unit snap-fire at them that turn, and since each model can do it once the unit gets to do it three times per game.

There are a couple of clues that this would be the case; there's a patrol that's sent out by Shadowsun to a place where she expects an Imperium ship to exit warpspace after analysing traffic patterns in the hopes of collecting scientific data. They managed to observe a ship and record data, but after hurrying back to send the data to the Ethereals they mysteriously vanish. It's not mentioned but I got the strong implication that they somehow got lost in the warp - very Event Horizon-y.

The White Scars also turned the planet they're fighting on in Kauyon (can't remember the name) into a bit of a psychic/electromagnetic hellstorm for a while to catch the Tau off guard (since they don't know how to deal with "mind-science"). I can't imagine the forces of Chaos didn't notice that.

What? No they don't. Of anything in the new Tau book they need markerlight support least of all. They get +1 BS for having three in a unit, and another +1 BS if you take them in the Optimised Stealth Cadre - and you WILL take them in the Optimised Stealth Cadre.

Also, with three attacks each and AP2 they can be surprising in melee, especially with stim injectors. They're not gonna win against large units designed to kill MCs, but they'll hold their own against most infantry assault units just fine.

A lone Ghostkeel has the weaknesses you mention, but a unit taken in the formation that literally everyone is going to use them in? Not so much. That said, Wraithknights and Imperial Knights are probably still gonna fuck 'em up pretty good. A Knight-Acheron should be particularly good with its Hellstorm AP3 template - which means none of their defenses work - plus extra speedy run moves mean they've only got one turn to kill it with shooting before it flames them and then catches them in melee.

There's a fair bit of new art, but there is a lot of reused art as well. I was really disappointed that they used the same suit-comparison line from the 6th edition book that was there to show off the size of the Riptide without updating it with the Ghostkeel and Stormsurge. You'd think that would be a no-brainer.

There is some new writing and new art for all the units, since so many of them got new models. As far as rules go, the only unit entries that are different that I've seen are Fire Warriors (who now have different rules for Strike Teams and Breacher Teams and a fancy new drone), Crisis Battlesuits and Crisis Bodyguards. The Crisis changes have gotten largely overshadowed, but they're potentially a big deal for people that really liked running Farsight Bomb. Normal suits are 1-9 instead of 1-3, and Bodyguards are just an elites choice (they trying to get rid of "No Force Org") but are also 1-9 and don't even require you to take a Commander/Farsight in a CAD. Wargear is basically the same except that the new prototype guns from 6th are now standard issue in 7th even if they're not included in the kits; you can spam 18" S7 AP4 Assault 3 on all your Crisis dudes if you so wish, or make a unit with two 18" S4 AP5 Large Blast Ignore Cover Barrage shots for every suit in there (although, honestly, you might as well just use flamers).

Three in a unit is 420pts. In games of 2000pts and lower that's a large investment to make for a relatively small fire-output. Further it is unwieldy. The unit has to stay in coherency, which reduces its effectiveness and the adaptability multiple single-keels would have.

Then we have the challenges of the formation. It gives you some great benefits like shooting rear armor no matter the facing. But it comes at a steep investment and requires careful positioning. Stealth Suits are not strong units, there are better units more capable of anti-infantry firepower without the risk inherent to their short range. Again the same issue exists as a three model ghost keel unit due to multiple squads requiring coherency in order to benefit from their bonuses.

For armies like the Imperial Guard and Renegades and Heretics this isn't a problem. They've so many models there's not a fuck to be given about getting somewhere. But for the Tau that live and breath hit-and-fade this is potentially a major issue.

Solid points, and a good reason for why a double OSC list might not work well as an all-comers list. I quite like that while it is very good it's not completely broken because I kind of want to actually play it, and that's not something you can really do with massive Riptide spam (or shit like Seer Council + Wraith spam, etc.).

Personally, want I'm looking to build is Retaliation Cadre + OSC, since they complement each other extremely well. The stealth suits act as homing beacons for the Retaliation Cadre, the OSC is your big scary threat, the Riptide is versatile, the Broadsides are the real threat, and the Crisis suits give decent units that act well for scoring objectives. The question is just where to start with collecting, since you kind of need both of them for either of them to work.

Definitely. MC's suffer from difficult terrain, and drones are dumb. The crash into walls from time to time.

I play on terrain heavy maps. (To mitigate sit-and-shoot bullshit) So it's going to be very interesting seeing how the GKeel fares.

So, the biggest hindrance from terrain is going to be fitting them in coherency while still getting decent jetpack assault moves away from your target. If you can't toe-in-cover for a 2+ then you need to keep at least 18"-24" away so that enemies can't move within 12" and shoot you in the same turn. As long as you keep outside 12" range you always get a 2+ cover save, which is pretty baller.

One thing that might really fuck them up, now that I think about movement stuff, is Eldar Warp Spiders. Their jump moves make them hilariously mobile, and monofilimant wounding versus initiative is going to rape them. If for whatever reason you don't have enough countermeasures to use against them and only have a 4+ then you're gonna have a bad time, although using some of the drones for ablative wounds might help out.

Also, you can have one Siege Drill and one Siege Claw? Being bale to #rekt non-vehicles and vehicles is pretty good.

Might as well take one claw and one drill. That way you can do Armourbane against tanks and destroy those fortifications/buildings easier. But Armourbane will help you end AV14's easier. S10 AP2 is obviously enough to end then anyway, but having it is nice, especially since you don't lose anything (bar points).

Also, 6 attacks in charge is great (4+1+1).

It'll still hit. Malcador Infernus is great for this. With the Poison 2+ upgrade you'll remove the Drones in one go.

Obviously a good Tau player will make sure you can't target a nearby unit to cover the GK and obviously Infernus is a LoW and obviously Infernus Template is not normal.

Oh, right, for some reason I had it backwards in my head. I was thinking that because templates couldn't snap shoot I couldn't force them to snap shoot, but the reality is that I can force them to snap shoot which means they can't fire at all.

Man, the countermeasures are going to really drive some players crazy. Deciding whether it's worth wasting a unit's shooting just to burn through a countermeasure instead of shooting at something else sounds mighty stressful. I foresee a lot of complaining about this regardless of effectiveness simply because of how badly a lot of autistic wargamers react to mind games.

+1 from charging, +1 from having two melee weapons. It doesn't say the melee weapons bonus is counted, just says you lose an attack if you remove them. So, going by the BRB rules, it's an extra attack from having two melee weapons.

Sicarian is a hybrid of Predator and Land Raider and uses a unique chassis. Fellblade is kind of the same as the Baneblade, but it's different enough that I'm not sure I'd call it the same chassis. Also missing some of the fuckheug stuff like Spartans and Gorgons, and probably at least a few others.

Yeah, there's a fair few things FW made that are unique snowflakes or a line of unique snowflakes. They made this new transport vehicle for Solar Auxilia in HH but I'm pretty sure none of them remain in 40k, and there's also a bunch of artillery carriages and whatnot. There's also the 30k Admech tanks and transports which look nothing like anything else in the Imperium (the transports are super cool, too, in my opinion). Just go to the Forgeworld site and you should be able to find everything pretty easily.

I hope they update Farsigh's rules in the Mont'ka book. The main reason you took him was because he let you take huge bodyguard teams. Without that he's just an undergunned commander who'se good at melee (jn an army where you never want to go into melee). At least his warlord trait is nice if you planned on deepstriking some suits, but probably not worth it getting him just for that (you can just get a unit with locator beacon and do the same job).

So, going RAW (and they're experimental as well) then it'll still be +1 for having two melee weapons.

Just Dante's +1A isn't assumed to be in his stat profile already. Same applies here.

Farsight himself is still pretty important if you want to run a Farsight bomb even though you technically don't need to anymore. You still need a way to remove scattering when you're dropping ten suits and twenty drones via deep strike, and Stealth suits + homing beacon cost almost as much as O'Shovah does anyway.

He's kind of like a Space Marine Captain. Decent WS/BS, S5 T4, W4, and I5 with four attacks at AP2. Honestly if you compare him to what a Space Marine with those stats, plus non-scattering deep strike and a -1S Plasma Gun that doesn't Get Hot and he's fairly priced. He's just really weird as a Tau commander because he doesn't have a melee-focused unit to lead into battle, and he's not powerful enough to stand alone as a melee monster specialist. If Mont'ka lets him bring buddies that are at least competent at punching people then he'll be really cool for that.

Neurons are tough to kill, but they cannot match the killing potential of marines, who aren't exactly brittle themselves, and generally come in far larger numbers, not to mention the fact that they pretty much ignore anything leadership related.

But you won't get a lot of people calling marines OP, because 90% of the players are marines, and due to the larger number of players, the amount of bad players will naturally be higher, thus you'll have a lot of people claiming marines are bad.
