His name was HUMUNGUS. And yes, it was capitalized, even in speech. HUMUNGUS was a (semi-)intelligent iron golem, originally created by a group of wizards who wanted to help themselves and their fellows be less...fragile. In concept it worked well - they even incorporated the Manuals of Health, Exercise and Action into his construction so he would be able to provide the bonuses to them during training. In practice, well...HUMUNGUS saw a month of use - long enough for the bonuses to kick in - then sat in storage for a year before being sold to the city guard as a training instructor. He actually flourished there for a while, before a merc company paid a handsome coin for him, after which he passed through a few more hands - and gained a few more upgrades and training routines - before one enterprising young noble decided to buy his contract and use him as a bodyguard and personal trainer.
Several adventures, much wealth and plenty of upgrades later, HUMUNGUS was retired as a fully-recognized and legally documented Citizen of the Realm, and opened his own training academy for would-be adventurers, sellswords and bodybuilders.
