-Instead of being taken prisoner and stripped of their gear they are executed.
-Their souls, body and gear were taken by rebels and the PCs reanimated to help the rebels or at least harm the evil overlord's forces.
-The rebels keep their soul jars to allow the PCs to be more suicidal in their attacks.
