On other sites, I've heard people asking for a "JRPG-style system" and never hear them go in depth on what that means. So I guess I'd like to ask you all what do you think would make a pen and paper/table top RPG JRPG-esque?
To me, I think it'd be less about the system and more about the style of campaign and GM (though I'd lean towards something with quick, streamlined combat to replicate the pace of a console rpg.). Anyway, there's two things that that would fit doing a JRPG style game very well.
Lots of media. Basically having a lot of music for any sitch and (anime style) art for most of the NPCs and monsters. Maybe an emphasis on trying to make combat descriptions exciting to fit the flashy combat.
Basically, to get a JRPG feeling of being flashy, especially in battles.
Not using a sandbox. That's more of a Western RPG thing, even if there's major exceptions like Metal Max. Basically, I think a GM for such a game would/should either focus on the characters and build the whole adventure around them or have a fairly straightforward "railroaded" campaign.
So yeah, anything to add? To shit post? Ever try to make your campaign like a JRPGs or try to draw inspiration from them?
