Many people believe that trolls live alone and in isolation because they are filthy, diseased, or disgusting creatures. This is actually the exact opposite of the truth.

The reason why trolls live alone is because they FEAR disease. Disease and fever is a troll killer. Remember that most symptoms of disease are not caused by the illness itself but by the body's reaction. As such, trolls are incredibly wary of disease in all its forms. Fever? The troll will be constantly blistered the heat and may even catch on fire. Coughing fit? The troll will break several ribs during its coughing. Warts? Huge, green, break on and it grows back in seconds. This is also why trolls are afraid of cancer of any kind, and merely seeing a tumor it enough to scare them. As such, adventurers some times carry tumors as a necklace to scare away trolls.

Using the above information; the smartest and most clever adventurers not only fight trolls with fire and acid, but weapons smeared with feces or other filth can sicken a troll faster and deal more damage to him then any blade could, its literally turning his own body and incredible regeneration against him.
