Halp /tg/. I have realized that I cannot for the life of me actually create intresting characters. I create intresting backgrounds, or I create very loyally archetypical characters that go out of their way to be archetypical, but don't actually ever become characters at all. They lack personality and the qualities of a protagonist, and most of them would be much better as NPCs.
I realize much of this is due to me being so used to worldbuilding and being a DM over being a player (I play a lot, but majority of it is as the DM), but I just can't get better. My characters are very boring, even to me, but I can't really come up wtih anything better. I just can't grasp the concept of a good, strong personality. This is making it very hard for me to actually play as a player, because I can't really feel engaged with shitty NPC PCs I make. Goals and ambitions are particularly hard, but my characters are lacking as a whole. I just can't get out of the mindset of creating secondary characters who are there for the setdressing instead of actual, active, personality-driven characters.
What do I do to get better?
