You actually can do that…with the Vinter Raelthorne alt. history cards they gave out at a PG invitational.
It sort of undermines the point of the war-game though. May as well just make a 6mm mass army game then, since the rules make it clear you are generally fighting a spotlight of a larger battle.

I think a BioWare RPG in line with the more strategic gameplay of KotOR would be a good way to do it. I'd also kill for an MMO, since I'd love to be able to RP in it, although I have no idea how they'd manage Warcasters/Warlocks. Maybe a pseudo-Ranger/Hunter class with a greater emphasis on controlling your "pet."

Does no one like Tactics? I have it and enjoy it, although I wish production wouldn't be so ridiculously slow. Thankfully, it was a gift, so I don't have to be mad about buying an incomplete game.

Core of tactics is flawed. You can't add tiny grids to simulate tabletop and use pre-turn resource allocation as a mechanic. Videogames should streamline the play, not add more on top of it. They should've just made a valkyria chronicle clone and been done with it.

Just make a Mordheim-esque game with IKRPG stuff. You run a merc company, you hire mercs, you customize them, then send them into turn-based skirmishes with the traditional combat rules we all know and love.

It probably helps that I've only ever really played multiplayer with the friend that bought it for me. As far as story missions go, I've only done the tutorial. Didn't go much further because the unfinished cutscenes were super silly, and the performance issues are even worse in the campaign than multiplayer.

Go to Vermintide route.
Don't try to copy the tabletop game instead just make use of the Setting.
So either co-op with arcane gunmage, a guy commanding troops, jack marshall, Alchemist, and sword fighter set in a merc Company with great scenary and battles or just go full on telltale shit.

That's the thing, they're playing entirely within page 5. That's how Warmachine works, and it's even in there - you push everything as hard as you can, and go balls-out. If your opponent can't deal with it, that's his problem.

I'd actually argue with that, Lucant loves 35 because he gets his basic core game and his opponents don't have shit to do about it.

That being said, no reason to max Obstructors and Recips with only a single foundry. Better off going Clockwork Angels, a second set of Optifex, and an ADO. Angels are a pain in the ass to remove with Lucant and give him some spot removal, second set of Optifex give him better repair and avoid some OoA issues, and ADO is a cheap zone holder and occasional arc node for fucking up other arc nodes when it applies. You can also do min Reductors and Optifex, but I find Reductors generally too much at 35.

Lets him get Positive Charge out when he has to spread out a little bit, mostly.

ADOs more about being a cheap 1 point solo that's very good at holding a zone. It's hard to kill at range(being 15/14 with 5 boxes).

Also, Dissolution Bolt is one of those two cost spells that randomly ends up being very good, if your opponent is dependent on being able to channel spells.

super tanky, and using the legionares to screen helps keep BB alive as long as possible before using feat, plus he helps them stay alive, thanks to thags aura. The list is very slow so its very reactive, but ravagore animus on bb gun helps bring them to you.

So, current favorite IKRPG character in my group is a remarkably depressing one in the sense that his character is a total downer. This surprises me, as I am not overly fond of depressing characters but this guy was fun.

He's a fairly standard Skilled Iosan Cutthroat/Mage Hunter dual-wielding murdermachine, but what differentiated him was his personality, which was both oddly hilarious and sad at the same time.

He's about 40-odd years old, and is technically an EX-Mage Hunter in terms of being part of the Retribution, having served as a killer of mages for over two decades without seeing home, hiring himself out as an assassin like Eyriss and basically going full vengeance mode on the human race, very much the Retribution stereotype.
After about two decades and a single spectacularly failed kill that was SUPPOSED to basically be a high-profile suicide mission for him and his whole cell after they were discovered (a whole "blaze of glory thing"), he ended up miraculously surviving after everyone else in his cell died along with his target after their epic fight.
Standing amid the corpses of his friends of the last two decades and one more dead mage he had a brief epiphany.

>"What the hell am I even DOING with my life?"

He realized that everyone in his life he cared about had died, and his target had been taken down...and it was a meaningless gesture, and all they'd succeeded in was ending a few more increasingly scarce Iosan lives for one more dead human mage of which there were more being born every single day. Nothing he'd done in his life mattered in any real way or made a difference.

So he bails and uses the suicide mission to fake his own death and basically after completely loosing faith tried to make a life for himself outside of an endless (and pointless) crusade, only to discover his primary (and only) skillset basically was murdering dudes, specifically mages, and so went back to being a mage hunter-for-hire, only this time for the PC mercenary group.

The hilarious part is that while he still works with the mercenary company as a mage killer and still genuinely believes that the human race's mages are killing Scryah on some level (thought doubts are recently popping up), he's actually gotten pretty fond of the mercenary group he's with after a few years, and even works with human arcanists because in his current mindset trying to kill all human mages is rather like wishing to fly and trying to achieve it by flapping your arms real hard; it's not going to happen and even trying makes you look kinda silly when someone else looks at it.

He's surprisingly because of his weirdly bitter sense of humor so far in the group and his whole "lapse of faith" situation; he's like a suicide bomber who's lived way past his supposed expiration date and is now sorta wondering if maybe his previous career choice maybe wasn't the wisest one.

Either drop the Ironclad or pony up for a Stormwall. Siege couldn't give two flying fucks about slow durdly melee 'jacks, he wants big guns. His entire gameplan is to blow the enemy heavy hitters off the field on his feat turn.
In a pinch you could grab a Defender for the same points as the Centurion, if you're really determined to deny reality and not just get a Stormwall.

IFs are only Arm17 under Shield Wall, a pow10 kills them slightly less than half the time, which is more reliable than it sounds because the stormpod doesn't need to roll to hit.

The Stormpod also provides you with a place-able target point of Ryan's Mage Storm, so you can tag a ton of them with an auto-hitting POW12.

Stormwall also gives you a pair of Covering Fire templates, and Iron Fangs can't get the Shield Wall bonus while they're moving, so that dicks them right the fuck up.

I play against cygnar a lot. Ive never been afraid of the pod for this reason.

Pods are more useful for sniping out important shit like the eiryss or gorman that is waaaay to close to your colossal than killing rando wgi

pow 12 is not effective against armor 22. Ryan can be dealt with, but easier said than done.

You have to spread out to prevent the covering fire templates from fucking you. Eventually the storm wall will be forced to start playing aggressive if youve played it right.

Both of those are very effective. Covering fire fucks over melee troops hard. IFP can only do shit in melee. Covering Fire stops you from getting into melee, and therefore, doing jack shit with your IFP.

I've really liked seeing advances in Skorne technology over the years though. The Incindus and Mammoth Siege Cannons really highlight how Skorne pragmatism wins out even over the revered Hoksune code.

He's clearly new and from his calling it a Titan he's a refugee from 40k. It's a general breakdown, not a tactica. Personally, I play mercs and have never used one, only played against them. I would argue that it's better than a Centurion and an Ironclad (and many other Cygnar jack combinations), but I dislike Cygnar jacks in general.

If you use mechanics, good on you, my local Khador players do not. I think they're great, but they always talk about things getting one rounded or lightning arcs and blasts and whatnot. I only see them in Conquest lists. If someone's packing repair units, you have to finish things off, no half assing or your work is undone. That said, you have to bring a lot of guns to take a Khador jack from full to zero in a turn.

The pods DO give you some element of control, along with the covering fire templates they can be a pain in the ass for single wound infantry. Khador has ways around it (wish I could zypher my weaponmasters), but it's something he needs to know about.

It's not an auto-win button and it's not invincible, sometimes Khador torpedoes it with a Spriggan and that's that. Sometimes people Full Tilt it across the table like an idiot and I eat it alive with Hammerdorfs.

Look into reach weapons to cover more area, and anything that can let you move out of activation or move more to tie things up. Defender from Knight or Military Officer, Beat Back from Mighty, Side Step from Skilled, Acrobatics from Duelist, Pursuit form Bounty Hunter, even Dodger from Thief. Get to people so they have to deal with you or risk a free strike, free strikes from Mighty characters will kill or cripple.

There hasn't been a ranges class that can use covering fire to my knowledge, and other control effects are in the realm of Gifted characters.

Butcher vs Asphyxious.

Just for that moment when Asphyxious is monologing about the impotence of mortals and then Butcher just goes berserk and ruins him. Then Asphy goes full blown coward in the face of a mortal even he finds frightening.

Also, Goreshade vs Makeda vs Vyros. Where Goreshade is trying to kill Scyrah but Makedas army marches on the city and fucks it all up. Then Makeda inadvertently runs across Goreshade and Vyros fighting. This sparks a giant 3 way duel which ends in Goreshade escaping.

On that note, Goreshade vs Ossyan. Where Goreshade, in his escape, gets confronted by Ossyan who duels him, wins and clears the name of his house.

Wat. Bethaynes problem is she's an infantry support caster in the warbeast faction. Also her feat is pretty much the same as Rahns but doesn't have his battle mages to pull the enemy army apart.

All of her support spells work on friendly models, so she's nice with minions but before the croak raiders nothing in minions really had good synergie with legion. But in the end whenever you get to ask yourself "Do I take Bethayne to support my decent infantry? Or do I take any of my other casters and support my awesome beasts?" she just looses out pretty much all the time

Other than having to proxy the GC and Hut for the foreseeable future, looks good. You might get smashed by a heavy blast damage army with no stone (i.e. menoth or merc colossal builds) but that's why you have your second list.

The key for this list for me is how many of Jarl's upkeeps/feat are friendly versus friendly faction-if TacSep is friendly, that's a sweet use of Nyss. I don't have the rules in front of me though.

This is bad, you should feel bad, and you will lose somewhere between turns 2 and 3.

However, I would suggest you try it, knowing that you will get stomped, and learn from 1st hand experience of just how autistic page5 can be.

Then you can build another list which might do better.

I play Menoth and I don't mind seeing a stormwall either. The problem with the stormwall is that it's one single big important target. Yes it has guns and pods, but it can be outrun, outfought, outgunned, all in all outclassed.

It's a concentration of force and because of its cost, it paints a big target. It can get a lot of work done, sure, but it has specific uses. Most Menoth, Skorne, and Troll lists are going to trivially dismantle a Stormwall and at that point, you're out 20 points. Hell, Skorne can make it a 20 point paperweight for a turn or two with a 2 point solo.

Is it a durable scenario piece that does well vs single wound infantry and can crack armor at range or in melee? Absolutely. But sometimes, you'd be better off with a Stormclad and some other stuff.

Barathrum is ass and costs 10 points. River raiders cost 2 points for 3. Scrap thralls are completely useless so don't bother with them. Successful Terminus lists have Combine, Darragh and Madelyn in there somewhere. Bile thralls are very good for the auto hits as your caster doesn't help there at all (outside of his puny malediction aura). If you want to spam all the infantry with Terminus you could try the sepulcher, it's pretty swanky. I get that you're just meming around but put some effort into it.

I agree, I would go a step further in saying its the absolute best jack in cygnar if you were wanting to take a pair of jacks neither of which have an arc node.

Too many people take them for the wrong reason.

Early to mid game mechanics are there to make sure your jacks make it to the fight, they stop chip damage from shooting. They keep your jacks from getting softened up for things that wouldn't normally threaten them.They can be pretty handy late game too once all the real threats are dead and the number of activations have dwindled.

The pods are great. They are easily the thing that puts the storm wall over the top. Block of charge lanes, gives your storm wall a charge target if needed (basically charge models around corners or forests), snipe solos, contest objectives, snipe UAs, set up attacks into high def units, I think it can score as well?

The one thing the pod can't do is all of that shit at once.

If all the junior warcasters and warlocks became big-boy warnouns, what feats would they have?
I'll start: Gaston Crosse would have some serious movement shenanigan feat. Something like all friendlies in his control area gain bushwack and can reform 3 inches ignoring free strikes at end of turn.

Zaadesh seems like his shtick is going to be some kind of gang ability (probably Field Marshall: Gang Fighter or Field Marshall: Gang) and then out of activation movement. Probably Focus 6 and frontline-y, and his fluff also mentions that his army works like a well oiled machine. So maybe some sort of super-Warpath ability like this:

"While in Zaadesh's control area, enemy models cannot issue or be given orders. A copy of Space Marine except you play as Caine / Stryker / Haley / Nemo going deep into Cryx territory to retrieve a MacGuffin.

Your "squad" is your Jacks.

Caine has 2 Hunters, can potentially upgrade one to Ace
Stryker has an Ironclad and a Lancer, can upgrade Ironclad to Ol Rowdy
Haley has a Lancer and a Defender, can upgrade to Thorn
Nemo has a Stormclad and a Centurion, can upgrade one of them to Thunderhead

Caine fights ninja-style with dual pistols and jacks are ranged support to keep him safe or kill hard targets
Stryker with Quicksilver / Disruptor Pistol, most balanced gameplay

So, just in case I may know for my Iron Kingdoms campaign, who is Blighterghast? I've been skimming through the Circle army book, and apparently he's a dragon that I wasn't aware of (the only others I know of are Toruk, Everblight, and the Devourer Wurm [I'm assuming, based on the name]).

So, what's Blighterghast's deal? And what's this coalition between dragons to take down Toruk?

He's the second strongest dragon (though he's now tied with Everblight) and the de facto "leader" of the dragon alliance. He's alone in Wyrmwall Mountains and keeps a keen on Cryx in case his old man wakes up. He's a reasonable asshole at best.

You do not know very much about the Iron Kingdoms, do you?

Okay, first off, the Devourer Wurm isn't a dragon. It is a primordial deity embodying the chaotic, predatory, and destructive aspects of nature.

Blighterghast is a dragon and one of, if not the, strongest living dragons (not counting Toruk, of course). All dragons are the spawn of Toruk. Toruk created them all by carving off pieces of his athanc (the nigh-indestructible mystical heart stone at the core of every dragon's being) in order to create a bunch of entities to serve him. Surprising absolutely no one, they promptly said "Fuck you, old man." Toruk began hunting them in order to kill them and take back the pieces of his athanc, but a load of the remaining dragons formed a coalition and fought him. While Toruk was more than a match for any of them, he wasn't able to take on all of them and they forced him from the mainland. Blighterghast was the de facto leader of the coalition.

I like to think I know a decent amount, but I definitely have my gaps (the dragons and Skorne particularly, but there are spots all around, of course).

And yeah, I should mention that I'm aware the Devourer Wurm isn't really a "dragon" in the standard sense of IK, but I figured that having "wurm" in its name implied that it is a dragon on some level.

The Devourer Wurm is also called the Beast of All Shapes. The Wurm's physical form is basically a giant, constantly changing mass of claws, teeth, and various animal parts.

Here's a description from Devastation: "The shifting deity seemed physical and ethereal at once, its form morphing as it rampaged across the battlefield. Yawning mouths and savage eyes formed and collapsed while the storm coalesced into trampling hooves and lacerating claws. A group of wolf riders was crushed beneath the tread of the Wurm, and a dire troll fitted with a slugger was swallowed whole by a maw ringed with fangs. The ground crumpled in the deity’s wake. Lightning reached down from the sky to lash the battlements, and a deluge of rain fell upon those left alive to witness the glory of the Wurm.

The game used to be a dungeons and dragons alternative setting. Way back before the warmachine or hordes miniature games were a thing. So there was a lot of background story about wild animals, magic and the likes, before they figured making a game that features everyones favourite robots, essentially steampunk dreadnoughts, would be a good business move.

Kind of a big if.
The best use of these guys is to have them charge some solos on the flanks, kill it (which usually needs boosting), create an incubus and put the animus on itself. Now the enemy has to send something over there to kill it so it won't do that again next turn or use a decent amount of shooting to kill it.
The big issue is that relies mostly on the enemy list being constructed in a certain way to function, against a lot of lists that thing is just dead weight.
And at 4 points you can just take a Raek, which is better as both a solo hunter and a being a generally annoying roadblock.

This is fucking wrong too.

The big difference is the original CoC were extremely secretive even to their own members. If you were new to the cult or weren't heavily invested the cult appeared to be little more than a fraternity like the free masons. If you had any talent with mechanika chances were you were in the cult, knew some one that was in the cult, or had heard about the cult.

The cult didn't turn every one into robots back then either, the process was extremely difficult and was saved only for those who were higher ups in the church. I assume that they had perfected this technology by the time CoC was released as a faction inside the wargame.

I don't see how you're extrapolating the old d20 stuff into "Hordes fluff came first." In fact, if anything, the old d20 stuff goes the other way. The better part of the early stuff dealt primarily with the human kingdoms and civilization (the setting's called the "Iron Kingdoms" for a reason). The Witchfire Trilogy was the first thing ever published related to the setting and it is focused primarily around Corvis and Cygnar.

If your DM was really into "simulation" style role play it was basically unplayable. You could make it work, but a small talking warjack of unmatched craftsman ship is problems. You also needed a party that could support you and your robot needs, the whole thing looked pretty taxing very little benefit.

No it didnt. Optifex's still look like they did 13 years ago, same for lucant, and same for the servitors.

Servitors are playable and are fielded in every list. Just because we never saw the warjacks didnt mean they didnt have them, the cult was ultra secret. The temple you get to explore was coverting a lay line, but not that the party knew any of that.

I just don't think getting ADR does that much for any of the minion warlocks, including Rask. I'm not actually a Minion player so I might by wrong but I don't think giving Rask specialists really allows him to work better against certain matchups he doesn't already beat with a standard Rask list.

This is really neat, because against bricks I can switch the ATGM and a solo of choice for a Stormclad. Against Butcher3 (who I WILL be facing) I can switch ATGM for Eiryss1 and Alexia1.

The only things I will not be able to deal with are W9V and Wold War, but that's just a Cygnar problem in general. Taking Caine2 over Stryker2 would help with W9V, but that would drastically reduce the armor cracking capabilities.

Sadly you're right. Same goes for Eiryss2 though. Removing a Bokor is one thing, but getting rid of X Ragers is hard. Maybe if I keep the ATGM in and use them for Thunderbolts to get the Shield Guards out of the way; instead taking out the Lances because they'd die horrible deaths anyway.

Then again, Stryker2 doesn't really need Eiryss' shots to kill anything. If he can get to Butcher that guy is toast. Sadly the same works the other way around.

He can always recast it, but 2 focus is a big deal if you are running 3-4 jacks. If alexia is in range, I highly doubt he would unless absolutely necessary.

pEiryss can disrupt jacks, but if the eager up thats all she can do. eEiryss can do everything she can do and more, its just not straight up auto win if you nail their caster with her bolt.

Yo fellow skorne players, I play pMorghoul a lot and am looking to branch out into some new casters and playstyles. Looking to pair something with either pMorghoul or Xerxis.

I'm wondering which Warlock is best for an infantry heavy, attrition based game? I was thinking of running Swamp Shamblers and the recently buffed Immortals - run dudes forward, they die, collect souls and zombies and run forward again

I'm mainly looking at pMakeda and Mordikaar. Zaal could possibly work, but I can't really figure out how to run him at first glance

Both Zaals can run infantry spam pretty well, and so can Mordikarr. Give them a look.

I haven't needed to do ever do this, but can either Eiryss remove upkeeps with her melee. I think the epic version can.

Something to think about if they have a shield guard.

You take 70 points of goodstuff from Gators. ~2 Posse, ~2 Croak Raiders, ~1 Sacral Vault

Fill that with solos and a few warbeasts. Then declare 20 points of stuff as specialists and be done with it.

Purification is a defensive spell more often than not, because it totally fucks up your enemy plans. It also fits into his spell list of not having any real upkeeps(beyond one that's matchup dependent if you bother).

Dissolution Bolt is a straight up defensive spell, because it stops certain spell assassinations and can really fuck over casters who need to channel defensive spells. Not commonly used, but plenty good when it comes up and certainly defensive.

Stall is another defensive style ability, which you can use to keep a warjack from running to contest a zone. Sure, not super common, but his weapon needed a special ability and it fits his idea of being a mechanic.

Lucant is a boss. Also, who the hell complains about shit like this?

Have to remember that Convergence casters are, fluffwise, controlling every single warjack at the exact same time as they fight. Their MAT/RAT are lower because it's a lot harder aim guns when you're also having your other warjacks fight and casting spells yourself.

Also, to fit the faction's tabletop playstyle of having to plan out activations so much. Prime Axiom gets played with Lucant all the time, despite RAT3, because the faction can work around it.

Hell, if Lucant had any higher RAT, he'd be kind of stupid.
