Hey guys, I got into this hobby a while ago and impulse bought a whole load of Imperial Guard.

Aaaaaaand I realised after I assembled them all that I don't like them. So now I have a leman russ, a chimera, a command squad, two infantry squads, two heavy weapons teams and a militarum tempestus squad.

What the fuck should I do with all of this shit? Like I said it's already assembled and I removed as many mold lines as I could. It isn't well done but hey.

Advice guys?

If you haven't put paint on them yet then don't. Painted models have a dropoff in resale value compared to unpainted.

What don't you like about them? Do you know who you want to play instead, and if so what appeals about them?

Oh I moved onto Eldar, who I liked but I REALLY liked their cousins so I started them instead.

Aaaaaaaaand they were kinda bad on TT and I didn't enjoy playing them. So I moved onto Blood Angels!

Aaaaaaand yeah... back to Eldar. Never really gave up on them anyway.

Now I have a small but growing Eldar army, with Chaos daemons being next because I adore all out melee and their models are amazing.

I just want to know what I can do with my IG tbh.

All in all, if you care enough about you're hobby, at least try to paint you're shit you lazy fucktard.

All is not black and white, if you like to play proxy just to win it, go for it. If you fancy to at least try the actual rules for the weapon you're dude is equipped with, then do it!

The main point being, do what ever makes you have a good time, thats what this hobby truly is about!

Cheep scoring troops? There is nothing really to use IG for other then cheap troops, transports if needed, or even some better tanks then SM if you really need something tanky. Don't get your hopes up though on a unit with AV though

What if it's fully painted but the wrong weapon? Would you still get so angry? What if I literally had no weapons that were able to harm one of your units, would you let me proxy a few or do you really love winning that much?

If you're bouncing, try painting up a single squad of troops from each. It may be that some of them make you think "that's not really what I had in my head" when you look at them in the flesh, as you are capable of painting them, but one makes you think "yes, this is exactly what I wanted". Also cheaper to realise you don't like an army when you've bought just a single box.

I never understoof why a dying race where even 1 eldar life is considered as precious as a whole city of humans (to the Eldar) throws it's citizens into battle with the equivalent of a nailgun and a flimsy party hat for protection.

IG tactics are fine when there are more lasguns than stars in the galaxy, but not when your race is depicted as so precious that even the most basic dumbass on the craftworld gets to hobnob with his ancestors in the Infinity Circuit.

Crunch=/=Fluff

An armour save of 4+ is really good protection according to fluff, but so much pens it on the table it doesn't seem like it. The same can be said of the weapons, its best not to make assumptions on the operating procedure of a race based on its tabletop stats.

They didn't always do that. And a sgt. has to bring more to the table.
I don't know why they can't have a regular sgt. and then the warlock on top, honestly. Or at least give the warlock more options than taking a spear.
The kicker is that right now a guardian with two pistols is mechanically better than a defender or a storm

It blows my mind that guardians still suck beyond a giant unmovable wave in front of an avatar.

I do believe WYSIWYG goes both ways. You simply cannot think that it only benefits one of the two armies involved? In some way or another it will affect BOTH armies, with equal chance to bring both fortune and misery.

If I model you're figure with a missile launcher, the model has a missile launcher. To say otherwise is to lie, and could possibly confuse my opponent when I fire my "counts as lascannon".
In what way is it "wrong" to play it as a missile launcher? I clearly knew what it was wen I put it on the model didn't I? What purpose other than trying to get a better chance at winning does it serve? If its only there for points filler, why not play smaller games?
If I assembled the model without any knowledge on what it was, I just thought it looked cool, then at least thats what I will have. No matter how bad this model is on the table, I can still say its a cool miniature, because I liked the look of the weapon I gave him.

Well, thats hilarious! Anyway, the point I missed was this, wouldn't it be great to see two armies proxying away all of their actual wargear to be "better" towards their opponent they have in front of them. All this while negating the idea that they could just have played with WYSIWYG and had an equally bad match up this game. As in, it wouldn't have mattered, all they did was improve both teams chance to succeed, when it was pretty fair from the start....

If I upgraded a basic weapon to something better, say I upgraded a bolter on a tank to a lascannon, and found I didn't have the points include the upgrade would you still allow me to use it as an lascannon or would you want to agree that it's a bolter? Most people would agree to a proxie downgrade but not an upgrade, why? Because you force these limitations on people to make yourself more likely to win.

It's like that anon who complained kit-bashing was a WAAC tactic because it changed the size of the model for line of sight purposes (You see what you get and you can't see my scout 'terminator chapter master'!!11!).

I didn't force anything. Its you're honor that restrain what limits of WYSIWYG you play by. I could agree on you're idea if the points isn't enough and its the only tank you have (no way to miss that one proxy). But on the other hand, if you didn't upgrade it "just because" you wanted to get wargear, some other shit you thought was better, and you clearly could have upgraded that lascannon but simply thought "hell Ill proxy", thats pretty low. Why hell, Id even help you with magnets if thats you're main problem! That way you could have easily swapped that cannon out if you wanted to.

For instance, I have a stupidly expensive Scout Veteran Sergeant with p.fist and a combi weapon (... don't ask... for god sake don't ask!). He looks cool as fuck, and is just the way I want him to be, but he never accomplishes anything. But I still play him, because I like the model, and I think that one day, he might get his shot! No one forced me to put the things on him that I did, it was my choice because he looked so cool.

Hey guys I've been doing a ranged ambush, leaning pretty heavily on stealth suits and drones, themed Tau list, started as 500 point skirmish force gimmick and built up to 1000.

The gimmick was having my commander in a marker drone unit, directing the battle from afar- Missile pods and target lock so she's not literally just a glorified drone controller- As some stealth suits did the real damage. 2 min fire warrior squads just to stay bound.

Expanding to 1000, I threw in some more stealth suits, then added a Sniper Drone unit for suppressive fire/anti MC and a lone Broadside for anti-flyer. Broadside was a bit out of theme as a static model, but since his job was to deter air support I figured it tied in well enough. Watching the army's back from something that could fuck up the commander's plan.

So obviously, with the new Codex out and my theme involving a lot of stealth, I got a full Ghostkeel unit right away and will be running the stealth formation. It's a little overpowered for my tastes, but it does cover my previously lacking anti-vehicle niche, so yeah.

Where I'd like a little help is working out how to round out to 2000 points, still in theme. I don't want a lot of typical cheese stuff like Riptides, especially as the formation in the list is already enough cheese for one army. But on the other hand... A minimal troop tax ain't gonna cut it anymore at this level of points, so that needs changing up.

I don't really want to expand my Fire Warriors, as gunline is the opposite of what I'm going for. I could do Breachers in Devilfish, but two units of them seems a huge investment... So I'm leaning towards going Farsight Enclaves and doing a unit of plasma rifle suits and a unit of fusion suits. Adding homing beacons to my stealth units to stick the landing.

After shuffling points around to accommodate that though, still a couple hundred points short. Any advice?

First and foremost, so not to confuse you're enemy. And if need be, a "remember that this is a..." so not to confuse.
And this also reflect the "within reason" aspect. To much is just going to be a drag for the opponent to keep track on. And it also touches the subject of tailoring, which is just bad form overall.

One time I won a battle with my DW army, the guy got a bit upset feeling he didn't stand a chance with all my +2 saves wandering around, and he hadn't brought enough good AP weapons. Next fight, he deliberately waits for my arrival until he starts building his army. Little did he know, I had the exact same transport boxes last time, but had filled them with my swarm nids! Imagine his surprise when he proudly announced all his special weapon squads with plasma-proxy all over the board, and I opened the lid of my box. Priceless!

If you have a single Broadside and 1 unit of sniper drones, you have another slot free for more Snipers. Go with that. Also perhaps consider getting even MORE stealthsuits and stick Shadowsun in with them.

If you want more Troops, consider getting one or two full squads of Kroot Carnivores with sniper rounds. Make them go Solid Snake style in a forest for cover.

Seriously, this game was a blast, me and my friends started doing things like "imperial guard assult" where you replace the assassins with 8 re-spawning guardsmen (they come in four at a time after the first main characters) A commander, a commish, a psyker and an ogryn. The idea is you're twice as weak as compared to the enemy but at least you have numbers

Definitely considering Shadowsun, though I can't go for both her -and- Crisis Troops. I think she might work pretty well in two member melta bodyguard team with a puretide chip on one of the guard as a precaution against Knights and Wraithknights though? I don't have a real superheavy counter elsewhere as far as I can tell.

If I was to double up on Snipers, an Etherial would be helpful, yeah? Area denial on backfield objectives by threatening triple shots on rapid fire instead of double.

As for Kroot: Definately more optimal than fire warriors... But I'm not as keen on primitive auxiliaries in this list. Not that I don't like Kroot on their own merits, just figure the low tech is a bit of a thematic clash with the high tech information warfare of the commander?

I honestly can't say, I don't like using Ethereals. But I suppose if you keep them safe, of course you can. Sniper drones are pretty fucking rad. I adore the whole stealth schtick the Tau can pull.

As for Kroot, I perfectly understand and agree with you. It's much nicer for me to have a cohesive army all of the same "style/vibe". I just figured you might not agree so I gave that suggestion. Perhaps consider using min-squad Pathfinders with Rail Rifles?

My opinion is that WYSIWYG is usable during the most obvious of times (tournaments, apoc games where there's so much shit none of its equipment matters, etc.), but using it as a standard for playing with people will generally discourage them and will cut back on how much you get to play your own army.

A lot of the kits are pretty limited and some codices (esp. since the dawn of formations) require absurd or very, very specialized amounts of units. For just shooting the shit at a local, my opinion is you should never be afraid to play with anything at the same point value, but I generally play armies that are fairly competitive within codex.

Proxying just never bothered me since I can usually keep very good track of equipment mentally, but in the cases where WYSIWYG is preferable to allowing the other player to proxy, it's usually because they're trying to be an absurd dick. In these cases, it's typically better to just walk away instead of grinding through the frustration and tediousness of someone trying to proxy a netlist to play a random at a game store.

No problem. Took me months to figure out what WAAC (Win At All Costs) meant.

With WYSIWYG, most people are pretty reasonable - if you're proxying you Raptors with Flamers to be Raptors with Meltaguns, for example, and ALL of them would be one or the other, most people are pretty cool with that, especially if it's a new thing you're trying out before you buy/model it. Same with some units - most people will allow you to proxy a unit if you want to playtest it with either a similar model (A MkIV Dread counting as a Contemptor, for example) because most people have totally been there and bought a model they thought would be good and ended up being terrible, so they want to playtest something new before they drop a quarter of their paycheck on it. There is a reasonable limit to this, though - if you're playing game after game and constantly proxying the same thing, but never actually trying to get the model, then most people will call you out on it.

Some guys take it way too far, though. I know a guy who belittles players who don't have a Bolt Pistol strapped on to the CSM's, because it's a standard weapon and therefore must be taken. We give him a ton of shit for it, though, so he's learned to drop it.

So, here's my issue with that.
Games-Workshop sells an Eldar Farseer model with a shuriken pistol and a staff. Not a witch blade. Not a singing spear. A staff.
And a second with a witch blade and a smaller witch knife, and no shuriken pistol. And a Farseer/warlock on jet bike with a spear or blade, but no pistol.
This person would get fanny flustered over me fielding this legal, GW models as they were supplied, if I did not hunt down extra loose DA swords and pistols.

I've never heard of needing WYSIWYG for base gear the model comes with in my life.

Yeah, we've pretty much explained that to him multiple times, so he's dropped it. He just feels that if you're going to be in this hobby, you should go to every effort to make it as good and accurate as possible, which isn't a horrible thing to believe when you compare it to WAAC players or netlisters who have no concept of strategy and tactics. It's actually really good but people rarely use it because it's expensive and the model is hard to build and the unit is a bit obscure.

It's a very sturdy flyer because it's AV13. AV12 on a flyer is equivalent of AV14 on the ground, and even the Thunderhawk and other superheavy flyers usually only have AV12. It also has a giant melta blast cannon, and it can store a ton of guys in it. Like 10 terminators or 20 regular guys. It's also an assault ramp vehicle, like a Land Raider, so those guys can charge straight out of it.

It also gets some flyer rules to make it a bit faster and deadly, along with a special ability to ram things like it's a tank, with an extra bonus.

So you get

- A very tough, fast flyer
- A huge melta cannon
- A huge assault transport
- A huge flying battering ram

You might be able to build one out of two plastic Space Wolf Stormwolf ships. Might be easier/cheaper than getting the FW one. Then again, it might actually cost more and require a ton of annoying sawing. Too lazy to check prices.

What if you modify a different miniature to fit your theme. For example I field these as my Thousand Sons Forgefiends. I made them arm cannons and they fit the size and the base has the same dimensions. Or using a model that just doesn't have the same wargear pictured. Is it ok to do that? It'll never get changed, but it will always be a "proxy"

I'm not a fan of counts-as, but since you made the effort of having the right base size and weapons, I wouldn't say anything.

I've contemplated replacing Centurions with two marines in power armor before. I know people who do that for Oblits too.

I Infiltrated three Hellflayers about halfway up the board out of sight. I moved them out of LoS for most of his army again the first turn, then charged all his Assault Marines the second turn. I mulched two of them (completely annihilated one of them with Hammer of Wrath hits alone) and downed another to just three guys. While they weren't the mainstay of his force, they were supposed to be the fire magnets, alongside his Contemptor, that allowed his other, slower units to advance up the field. It did not work as planned lol. He now despises them with a passion, and ALWAYS wipes them out the first chance he gets every time I put one on the tabletop now.

Proxying means soda can is a drop pod.

Legal weapons and base = conversion.

Sometimes completely unidentifiable bullshit also counts as a conversion, because people IRL are all touchy feely and PC.

Me and a friend of mine are considered hobby gods at my LGS just because we like to convert cool stuff and actually bothered to fully paint / base our armies.

My painting is a bit above average, pretty solid tabletop and my basing is basic dirt, layer, wash, drybrush but when 90% of people never even make it to the base-coat stage my shit really stands out.

Which sucks because i just wish people would put some effort into their shit, these are the same people who buy new stuff all the time and loiter at the store, perhaps building but NEVER painting so what's the excuse?

What about my bikers then? They're Tomb Guard riding floating shields. They are technically armed with combi-bolters on their bikes and 2 meltaguns on the regular bikers... but their model is wielding a spear and any attempt to glue the guns on ruins the aesthetic and it clearly doesn't fit.

I was thinking of painting the spear tips like fire, as they shoot melta beams from the tips and I would also paint "MELTA" on the rims.

Oh yes, I'm all for that. I just knew I had to do something with the tomb guard models in the sphinx kit. I turned three into bikers and have one of the princes ready to be done as a Sorc on bike. Even the 2 bikers are different from the champion, as the 2 have the same pose while the champion has a different one.

Not gonna lie i prefer the idea of 'Marines holding tomb king items, etc' I would try to stay away from having over 50% of your force being 'skeletons counting as marines' might piss some people off

For the staves just paint the plasma blue and the melta burning orange, make the basic 'boltgun' guys purple or something

Want stealth? You'll want to spring for Kroot as another Anon already mentioned. 7 point snipers are fucking filth. Infiltrate them into a forest for that sweet 4+ cover save and go to town. Or better yet, throw in a hound (for a measly 5 points) and you practically don't have to roll to see which table edge you outflank on.

You might also want to look into grabbing some Krootox. Normally they're a bit of a duff option but it seems like you're lacking some heavy ordinance. Infiltrating three of these in means that you can melt light vehicles with 6 Str7 AP4 shots in 24". Often overlooked.

Downside is that even with a shaper, your chickenmen have a measly leadership 8 and will likely run as soon as someone even mentions the word flamer near them. But you need the guns. You need the Kroot.

Dunno how the Kroot are now, but back when I was into 40k and had some Tau, my Kroot were always the ones that took out the most people. Of course, I didn't really know how to play Tau at the time, but my Kroot were fucking badass. I won a couple games thanks mostly to Kroot ambushes wiping out infantry.
And when models broke (didn't have a proper case) I'd just paint some blood where a limb was lost. BAMFs.

Hello, my friend and I are idiots and we would like some clarification on something. Attacks cap out at strength 10, right? That is, if a Dreadnought (S6) punches a Riptide (T6) with it's power fist (Sx2), that attack is S10, not S12, so it isn't instant death, right?

That is correct. You can't insta-kill T6 models unless there's a special rule specifically stating that you can.

Technically there's Strength D weapons, but that's a whole other kettle of fish and you won't have to worry about it in most (friendly) games.

They've changed quite a bit. They can't melee for shit nowadays but they still shoot like a dream, especially since they can grab a cheap sniper upgrade each. The big problem is that more armies can ignore cover easier meaning that kroot rarely last until the end of the game anymore.

I have only gotten five games in but the army has been a blast. Only one once but I enjoy it. I love the Deff Dread model.

Unfortunately I am working on acquiring more than half of a new detachment so I can run a nonforgeworld list against other new players and at local GW tournaments.

The Supa-Kannons might be worth looking into along with Big Trakks in general.

Not sure how effective they are but the Supa-Kannons are STR9, AP3 and you can squadron the Big Trakks they come on in a Codex: Orks army (but not the Dred Mob itself).

They can be heavy on points however as each Trakk with just the Supa-Kannon and no other upgrades is 120 points.

Nope. It's smaller for a start. As for Ghostkeel, the reason is that

Keel = Important structure (or spine) of a ship
Ghost = Paranormal spirit, often invisible or barely witnesses

The idea is that it's a Ghostkeel, as in, it's an invisible, barely seen, but important spine structure of the Tau way of war. The Ghostkeel and Co make sure the big guns are silenced and anything they can't do is targeted by Tau big guns.

So, a hidden "spine" of the Tau war machine. If all stealthsuits were disabled, the Tau would be fucked.

For example, the objective is in difficult terrain, the vehicle moves to it but immobilizes itself on top of it.

Standard boyz in trukks isn't all that recommended unless you're willing to dish out more points for 'ard armor, because an exploded trukk means a whole load of dead boyz and wasted points. Gretchin are also a great core troop choice because they're cheap, hold objectives, and go to ground like it's nobody's business. Who's gonna waste their time blasting your gretchin when there's a mob of meganobz rushing them?

The warbikers guns are going to provide a solid volley of S5AP5 gunfire, so your units of lobbas may be better served as units of lootaz for higher power gunfire, more versatility, and more massed volleys of bullets. They can be anti-infantry, they can be anti-light/medium vehicles, they're also going to be your dominant form of Anti-Air without a traktor kannon.

Aside from that, a stikk-pain-bikestar is always fantastic, meganobz are a great tip-of-the-spear, and tankbustas are great.

No, that's not the problem. The problem is the Tau, a very minor and small race compared to the Imperium, is able to out-gun, out-manoeuvre and out-supply the Imperium.

Shadowsun out-ruses a Raven Guard Chapter Master, a chapter famed for infiltration and stealth, then proceeds to shoot him once and kill him. She also KO's Khan and makes him go semi-renegade. Then the novel where she survives so much shit it's stupid.

Combined with the love they got of 4 solid weeks of extra shit and the FW shit and people are mad.

SoB for example won't ever get such treatment.

Yeah you don't really need trukks, they're still good because 12" movement, 6" disembark then 2d6" assault will never go out of fashion, but they've been nerfed hard every edition. Battlewagons are good for sure although you won't have room for them if you're keeping the dreads and kans around (which you should if you like them).

If you want to go fast then warbikers are the best option right now, ded 'ard, fast and shooty all in one package. Buggies, grot tanks, deffkoptaz and stormboyz can be great as well but much less reliable than a good block of biker boyz.

Went off on a tangent there a bit, basically though you want to have a solid fire base covering your boyz (the walkers), the slab of green meat moving up and holding objectives and something fast to skirmish, assault and generally annoy the other players units with. It's how orks have always played. Just remember the top priority is getting stuck in while having a laff!

Well changing from a dread mob can be as simple as swapping in two units of gretchin for troops. Unless you wanna run hordes of 30 slugga boyz bubble wrapping your dreads. Personally I charge forward burna boyz in a trukk, though a wagon with a killkannon becomes a disgusting short range survivable powerhouse.

Dreads are meh, but FW mega and Kustom-Meka Dreads are beasts on the field.

How do you wanna run your army? Gunline-y? Thunderblitz? Shooty n movey? Hordes? Elite? Fast? Mekanized list? I need more details.

Well those are popular tactics but they are kind of limited depending on what your Meta looks like.

Wrecking a trukk has never been that hard and is even easier with ramshackle being nerfed so it really benefits them to either be in cover when the shooting starts or to get up the board as quickly or far as possible before the Trukk is inevitably lost.

Forgeworld has some different transports for Orks but none of them can Flat Out like a Trukk can save for the War Kopta.

The only difference between a Trukk and a War Kopta is that the Kopta can Jink, but cannot carry any models or units with Mega-Armor.

There is a formation called the "Blitz Brigade" that may be worth looking into for Battle Wagons though I don't really know what they do or how they work with Burnas other than having them roll up and mass flame something off the table with multiple templates given the vehicle is Open Topped and allows all of the Burnas to fire instead of a few.

By virtue of actually having a decent hierarchy the Tau are way more coordinated than the Imperium which is ridiculously bloated and slow. They don't out-gun but they have a skill at out-manoeuvring that would get an eldar jacking off.

That was never anything more than speculation. It looks like it's going to have more in common with GW's boardgames than its tabletop wargames, though, so I wouldn't expect the models to have anywhere near as many stats and special rules as they do in regular 40k. But there's nothing stopping you getting the Forge World books and using the contents as the starting point of a 30k army.

To answer your point, it's a means to an end. The Execution Force Board Game? It was a way of flogging new Assassin Minis and have a fun game to go with it. /tg/ and lots of other places moaned like shit that their specialist games (Necromunda, Gorkamorka, Man O War, Dreadfleet, Battlefleet Gothic, Warhammer Historical, Talisman and so on) were canned. Well they're now doing specialist games, with the bonus the new models can be used in 40k.

It's long been said that FW will release an IA book which will bring AdMech vehicles into 40k to be used. The rumour I had seen (and propigated) was Tau vs AdMech. But that doesn't seem to be happening. The original rumour I saw was Chaos vs Tau (which changed to Admech instead of Chaos) and that was supported with the Chaos Knights. But then IA13 came out and it probably was rightfully switched.

This is a gateway game. You buy it for the game, you get models, you use models for 40k, then you notice FW and their 30k stuff and get into then. It's both a product and marketing.

I'm going to use my old copy and paste on why Shadowsun is insane.

1. Survives her flagship being one hitted by a defence laser
2. Survives escape pod entry
3. Survives escape pod being attacked by a Ursasloth (Bear Sloth?)
4. Escape pod fills with water, but she escapes despite nearly blacking out
5. Gets out, strips, re-enters water and lasts even longer, eventually entering her suit
6. Walks all the way to a downed Manta with 40 FW's alive and she enters combat a few hours later (no rest, nothing in the mean time)
7. She then solos 6 Sentinels and a load of IG
8. Then captures an IG
9. Strips again, gets shitty clothing, learns some plot stuff
10. Then goes on a long hike with 30 FW and IG captive, she doesn't eat, drink or sleep in this period
11. Survives an attack by 3 Valkyries
12. Survives a huge stampede by Not!Deer, half of her FW don't
13. Survives an attack by snakes, most of her FW don't
14. Ursaloth then attacks, rest of FW are killed, she, IG and one FW survive
15. IG then pulls a gun on her, but lets her live cause "muh family"
16. 40 Storm Troopers and the IDF Colonel ambush her, Colonel says "lol, fuck you, Imma gonna shoot you"
17. Shadowsun goes "lol coward, duel me 1v1 fgt", of course, Colonel agrees
18. Colonel stabs her shoulder. She bleeds.
19. Colonel cuts her leg down to the bone. She's able to stay standing and she's bleeding out.
20. Colonel then stabs her through the chest. She's now blacking out.
21. IG Captive tackles the Colonel and gets stabbed through chest as well (with a power sword)
22. Shadowsun remains awake and kills not only the 40 Storm Troopers, but Colonel and a Vakyrie
23. Shadowsun, injured FW and IG captive survive to objective and leave

This is beyond even Space Marines and Space Marines have tech to keep them alive specifically. She doesn't.

So far I have gotten raped by Necros (after declining a Tau player) and tabled by Ultramarines.

My main problem is that other new player simply refuse to play against my list once they hear the word forgeworld and the tournament they have set up doesnt allow forgeworld anything.

I chose the dreadmob because it let me spam the models I like the most (deff dreads and kans are 1 and 2 for me).

If Deffkoptas and Stormboyz work (with their one character with the vulcher legs) or if Warbikes were cheaper I would use that option. So far though I have just been told to trukk boy with a battlewagon of burnas and more lootas sticking at 1250.

as a reminder to some folks: most of the legions adopted color schemes and squad markings similar to current "modern" heraldry during the scouring, just after the battle of terra to make differentiation easier, so for some chapters it is possible to do a paint scheme that is both 30k and 40k friendly. This is particularly useful if you play Raven Guard like I do: Legion companies took on nearly identical heraldry to modern battle companies, most consistent are 3rd and 5th companies

most of the other legions are pretty close between 40k and 30k, though white scars and salamanders have some squad marking differences that they also adopted during the scouring.

another option is to put a unit in your backfield that will be able to counter-charge and destroy units like that ironclad.

units like the annihilation barge are exactly why I asked the question to begin with, since that layout seemed nicely clustered, you might be slightly better off going double KFF

Honestly these boyz on the list don't do shit besides hold objectives. They hardly ever get to fire since they get dont get vision of shit till they get templated out.

The lootas have good range so I usually keep them close to my table edge in cover.

I am trying to brainstorm a non-boring ork list with no more than 30 boyz on a normal CAD for 1250.

I've never seen stormboyz but they have fun models.I wish I could do the checkered pattern but I am the worst painter ever.

They're valid, bonus points if they got re-based to the new base size if it is larger, but it sometimes is a treat to see them.

My only real gripe ever about OOP model usage is tyranids to blob them inside the venomthrope bubble (smaller models and bases), but it's tyranids and the poor guy needs whatever he can get to avoid being tabled, and the paint is beautiful.

Cause I'm sure the Ordinatus rules says that all weapons, D included, are reduced by 1S.

Also, people forget the Eldar D weapons are -1 on the D Table. Which means they can never get 6. If they roll a 6 they get 5 at best.

Ordinates reduces damage chart results (including D) by 1, which is infinitely more powerful. It means you can't get rekt for a huge batch of HP from destroyer 6 or explodes results unless it's from AP1 weapons rolling 6s

Honestly there's just no good Ork answer for drop pods, not unless you're running a green tide and give precisely zero fucks about 5 melta-gun totin' fuckwits showing up on Turn 1 and alpha striking your shit. I've just given up on running Orkanauts with the current state of the game; it doesn't help that their rules are pretty shit as is, but the anti-vehicle capacity of the average army right now is simply insane.

I've always wanted to try that but I'm leery of buying Kataphrons and then finding out it doesn't work. Never actually seen a conversion of it despite it being a fairly obvious one you'd think. I certainly thought of it the second I saw those guys.
