Hey /tg/,

Bit new to this, and was wondering what the consensus is on Cyberpunk RPGs? I'm talking strictly Cyberpunk, and while Shadowrun looks cool, the whole magic and elves shit just isn't for me. So I was hoping for something more Blade Runner/Deus Ex like, but I wouldn't have the slightest idea where to start.

There's no consensus, but if you want a modern take on pure cyberpunk, Interface Zero 2.0 for Savage Worlds is pretty good.

Then there are tonnes of tiny obscure systems:

Remember Tomorrow
Zaibatsu
Corporation
Wyred
Parts of Eclipse Phase.

Plus I've seen like 4 homebrew updates to Cyberpunk 2020 here on tg. You can check the 1d4chan archives for some of them.

Also, the original Interlock rules for CP2020 have been homebrewed into a new system called Interlock Unlimited. You can find it at Datafortress 2020.

I've heard people complain about Eclipse Phase quite a bit. What's wrong with it?

Would you go with a smaller system? Are they more detailed then the larger ones? How's the fluff in most of these? I really dig the film noir feel of Blade Runner. Gritty, grimy, neon covered.

Eclipse Phase has some mechanical problems, is very granular (1-100 scale with lots of little bonuses) and is extremely dependent on the world setting, which is transhumanist and breaks a lot of the laws of economics and science that would be familiar in a cyberpunk setting. It also assumes Earth has been destroyed, so there's no point of reference for a cyberpunk near-future game. The tech is pretty cool though. Also, the devs are SJW dicks and their politics are pretty much hardwired into the setting.

Also furries, transhumanist furries and lolis fucking everywhere

I could never figure Do Androids Dreams of Electric Sheep. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they never explained HOW the Penfield Mood Organ worked. All we know is that there were no wires or connections of any sort, but you dial a number and it either gave you a general mood or gave you a very specific thought.

eclipse phase is fine if you house rule it (yeah I know all games are but the fundamentals are fine it just has complicated combat and character creation rules).

If you want a classic Cyberpunk experience you can get it pretty well in the setting is keep to Mars or Jupiter where they are text less over the top and corrupt government and corporations rule. The rest of the solar systerm system is post human libertarian wet dream however.

If you are looking for a system to run home campaign in, consider just using Shadowrun w/o metahumans and magic. It works perfectly fine.

You are talking out of your ass man, Shadowrun is quite modular, you can drop deckers out of the game and just leave that shit to NPC's and no one will notice. All you are losing by cutting out metahumans are metatype options, all you are losing by cutting out magic is magic. But since apparently you have such a big stick up your ass that you are unwilling to even consider it, you do you man.

This. Interface Zero is incredibly deep and full of awesome cyberpunk goodness. The 2.0 book is incredibly immersive and sucks you right into the setting. My favorite cyberpunk rpg.

If you want a "narrative" games, then I'd recommend Remember Tomorrow and Technoir.

Technoir has some cool stuff for plot generation - you pick a 'Transmission', which is sort of like a specific setting for the story/stories to unfold in. There's, I think, three in the main book - LA, Singapore, and Kilimanjaro.
Each Transmission has a six-by-six table, with people, places, organisations, objects, threats, and events.The people all have their own mini-table which provides connections between them and other things. So you generate a story by rolling up one or two of the things on the main table, joining them, and then you decide how they're connected.

So you might roll up a NPC and a...let's say a place. This might be where that character hangs out, where they work, where they've committed some crime - who knows? Then you add to that by rolling up another thing, and connecting that to the last node - maybe you roll up a gang of hoodrats this time. So now you've got a NPC who's done something at a place, and maybe that's the turf controlled by this gang of hoodrats. Did they see him do the thing? Did they make an arrangement with him?

So it goes on like that. It's very noir-ish, hence the title, and it's good stuff.

I'm a Cyberpunk 2020 DM and player. I find CP2020 to be almost perfect. Having been through Interface Zero 2.0, I must admit that it Iz has quite a few good ideas. For example I like the possibility to start as something else than a human (cyborg, android, clone...). On the other hand I don't like the background. It's too much science fiction for my taste. And why the fuck, did they include furries?!?!?

CP2020 has furry options too. And there's even art in the Nomads book where a caravan is being menaced by a full-on anthropomorphic cat and snake on motorcycles.

Interface Zero 2.0 has a whole settings chapter on space with various corporations that run different parts of the solar system and all the orbital and spaceship technologies available. With that and the Savage Worlds Science Fiction companion (which has rules and stats for space vehicles), you can run a really good Cyberpunk companion in space.

If we're going to add every system that just has a cyberpunk element added to it, then wh40k qualifies for this thread. Not to mention that shadowrun does in fact have a general if it's own and it's always people simply trying to coerce people into doing shadowrun by saying that all the other systems are shit.

I'm the Anon who mentioned shadowrun in the first place. No body but you, faggot, mentioned all other systems being shit, and I haven't even posted in this thread after OP outlined that he wants more in depth "living in the cyberpunk dream" mechanics, which SR simply doesn't go deeply into.
