I was actually planning on doing just that tbh.

My character was an Aegis/Soulfist(?)/Metaforge with 2 levels in Monk, then was taking my....10th or 11th level(I forget which) in Warder for those Broken Blade stances and that sweet Int-based Combat Reflexes.

My Aegis build meant I was shitting damage and had a 10 or 15ft reach with my unarmed attacks, so I'd just charge in, full attack, then AoO the fuck out of anything that tried to mvoe afterwards.

MoMS can now only take Style feats (aka the first ones in the chain) pre-req free. So they can take Pummeling Style pre-req, but not Pummeling Charge.

It's because you add enhancement to your fists.

I think there's a 4th level blade skill that gives you magic fists, though forming it along with the panoply reduces the enhancement of everything by 1.

Remeber, though, there's also a PsyArm blade skill for using panoply components in melee, so if you fluff the components as magic flying hands, you could put your hands "into" the flying hands like a glove for those melee attacks, and launch the ranged attacks by punching the air in the direction of the opponent.

It's not just that, they still need to meet the pre-reqs for the higher level feats in the chain, so any benefit from gaining a style feat without the pre-reqs is completely gone as soon as you try and get more benefit from it. If you have wildcard slots, you also still need to have the pre-requisites. This not only removes the MoMS monk's ability to avoid feat tax, it made it WORSE.

Honestly, I think the only decent class in there is the Occultist. The Spiritualist is underwhelming, the Kineticist is awful (even though it can be workable), the Medium is legitimately terrible unless you only focus on its Cleric and Wizard paths, and the Psychic is just yet another full caster.

I guess it was too much to expect any of the classes to really shine in a unique way.

But I kind of want an occult NPC anyway, I'll have to find a way to cram one in. Which hurts, because my campaign is already a fucking mess of NPCs and plots.

And last time I created an NPC specifically for the party to just latch onto as a friendly non-story-related thing (it was a female Shae), they didn't bite the hook at all.

I'm the guy you replied to, and I've played a Master Summoner in a few games.

It's only for high-ish power games since Summon Monster doesn't scale well above CR+2 fights even with optimization, and I would refuse to summon absolutely anything unless I had an index card with its fully adjusted stats on it prepares beforehand and a plan of what the monsters would do for at least 3 turns.

I'd also avoid summoning more than 3 to 5 things in any given combat, and the majority of those things were single attacking monsters like Earth Elementals.

It only takes forever if you're having to roll like 5 attacks for 10 monsters every single turn. One GM even let me pre-roll the attacks for already summoned monsters.

Most players of Summoners are discourteous assholes who don't prepare anything prior and ruin it for everybody.

I tend to play minionmancers; if you actually take the time to prep properly so that you have the stats of everything you summon on hand and are paying attention, it doesn't take all that much longer.

The issue is that people usually don't want to put in the effort to make sure that they have the individual creature stats for every creature they've summoned because 'you can just look it up in the Monster Manual', and often aren't bothering to be considering not only what they're going to do on their turn, but what each minion is going to do on its turn, so that you can get through the actions one after another.

I mean, there is going to be some increase in time inherent in having more things on the field, but it doesn't need to be a major one.

You don't get to choose that. You get to summon the monster with one command to carry out, and after that is accomplished, the DM controls the monster.

You can give summoned monsters a command after they are summoned, it just takes actions to do so and a shared language/Handle Animal (for SNA).

And I meant that more as "this monster will do X for 3 turns because that is how it fights, so I should be prepared to take my next actions accordingly".

Also, most DMS have had me roll my monsters attacks. They have enough shit to control anyway.

Well the first thing you should know is that Legacy of Fire is fucking awful.

The second thing you should know is that you're a DM, not a librarian reading a book to kids. That means you ABSOLUTELY MUST read the entire adventure and prepare your materials well before running, because you need to know the plot inside and out, specifically because APs are written with very limited page counts, which leads to lots of story events, NPCs, and other details not getting nearly the development or screen time they actually need. And you need to know what these are so you can go in and fix them before your players have to endure you fumbling like an idiot to explain a plotline you don't understand.

If you really want an AP with a compelling story and awesome setting, run Curse of the Crimson Throne. And I highly suggest using my re-writes to make the intro 10x better.

Runelords too. Great base, and I did a re-write for Skinsaw Murders that every DM I've given it to has raved about how well it went with their players.

Less talents than a kineticist, but lots more points to spend on them. Tier 4 I think, better than the kineticist since you don't have to kill yourself, you got good Cha sinergy and lots of skill points.

My whole party is literally in love with you.

She's just the nicest, cute girl you'll ever meet with a love for inflicting pain.

The Hellknight in the party pretty much treats her like a little sister and there's a running joke since they both wear spiked armor, she gives him 'Porcupine Hugs' and leaps into his arms, usually after a running start.

She's BFFs with the Shelynite who is trying to keep her from going to the dark side and the Variasian Swashbuckler is unsure if he wants to hit that, especially since 'Daddy' Sial is a very attentive father for his precious daughter.

I don't know if I ever made a proper document for it, I'll get around to it sometime.

But basically: What I did was take the Skinsaw Murders and re-arrange the whole thing so that the section in Magnimar comes first, immediately after the murder scene in Sandpoint, and the players actually spend time in Magnimar working directly for Justice Ironbriar, who is basically using the party to take care of his problems around the city and buy him time to clean up his cult business by sending them on false leads. Eventually, the party gets enough clues to find the real trail of the Skinsaw Cult and face Ironbriar in the Sawmill where it actually feels like a real betrayal and he has some build-up instead of just showing up out of nowhere.

After that is solved, the party returns to Sandpoint where Aldern is still running wild and causing the Ghoul plague in the farmland, which they hunt down and track him to Misgivings Manor, which I put at the end of the book rather than the middle. So once the players delve into the haunted house, they learn the history of the Foxglove family, and eventually put Aldern to rest, and are led by a final clue back to his house in Magnimar where they find the documents detailing his family's descent from nobility and his financial ruin and the terrible things he had to do for the Brotherhood of Seven. Which sort of ties the entire book up neatly, and makes the Skinsaw Murders really more of a story about the tragedy of Aldern Foxglove, which I think is a bit more emotional for the players if they connected with him in Book 1.

Oh, I should point out:

I'm not running Runelords anymore, but I am going to sit down and re-write Burnt Offerings at some point. I've currently chopped pieces of it out and fused it with chunks of Dragon's Demand to make this weird flesh-golem of an adventure module to serve as the lead-in for Jade Regent, another story I'm working on padding out and adding content to in my spare time. I'm still running CoCT, so that's a work in progress.

It's possible I'm the only DM that cares about hacking apart Adventure Paths and stretching them out to run longer and have more coherent narratives, but if any other DMs enjoy this process too, or just think "Man this sucks, I can write better than this", I'm happy to workshop ideas and come up with something together.

I don't get a lot of chances to bounce my ideas off people, so any time I can run things by a third party it always helps.

Once simulacrum is a thing, NOT having a army of lower level casters following you around fire-balling things to death is only because of housefules or gentleman's agreements.

Honestly: combat at that level exists only in the imagination, as "showing up with thirty level 10 wizards who each have a familiar holding an ill-omen wand and who launch 12d6 fireballs" is just a standard strategy that isn't even hard or expensive to do. I would argue that the warpriest adds enough casting utility to be better in setting up the fights and making them happen well, as well as dealing with tricky situations, but its all mind games and theory talk over level 12.

The caster bullying will continue until I figure out a way to hard-counter casters as a completely EX/mundane character.

Thus far I've figured out that you can use chaos flasks to form flux slime, giving you a 10ft radius of AMF with no magic.
Further you can gain non-magical buffs using auto-progression and Mi-Go technology items.

I'll be testing the mage killer in gestalt with a bunch of my other dumb gadgetry like the Desmodu cable winch and shapesand, using unchained rake/mageslayer rogue one track and bushi warder-landsknecht in the other.

No magic, using only non-magical curatives, etc.

Anyone got any other mage-bullying techniques?
I've a few others but I don't want to keep this post concise.

Our party lacks a healer; the GM says I can take Leadership for a cleric cohort, but knows how much I can minmax, so we have the strict conditions:
1) All levels in cleric
2) Healing spells only

What's the best I can do with this?
In particular I'm looking for a way to potentially get infinite out of combat healing for the party, and also any sneaky ways to give them other utility that doesn't count as 'non-healing spells' (eg good domain powers, or spells that heal but have positive side effects.)

The cleric would be level 6 at the moment.

yes I have. I have explained that class abilities that are literally "fly 6 minutes a day, and heal less than a wand of CLW, while getting a +4 to an attribute" is not worth a tier change. It just isnt. Everything else on that "discovery" list the mutagen fighter gets is trash. Can we not do this again? archer fighter does barbarian-tier damage fine without the mutagen archetype. and a melee mutagen fighter can never deliver enough damage to even compare. The difference between tier 4 and 5 for some classes is "actually being good at your job", and the archer fighter is good at his job, while a greatsword mutagen fighter just isn't.

Regardless, Vitalist and the Life Sphere are way the fuck better at it than Cleric by a wide margin.

The Archer Fighter does barbarian-tier damage yes, but that's ALL it can do. A Barbarian can grow natural weapons, gain natural armor, get Disruptive and Spellbreaker, and various other Rage Powers that are simply BETTER than "am more damage-dealing durrrrrhurrrrr". And a Mutation Warrior doesn't need to fly for more than a couple rounds each fight at-most, doesn't have to worry about dying to a sudden crit with their self-heal, and can decide what attribute to boost on-the-fly. You've proven that an Earth or Air Kineticist is T4, you've gone and done that with heavy optimizing. Surely, you can see that a Mutation Warrior Fighter can do the same thing. More importantly, a Mutation Warrior + Eldritch Guardian + Maneuver Master Fighter, with all of those archetypes stacked together, is a T4 class because of all the potential and power that it has over a regular Fighter or even an Archer fighter. You see that, don't you?

We do that already.
Every attempt to use it to heal the party has ended in all our UMD users rolling a nat 1 before the party gets fully healed.
GM is very casual about a number of things (All magic items are half price as if crafted), but he's put his foot down about sneaky ways to get unlimited healing. I managed to get Elemental Flux Stance's fast healing 1 past him, but that's only for myself, and leads to me standing around at full health while the rest of the party is half-dead and wants to go home.

Also, "Domain slots can be filled with healing spells if you take the healing domain, so do that."

This all seems kind of harsh but I like the RP of having a cohort anyway, and GM has let a number of nice things slide for my main PC

At this point I'd just ask the GM to build a healer Cleric he's comfortable with the party having and have him control it or something. These restrictions are basically reducing your player agency with this Cohort to nil anyway.

Also, get a Wand of Infernal Healing instead if you have a morally ambiguous party. More reliable for when you have time to use it. Plus it's on more lists than CLW is, so you won't need UMD probably.

Theoretically yes, in practice: no. Spell sunder, Superstition, Beast totem, and CAGM end up eating up all of your feats and rage powers. It's actually a really tight build that can claim the "murderpounce", and that build can't even make itself fly.

Funny, because Archer and Mutation Warrior don't stack. They both replace Armor Training/Mastery. So no, your theoretical Archer Mutation Warrior can't either.

Also: not ACTUAL archer archetype. OH GOD NO NOT THAT THING. I mean a normal ass fighter who uses a bow. Sorry for that.

And a familliar is "you get a extra standard action per turn to use any wand you want"-the ability. That alone is really nice, especially in combat. Self buff with enlarge person, gravity bow, true stirke 1/turn...etc. It ends up costing a bit but it is really really nice.

Both are gimmick builds. They're designed to revolve around specific spells.

The octuple intensified shocking grasp Magus for example becomes absolutely useless against slimes, constructs and anything that resists or is immune to electricity.

The named bullet spellslinger eldritch archer suffers when they're against anything immune to crits or negative energy.

It's like they always say. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Except in this case the clock is less of a clock, and more of a merry-go-round hooked up to a jet turbine, flinging small children off it in all directions with velocity sufficient to wrap them around the bars of the jungle gym.

Sometimes one of those kids lands in a bush and comes out of it dizzy, but unscathed. The best he can hope for by then is that he gets away before the fat kid loses his grip and goes flying his way with uncanny precision and caves in his skull.

I'm actually liking shrugging off speed decreases, and decreasing penalties at high encumbrance. Of course at high level you shouldn't really have enough weight on you to ever been in high encumbrance.

Healthy as a Mule really isn't bad.

Efficient Packer is better than Bravery, but everything is.

I would wish Unobtrusive didn't take your lvl 1 bonus feat.

Also it's always nice to have more skill ranks per level.

On a whole... 6/10, above average fighter archetype. At least it's funny.

Damage dealers still have their place, because at high levels you run out of things that actually "end" encounters. You end up with casters who push things towards ending, but need someone else.

This of course can be supplied by a host of things, melee alchemists, summoners, holy bow inquisitors, or a host of other damage dealers.

In the scope of things every group need 1 guy who can actually deal damage reliably in a host of situations, and if I had to choose one it'd be a ranged alchemist, as they can get around nearly every immunity/damage reduction/etc.

You're still competent if you build competently, you're just limited. Eldritch Guardian/Lore Wardens do fine. I played a fighter with the best knowledge skills in the party with a sage/figment familiar.

I did ranged combat well, pumped out damage, and supplied the party's knowledge on all the essential stuff. I felt fine.

I say if you want to do damage and nothing else then sure? That's that a fighter does, damage when he can reach a guy, nothing when he can't. Still some funny stuff you can do, such as charisma damage with destroy identity.

I'm stuck teeg. I'm really stuck. I have agreed to run a campaign for my mates in 2 weeks and need a plot. I can get away with throwing them in to a dungeon off the bat but they need at least a bit of plot to keep them going. I have built an outline for the entire region; high fantasy, magical creatures common, dragons are not too surprising etc but I don't want to just have "there's an evil dragon doing evil stuff that is evil". I have dungeons designed for days. Traps, puzzles, encounters but no... major plot.

GM block sucks.

I would avoid the Plant companion, as none of them are really great stand outs. The treant is cool, as is crawling vine, and the carnivore flower, but they're all still meh. I personally would pick the Growth domain and try to out-fighter the fighter by fucking with your size and wildshaping.

As much as I like the flavour of this ArC, I cannot recommend it. You need those Arcane Pool points, and you can't dump your money into your weapon. But, if you don't care about being optimal, just build it like you would with a normal magus, except restricted to 1-handed swords, preferably a falcata.

I can get my Bluff, Diplomacy, Disguise, Intimidate, Sense Motive, and all Knowledge in the +40s (yes, really) as an 8th-level alchemist/incanter, but my GM would prefer to not have skill optimization. However, combat optimization to the point of using Broken Blade/Shattered Mirror to consistently one-round two CR+1 or +2 enemies during turn #1 is fine, and in fact, that is exactly what one preexisting party member is already doing.

Should I just suck it up, lower my skills, and optimize for combat instead?

I have indeed asked the GM, and they are waffling on it because they do not know how to handle such numbers. Conversely, combat encounters are relatively easy to increase the difficulty of, so combat optimization is more manageable.

To be fair, Pathfinder's completely nonfunctional skill system is why I would never GM it. Nevertheless, I would still like to play a skill monkey whose investments in feats, items, and class features actually allows them to use skills to great efficacy, as opposed to them being a purely average option.

This would require heavy feat investment and some race stuff. Depends on how far you want to go with it. With some good optimization at level 8 you could be looking at high-20s, low-30s skill bonuses.

Both are viable methods.

Sometimes I see some mechanics or think of a combo, and a character just sort of congeals, sometimes I have the character first.

Although all other things being equal, it's actually probably slightly better to go mechanics first. A character can be made to fit any mechanics, but the reverse is less true, since the 'rules for everything' supplement has yet to be released.

So that one guy is clearing shit to a mad degree? What do we do? Crank up combat difficulty? Then what about the other people? Do they just getl eft behind or murdered when that other person can't kill everything instantly?

Conversely, what about with skills that high? What's the point in DCs if the bonus is that high? If you crank them up so there's an actual possibility of the person failing, they become outright impossible for anyone else.

Basically, one person being a cunt breaks the game for everyone.

For the record, don't actually raise DEX. Go full STR and get Shield Focus and Defensive expertise so you can apply your shield bonus to AC to your Touch and Reflex Saves. It might be worth traiting or traditioning into Mithral Current to pick up all those sweet, sweet counter attacks as well. And the movement shenanigans do a good job of imitating dodge rolls.

I'm personally quite a fan of companion critters; my first foray into DnD 3e was with a druid, since a friend told me they were hard to screw up as long as wisdom was high, and I've had a love of maintaining extra bodies on the battlefield since - I've played master summoners, a conjurer with an imp familiar, and my favorite, the Mammoth Rider.

I think the only companion I actively dislike is the Promethean Alchemist homoculus. It just feels kinda bad, and there's a lot of RAW shit you can do with it that's outside of RAI and breaks it wide open. At base it's bad - if you take things to make it better, the construct modification subsystem falls apart because it's not built to handle creatures that are free.

I'd say that the benefits of a familiar and swappable feats makes up for the loss of Weapon Training.
If you add Mutation Warrior onto that you lose the less-than-helpful Armor Training for the ability to use mutagens, which is also a nice upgrade. And it stacks with both Eldritch Guardian and Martial Master.

False. Any kind of healing will automatically stabilize you, but it heals from whatever your current HP is and does not automatically put you above 0. That's a rule in 4e.

A cryptic question. Well actually two of them.
-How does a Grammaton's disrupt work? Is it a standard action fired through a gun? Is it 'carried' on your first gun attack each round? Is it loaded on every shot you fire?

-Traps. 1000xCR. What in the fuck is the point? How do you cheapen this? Because that's utterly insane.

Oh and I guess a related one for psitech:
There's no uh, restrictions on what traps can be installed on a mech. I'm just gonna go out there and point out pit traps opening up where you punch and rolling boulders might kinda be nonsensical.... OR utterly badass, depending.

If the latter, it's gonna need a sentence or two explaining/justifying it.

Just as a small FYI, small-sized creatures get +1 to attack rolls in addition to AC. It nicely cancels out their penalty to CMB, since combat maneuvers are attack rolls. Anyway, I don't think you'd get either set of changes, the way I've always known these spells to work in Pathfinder is that you get nothing except what the spell specifically mentions.

I agree with you on the second answer, but I'm not so sure about the first. I was under the impression that you get absolutely nothing except what the spell lists, so you wouldn't take the normal size adjustments to things like your AC or skills. Can you show me a source on that?

It's 1000gp x the CR, to BUY a trap.

Crafting a trap costs, default, ~333gp per CR, if it's mechanical. This can go down reeeeeeally low if you try to do it at all.

To be fair, I believe the system for making traps allows that exceptionally simple traps may be as much as 50% discounted from the price that the standard formula suggests, at GM's discretion.

So it's more like 500 GP.

Like, say, a repeating trap of some really useful spell.

Like buffs in a castle. How about a trap that casts all of the Bears Endurance/Cats Grace and everything spells on anyone who enters the room while wearing a certain pendant? How about it also does that with Blur, Mirror Image, Stoneskin, False Life, Lead Blades, and a lot of other buffs?

Mechanical Trap Cost

The cost of a mechanical trap is 1,000 gp × the trap's Challenge Rating. If the trap uses spells in its trigger or reset, add those costs separately. If the trap cannot be reset, divide the cost in half. If the trap has an automatic reset, increase the cost by half (+50%). Particularly simple traps, such as pit traps, might have a greatly reduced cost, subject to GM discretion. Such traps might cost as little as 250 gp × the trap's Challenge Rating.

After you've determined the cost by Challenge Rating, add the price of any alchemical items or poison you incorporated into the trap. If the trap uses one of these elements and has an automatic reset, multiply the poison or alchemical item cost by 20 to provide an adequate supply of doses.

Multiple Traps: If a trap is really two or more connected traps, determine the final cost of each separately, then add those values together. This holds for both multiple dependent and multiple independent traps.

A mechanical trap is, by it's nature, a mundane item. Mundane crafting is at 1/3rd the price, and the price is 1000gp x CR.

Give me a bit and I'll look up the feats to reduce it down to dumb shit like 1/6th.

Here. Now it's a base of, assuming you're either a Kobold, your GM isn't an ass, or you're pulling some shit with feats to qualify as a kobold, it's now 500g per CR, reduced down to ~165g per CR if you're self-crafting.

And that's assuming you aren't working with your GM or something to use existing materials rather than have to buy them all.

Black Markets is a book about black markets and things therein, including drugs, poisons, cursed items, black market downtime, and Pack Mule fighters.

Distant Shores is a setting book that doesn't seem to be worth money so far, apart from a single trait that lets you use Strength instead of Intelligence 1/day for checks.
