Just because it isn't new doesn't make it any less shitty. In fact, in this case, it's even worse, considering the importance of Chaos to Warhammer, whereas in previous titles at least they started with an appropriate amount of armies and the dlc were more nichey (Shogun 2 and Hattori, for example). In this case, they subbed out Chaos, arguably poster boys for WHFB, for VAMPIRE COUNTS and made them into a god damned preorder bonus/day one-er.

And I'm definitely never preordering anything from CA, not with their reputation for releasing buggy messes. I wasn't planning on buying this game day one anyway on that basis, instead opting to wait a month or so. Now I feel forced to wait upwards of a year for a collector's/"Game of the Year" version, if only out of personal ethics. I hate how I have to feel this way about a game I was so excited about.

Lizardmen aren't in this game.

It's 3 games, 5 factions each. Since there is 15 in total, makes sense. It's 3 games, which all combine into one massive game, or you can only get two and it'll still work. It's basically expansions which can also work as stand alone games.

It's assumed to be

Game 2: Bretonnia, Wood Elves, Ogres, Beastmen and Skaven

Game 3: High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, Daemons and Tomb Kings.

At least, that's what I'm assuming.

If you don't like it, which I can understand, then just wait.

However, pressuring them might work. The faction is in the game anyway, the DLC just makes them playable and adds some more stuff to them as well. It sucks, but at this point, I personally couldn't care less and as for CA releasing buggy messes, this is true. But it's ALWAYS been like this. When SEGA took over in 2004, they were kept to a time table. Regardless of the games quality, it's made ti come out. We have a release date of 28th April 2016. Which means, if the game isn't bug free 2 weeks before 28th, then it will be released buggy.

Now, all AAA games are buggy by default, this is part of coding and it's always going to be like that. SEGA is the one who should get your hate, not CA. As I said, go on their forums and go "What the fuck?" and keep going "What the fuck?" and hope it changes.

I'm more pissed they're doing different CE's for each faction. I dunno who to get. I like Dwarf tactics, but I don't like the CE stuff. Hope Empire and VC are good.

I really wanted unique models, remember Gazbag and Grumlok from AoR? I still have that model.

Fair enough. Not me thou. I'll be getting whatever is the best faction CE.

I'd actually love an Age of Sigmar game as well. I think a cool RPG would be pretty awesome, travelling the realms. You could make it so you play as each 'side', so Order, Chaos, Death and Destruction.

Still need Lizardmen et al in Vermintide.

An RPG needs more depth to the setting beyond the endless battlefields we're going to see
Casual FPS and MOBA are way more adaptable to AoS

My local hobby store has a contract with GW where they get GW products discounted which is also extended to the customer.
However after the AOS the hobby store has no interest in maintaining the contract.
40k and AOS, WHFB are now in a single small aisle forced out by wormahorders.

It is safe to say that AoS sales are not as big as 40k sales. And GW doesn't give a shit. All they care about is if AoS sales are bigger than whfb sales, which from what I have seen it looks like a definite possibility.

So AoS doesn't have to become the next big wargame, all it has to do is beat whfb sales, which I don't think will be that hard.

That's completely irrelevant, its not the heroes or the character interactions that happen mainly in the books.
Its the setting and the quality of it.
Old WHFB had factions that wrapped fantasy cliches and historical civilizations and had them interact to develop some really awesome lore.
Age of Sigmar is probably that laziest fantasy setting I've heard of.

Except it was broken dumbass. Fantasy sales were so low it wasn't financially viable. At that point they had two options. kill it off entirely or take a gamble and reboot it as AoS.

Or launch two games based on the Fantasy IP that would reinvigorate the brand and potentially work to draw near people into playing Fantasy after they got their taste of Vermintide and Total Warhammer. Despite claims I haven't seen a single figure from GW or anyone else that shows fantasy not selling.

The problem as I understand it is since 2007 businesses have been looking for large growth, it can't be consistent slow growth, it has to be very large growth which is usually unsustainable which is why movies, books, boardgames, and vidya has all been decreasing in quality.

According to this source the hobby market has actually been growing which strikes the author as odd because it seems that GW want's to appeal more to painters then people who actually play the game.

Is that so unusual?

WHFB didn't need to be fiscally unsustainable, it could of just not had the profit margins that GW wanted.
Considering the price of a barrel has gone down nearly by half and oil being the chief ingredient in plastic that decreased overhead should be reflected in their products.
However their products have only increased in price, which means despite having to pay less to make the same thing which means more $$$, they increased prices showing despite a windfall of increased profit they still look for more profit.
Which fits the economic norm that has come out of the 2007 depression.
Endless growth and profit regardless of customer satisfaction.
Which had lead to incredibly large profits until a point is reached where the userbase gets fed up and abandons said product, usually leading to the bankruptcy of the company.

Yeah, but TESO had a really solid core gameplay experience, which comes forward of any lore concerns.

It's the same with age of shigmar, I find ot much more appealing now that the core rules have been condensed, nobody is forcing me to accept the new setting.

This is anecdotal of course, but all I can tell you is whfb was dieing from what I've seen. It cracks me up how grognards talk about whfb now like it was GWs bread and butter and dropping it was a huge mistake.

Like I said earlier, GW's only goal with AoS was to make something that did better than whfb. And time will tell whether that is what happened.

But canning whfb wasn't the 'biggest mistake gw has ever made' like a bunch are claiming.

People use the term 'failing' because they like to compare it to games like 40k or warmahordes. They say because it is not as big as those games, it is therefor a failure. Not realizing that all it needs to do is be more profitable than whfb.

Let's say, for argument's sake, that whfb was doing consitently 10% of GW's sales in the US. This number of course is not accurate, but again just for argument's sake. Now let's say after AoS it is now 11% of GW's sales in the US. That would be considered an increase and therefor a success.

So while it seems like AoS is failing in the US, well so was whfb, and we still don't know for sure AoS is tanking unless one of 2 things happens:
- we see financial numbers from GW that shows it was a complete and utter failure
- they can AoS altogether like they did with whfb

I actually really dig the lower entry point for the game. I've always loved skaven but paying upwards of half a grand for an army always kept me away. With the new clawpacks it seems that evrey niche can be played for less than two hundred bucks. Rat ninjas are only $130 for the Eshin claw pack and that's with double sized units. The moulder pack is similarly priced and you get a giant monster. Anyone have experience with Skaven can offer advice on viability of Eshin vs Moulder clawpacks?

Supposedly these repacks are coming at a slight price hike, but not by much. Really if you do find old boxes at LGS's, pick them up, because you can get circular bases easily, especially if you want to do 3rd party scenic bases. I am definitely looking forward to the battletome because sometimes they do change the legacy warscrolls a bit when they make them into current ones.

It's a good chance to use the units that were over-costed in 8th Ed. Generally, don't spam heroes, monsters, & war machines, relative to the game size.

It really is the way this game is meant to be played. If you are looking for a way to make competitive builds, AKA traditional list building, find out how the guys at your LGS are doing it. It is likely they are using some composition system (see OP) or just doing it by wounds or something.

Pic related is a set of houserules one LGS has adopted for simplicity. It's really up to how your local meta does it.

But narrative campaigns is really the way to go with this game.

The thing about AoS is there is no standard.

I guess the best kind of 'standard' would be having a hero character, and a couple different units of troops and maybe a monster/warmachine.

There are no force organizations with AoS at its core. It's all about fielding an army that you think is cool, and yes, even tells a story. So for the most part build a themed army and tell your general's story.

Again this may change according to how the others play in your LGS, they may use a composition system which may have some force composition rules, or may be simpler than that.

Allow me to give you an example of a list that you can do now that you couldn't before, and one that fits a theme.

Thanquol and Boneripper
A unit of stormfiends
Hellpit abomination
a couple Packmasters
A unit of rat ogres

The theme is obviously moulder creations and the skaven masters who love them. This isn't a specific list or anything, but gives you and idea what you can do. If your LGS likes to use wounds as points or some composition system, you will likely be outnumbered most of the time because this list is all about big scary monster over numberless rats.

Again, forge a narrative and have fun. That's the point of this game.

WHFB has discussion because there's limitless ways to build your army wrong and suck, or buy the wrong models and stuck because they're bad on the table, or suck because you don't properly exploit rules minutiae properly, or suck because you bought the wrong army, or suck because you don't have the right things on the field to counter your enemy, or suck because of bad strategy, or otherwise.

yeah, if anything, AoS has been good in that it took all the models, most of which were awesome but had shit rules, and gave everything good rules so you can actually field them. Like, the Lizardmen have a dual kit for a Troglodon and a Carnasaur, but you'd never ever see a Troglodon in 8th ed. because it was just worse for it's points. This was basically the case for like 2/3 of the models in the game, which had to have hurt sales, and probably demoralized the people in charge of sculpting the ranges in the first place. swigmar rules azyr, and is it's god, but he's not omnipotent or omniscient, and therefore cannot claim total mastery of the whole plane - in the same way that although nagash is the god of death, but has been killed several times and his own realm is overrun with demons. gods in this setting aren't infinitely potent, and their realms are ostensibly infinite in scope, so they can't really rule the whole thing except by self-declared title.

also, serving up MYSTERY is a tried and true tactic employed by like every games company on the planet that makes game settings. If there's nothing to discover lore-wise, it's kind of stale.

I'm also working on some nightgoblins to make scenarios for monster-hunter events like what is being run at warhammer world.

How much do you get paid to do this? Did GW implement a keylogger of some kind for their astroturfing/viral marketing division, or do they just hire people and pay them to post shit like this?

I have my dorfs already, but i am working in Swensens Censers and Tocsins list. So i need to buy:

I already have a box of plague monks waiting to be assembled. Im debating on getting another box of plague monks and making them into censer bearers. All I would need are some flails most likely from the flagellants kit.

I really like the idea of the plague furnace also providing a grey seer mini, and a plague priest that I can base on his own so he either rides in solo (when I want to do the narrative small battles in confined spaces) and he can also go in on his great furnace.

Still trying to come up with the fluff for him and why hes allied with the blightking dudes. I'm thinking they may have a debt to the horned rat, but Im not sure what that could be.

Nurgle and rats are very buddy buddy, all of chaos is fairly buddy buddy with the rats, but nurgle most of all.

Khornates have some issues with the rats, since Skaven are natural cowards who will choose scurying away over glory.

Ive done some weapon swaps, but I wish people made more use of some of the nicer models, like the oldblood from the carno kit. If those were easier to find online I'd make most of my army out of them.

Seen a lot of special rules in the Warscrolls that say you don't NEED to take a battleshock test, implying that if you DID wanna take one you can.
Can anyone think of a reason you'd want your unit to take a battleshock test?

There is never a situation where you want to take battleshock tests. You want to avoid it at all possibilities. That wording just says it's not necessary for those units like it is for normal units.
