I'm running a very ranger/elf oriented campaign. So no real casters around.
This is for a 5e game. I was thinking of building something like a 'skill chain'. Do this, then do that, then the next thing, get effect.
So you might diagnose effect with Medicine 'I need X sort of thing to cure what is wrong here'.
Then you test Nature to determine if any of the herbs that you know of that would work are in this area: success, you know of a type.
Then test survival to go out and find it
Come back and use tool kit to make whatever you need.
Something like that.
I know it seems long and involved, but I like to build narrative stories (supported by dice) rather than just have players toss dice and have effect. Obviously there are times though when that is best.
