First time stories

So last night i just played my very first session of a tabletop rpg ever and i thought i'd like to share with you guys on /tg/.
We played AD&D 2nd edition, but i think they were playing a homebrew version of some sort (my friend mentioned he was an alchemist as his class but it was more like an alchemist in the sense of FMA). Either way, it was probably the greatest time i ever had, and i was just joining in the middle of their campaign.
i figured i would play a very simple character for my first session, so i asked that when they decided a character for me to be, that they make my class a human fighter and give me appropriate stats. they started me at level 3 since everyone else was at least level 3, and i ended up being one of the crewmen of their ship who had stuck out from their last battle. they let me choose my weapons, armor, name, and background so that i could at least have some control over my character was. I wanted medium armor so they gave me chainmail and i chose to have a bastard sword and shield and a shortbow (figured it would be better if i stuck to weapons that made me more flexible in combat). The others were a druid with rune magic that she could quickly use at the drop of a hat just about, a giant lizard guy who i think was an alchemist and another alchemist guy who i believe was the leader of their group as he had all the shit for their main quest (something involving the crowns of old elven kings).
We were sailing away from a temple of winds and it was hard as shit because the fucking wind would randomly change (because of the fucking temple) and we had to sail in the general direction of the wind, which normal was pushing us away from the coast which we had to try and be near in order to get to the quest giver who sent them to the temple (he was some king who use to be a dragon until he got cursed or something). While sailing, he has us make random encounter checks and ended up being boarded by row boats filled with thri kreens.
