Alan was a socially inept gamer with an interest in computer science. When the travellers came for him, he saw his opportunity to live his fantasies. Alan has been picking things up unusually quickly, even getting glimpses behind the curtains that much more experienced travellers haven't seen.

Alan's cyber-eyes can see information outside the spectrum of visible light. It can also wirelessly receive and transmit data between allies, his computer, and his memory box.

Alan uses a Cedril Vibration Dispenser to pull off many of the tricks expected of a rogue, like picking locks or interfacing with computers and circuitry (even if they aren't meant to be interfaced with).

Marco and Chiyome have been teaching Alan the roguely ways. Chiyome teaches him stealth, and Marco teaches him to approach things from oblique angles. They may join the party on missions, but are likely to perform some solo role.

Eve is an unformed AI that lives in Alan's bracer. Alan has been raising her as a tactician with games and game-like simulations. At times it seems like she thinks of Alan as her avatar in a game. The plan is for her to develop into a pilot of drones and vehicles, acting as the party's wheels and muscle. In the meantime, she processes data and aggressively advises the party. She also acts as a sort of interface for Alan, who's too lazy to actually read his encyclopedia. Eve uses Alan's cyber-eyes to create a game-like UI for him.

Prophet is a mostly-formed AI that Alan is putting the finishing touches on. In a party of weirdos, Prophet acts as the face. Not only does she handle direct communications, but she also manages passive communication - particularly the appearance of the party, for some reason paying special attention to Alan.

Arcu is the perfect scout and investigator. His observations can be streamed directly to Alan, or filtered through Eve. Arcu is unashamed about sharing his most voyeuristic observations with Alan.

A couple of threads ago someone did this cool thing where they gave us a bunch of options regarding a helmet, sword, plate, and shield or something and then our builds had to fight monsters of increasing difficulty as the thread went on.

If someone could do something like that in this thread I would be very grateful as that was loads more fun than the waifu-bait/eternally seen images that are always posted.

Err no it definitely happened. I'm sure some other anon remembers; it was like 2 weeks ago.
Basically someone made a really shit drawn cyoa in paint or something with a bunch of items that had different values (atk, def, healing, double strike) and then the person who posted that also posted a bunch of images later on in the thread that were monsters with different stats. The point being that people would try to make builds out of the equipment in such a way that they could kill every monster without dying.

I don't think I've missed a single cyoa thread in at least a month and I don't recall that at all /shrug. It probably wasn't in the cyoa general thread as there are plenty of other quest/cyoa-game-type threads like the civ threads etc...

Try searching 4plebs for the thread and limit your search for like 3 weeks ago to now. General cyoa threads tend to only last a few days at most.

I didn't LITERALLY mean immortal waifus, assburgers. I meant CYOAs which grant people ludicrous, flawless wish-fulfillment, which on /tg/, often (but not always) means having a waifu. Just as often, it means becoming immortal, getting an idealized super body, getting godlike powers, control over a space empire or any other similar premise which is a very far cry from where choice games started ("you're stuck in a box for 20 years, choose what you get to eat").

The only metric we have to judge success is replies. Not be the best way to compare CYOAs across genres as posting a build is harder than simply picking a waifu and so the replies/views ratio may be skewed towards CYOWs for that reason among others.

Y'know what I'm really missing? The days where you needn't do either. You didn't need to post huge builds and count points or what have you. Choice games were simple yet thought provoking enough you could make a single, simple choice, than spend the rest of the thread discussing and arguing its pros and cons with others. I still pull those out every once in a while when I'm drinking with friends and we don't have nothing better to do. We just make a choice than talk about it. Can easily eat up an hour, and you may end up understanding each other better.

Mainly the older "stuck in a room" ones, or the superpower choices. Needed to be stuff that's quick enough to readthrough you can pass it around the table, after all. Desert Islands were also good, though the latter ones tended to be on the long side.

This is relatively old, so I'm guessing no. At least not unless someone else adds to it. It'd need to be a good addition to stand a chance though, considering the vast majority seem to always go for either Fisher King or Road Eternal.

Most of my builds tend to involve becoming the waifu, if I'm perfectly honest. Usually involving extended periods of very strict training.

Mostly I just pretend to be The Doctor. Unspeakable honestly was more to be able to bring others along, though the ability to ignore certain effects and have a final form that's actually menacing helped too. Was considering picking up Medicus but Natural Philosopher just synergizes so hilariously with Form-Changer and made for an interesting addition to the cosmic horror setup. On the matter of flight I figure I can probably just use Form-Changer and copy something flight capable if necessary.

Imagine my bemusement the first time I entered a roadside diner in the Aomori prefecture and sat next to a big, burly trucker dude... reading a historical manga. And old ladies on trains are often found reading shoujo.

I've been here for years. I've seen this place' good days, and I wish to see them return. For this, the current period of degeneracy must be ended. There are already signs of that. The largest cancers have been removed to containment threads, and some have been banned. Oldschool OCs have seen a comeback as of late. Some of that was me, but not all. There are other people tired of endless faggotry, billion page circlejerk wankfests and character generators.

Used to be CYOA threads were places one could go to challenge themselves psychologically and engage in mind-opening discourse. For the past two years, they've been slowly sinking into a mire of putrid virgin cum and the wailing of autists who just want to play roleplaying games without the bother of actually playing the game.

One day, hopefully, this period will pass.

Except that the article explains in a pretty concise fashion why. Once upon a million years back, spiders were a tangible hazard. It was so bad that there was a real, evolutionary benefit to being able to spot spiders and avoid them, meaning even modern day humans for which spiders are no longer threatening are programmed (some to a greater extent than others) to immediately react with distress to spotting a spider.

This dungeon is a Large Dungeon cut into a massive mountain. The dungeon is of best craftsmanshipp. It menaces with screaming faces of Granite. It menaces with labyrinths of Flesh.

The idea is to keep the adventurers in the dungeon long enough for them to be turned. Wraiths and Dullahans combos with the Illusions to turn the paranoia up to 11, Warlocks do warlock stuff and the traps are designed for maximum slow going.
End boss is a Dullahan King

Fire axe, axes are cool and its the closest I'd have to being proficient for melee combat. Plus you can break and pry with it.
Glock, because Idk what I'm doing but 9mm is pretty common ammo, right?
ATV, I've used manual atvs before and they are pretty cool but the real selling point is the mpg. Not as good as dirt bike but more storage and stability. Front guard could take a few impacts too.

The most difficult task in this scenario is staying warm. With my choice of clothing I have that covered pretty well. However I have a distinct lack of shelter items, so I will have to bushcraft myself something to spend the nights in. Due to the second half of this trial being more mobile, I am going to have to make my stopping points each day anywhere where there is natural shelter that can easily be augmented with my building ability.
The first tool I will be making will be a bow, by chopping/sawing down a sapling and then spending some time carving it to an optimal bowlike form. I will use duct tape twisted and tied through the holes made on each end of the bow as my initial bowstring, but the sinew from the first animal I kill will be replacing/augmenting the duct tape. Arrows will be carved by me whenever I have a chance until I have a few dozen.
The very first thing I will do after setting up a halfway decent shelter will be to get a fire started with the firesteel and then search for water / snow / ice to boil in my steel cup. Once I have boiling water, I will cook some rice by covering my steel cup with wood. When I get a chance I will carve a wooden cap for the steel cup so that I can do some better steaming of the rice.
I will eventually build snare traps using duct tape and place them in areas that seem to be traveled by the wildlife.
All meat I get I will cook with a spit built over the fire. Prior to the exploration phase I will hopefully have hunted enough game to precook as much food as I can fit into the backpack, allowing me to travel long distances without needing to stop and hunt.
