FATE STAY THREAD! I need your help /tg/. I'm making a character. Julie d'Aubigny, aka La Maupin, a Heroic Spirit. BUT WHAT CLASS SHOULD SHE BE? I'm thinking Lancer - even though she uses a sword. What are some abilities and noble phantasms I could come up with besides super bisexual powers?\

It depends on the absolute time limit on heroic spirits.

I'm pondering running a sci-fi game set in a Nasuverse where humanity has left Earth, with the moon landings as the absolute limit, to allow modern heroes to have some fun.

"Each Heroic Spirit is a unique existence, "the one and only", who each stood out from the others of their time by performing deeds and possessing qualities that no other possessed. As of the 21st century, the most recent Heroic Spirits are from one hundred years prior.[6] It is still possible for people to make contracts with the world as Counter Guardians and be summoned from the future into the current age as well.[7] While modern weapons are powerful, it would not normally be possible to summon a "warrior from the future loaded with modern weaponry" because it is difficult for such people to become classified as Heroic Spirits. Modern weapons grant ease of use with the advantage of "anyone can use them as long as they were trained", so those who use them are "faceless heroes" who lack any qualities because they possess "expertise anyone can achieve through sufficient training." Heroes loaded with modern weapons would not become the Heroic Spirit, but rather only the weapon being worshipped so long as it harbors a soul.[5]"

In the case of Simo Haya, it's not precisely that he's from too recent a time period - time is irrelevant, they can even be yet-to-be-born heroes from the future. The issue is the gun. The Gun is not a heroic weapon, as per the creators of the series. Simo Haya could classify as an Assassin or Archer, I think, if he was famous for something other than shooting people with a rifle.

I don't buy that, tbh. The gun is the modern analogue of the bow. Then again, I'm the sort who doesn't really care about being 100% accurate if I run a game. The premise of the sci-fi game I mention in >>43348876 is based on FSN, but I'm putting my own spin on it and changing things up because I can.

It's just how it is. Possibly due to the impersonability of the gun as opposed to shorter range, man-strength operated weaponry, as well as the ubiquitous interchangibility of a gun. Seldom is someone renowned for using a specific gun. A gun, by it's nature, is interchangeable. You may use a certain model, but at the end of the day it's just a tool. That SPECIFIC gun is not tied indelibly to your character.

Look at the passage again: "Modern weapons grant ease of use with the advantage of "anyone can use them as long as they were trained", so those who use them are "faceless heroes" who lack any qualities because they possess "expertise anyone can achieve through sufficient training." So while you couldn't have Simo Haya the Heroic Spirit... you could have Simo Haya the Heroic Rifle. Literally a gun with the spirit of Simo Haya in it.

Sucks to be whatever mage accidentally pulls that out of a hat. If you're lucky it'll eat the Archer slot so you won't get counter-sniped, but you'd still just be some schmuck trying to figure out how to win a mage-war with nothing but an talking rifle you probably only barely know how to use.

That was one of the things Simo was VERY good at, so I think you'd be fine.
You'd probably be fine versus artillery strikes and explosives as well. Fucker just refused to die.

His legend is he killed between 500 and 700 people and survived being shot in the face, which isn't a "legend" at all because it's all just a bunch of cold hard facts. All the Simofags seem to be forgetting that NOBODY in the modern era can become a Heroic Spirit, regardless of what weapon they're using.

Even Shiro "I'm literally made of legendary swords" Emiya only slipped in thanks to the Counter Guardian loophole. He didn't independently qualify despite being able to shit legendary weapons out of his ass on demand.

Koujiro Sasaki, the False Assassin?
He's not even a real Heroic Spirit, he never even existed, he was only summoned due to Medea trying to be a cheeky cunt and cheat, and he gets his shit stomped in both Routes he appears in.
The rule exists to preserve the focus on heroes out of old myths and legends, rather than an HGW being winnable by going "lel simo hayha, gg no re".

The rules explicitly state that individuals that never existed and are still believed in qualify.

They can be classified into four primary categories and one unnamed fifth category.

Human (人, ?) - Heroes belonging to this category are those recognized through common knowledge as great people who contributed to humanity and were regarded as heroes for their actions since the start of the Christian Era. Actually, IIRC, according to the 'rules' of the Grail War the mages follow - they are. You aren't allowed to summon a noble phantasm of the nation you are currently having the war in. It would be considered an unfair advantage. Kojiro was a loophole because he wasn't a real heroic spirit, and he wasn't summoned by a mage.

The only actual deity I know of that was summoned was that fox-girl caster in the Moon Grail Wars, who was only capable of being summoned because she siphoned off most of her power in splitting herself into her many aspects, of which the caster was only one.

It's because Humanity as a whole only has X amount of magic to go around, and modern humanity is numerous enough that no one person ever receives the critical mass of mojo necessary to become a Spirit. This is exacerbated by the fact that the spread of information and technology prevents real hero-based myths from forming, which are the other component to the spontaneous creation of Heroic Spirits.

The hypothetical future-heroes presumably come from a future where one or both of the above has changed. Either we nuked enough of our population that the remainder became magical again, or we went full Metal Gear with our tech and now Big Boss/Solid Snake/Raiden style legends who fight giant robots/psychic super soldiers/their clone brothers/NANOMACHINE super senators to decide the fate of the world are a thing.

Most of the "big names" of the Old West were just petty thieves who were exceedingly good at spreading false rumors of how deadly they were. The biggest shootouts in the entire west had single digit death counts.

Normally a copy of the heroic spirit is summoned from the Throne of Heroes, and any memories that copy gets dies with him/her.
Arturia is serially summoned from that last moment in time where she was alive, so it's her actual self being summoned and not the legend.

So the real honest-to-god King Arthur was a girl, she really had a magic sword that could shoot lasers, and the sheath to said sword could really cure any wound and create a magical ultimate-defense fairy bubble (though that last bit should be obvious, since Avalon was a physical relic and not something that was summoned with her).

So just think about that. That's the type of person who becomes a Heroic Spirit, someone who actually rubbed elbows with Merlin and could fire a sword laser capable of destroying entire armies. Not some fag with a gun and a bunch of confirmed kills.

Avalon was the only truly magical relic, and she's summoned with Excalibur the legend instead of the physical Excalibur. She also receives physical powerups from filling the Saber slot.
It's essentially an amalgam of the "Real" Arturia's body with abilities and equipment of the "Legend Arthur" put into the Saber container (which pretty much just grants massive stat bonuses and a couple of skills).

Well it works off of the idea that the Mona Lisa was a self-portrait, or at least Leonardo's ideal woman, and he is supposed to have become a form befitting of his most ideal woman and he's super fine with that.

Honestly the Type Moon crew are really good at inputting obscure bullshit and referencing mythos in a creative way, even if the gender bending can get a bit weird, and some of the actually historical females are way too fanservice as hell.

Like I have no idea why Calamity Jane looks like a fucking Sailor Moon lieutenant villain about to hit space channel 9 aside from "tits sell" which is honestly more insulting to the idea of Jane than any hero getting genderbend because that at least doesn't shit all over their story without getting creative rewrites.

They can be Heroic Spirits despite using guns because they are famous for things that have no relation to wielding guns. Achieving incredible feats or leaving your mark on history is what makes you a Heroic Spirit, not just being good with a weapon.

You should remember that Heroic Spirits generally don't use weapons that anyone can use, but weapons made from mythical beats or forged by the Gods. Their weapons are one-of-a-kind and can only be used by either just one person or a very limited number of people (like with Cu Chulainn and his teacher).

I'm sure he could beat him (since based kid Gil in Prisma and based CCC Gil), but he would probably get apocalyptical-tier mad due to this fucker's skills. Especially if he steals Enkidu.

Now, I could see Basilone making the Counter Guardian deal, if he thinks he might be able to save some of his boys by doing it. I could see Randy Shughart or Gary Gordon doing so as a sort of deal with the Root in exchange for Durant's life. Basically, any soldier who died on the battlefield, especially protecting the guys next to them, I could see taking a Counter Guardian dal.
But Hayha, Murphy, Hartmann, they all died content old men.

This has already been covered: It's perfectly possible to become a Heroic Spirit with the gun. However, just being good with a gun is not nearly enough to become a Heroic Spirit. Neither is just being good with a spear or sword. As already said several times - there are Heroic Spirits who use guns, but those are famous for entirely different reasons.

You need to leave a real legend that will be remembered for centuries or leave a spot as one of the best in humanity's history. Killing hundreds of people with an old rifle is technically impressive, but not something that will be remembered for a long time by anyone but gun/war enthusiasts.

Sometimes I think that F/SN came into being only because Takeuchi wanted to tell everyone about his waifus and bullied Nasu into making a game about it.

Then it somehow sold well and Nasu is trying to pretend it's a deep and meaningful series to cover up for the fact that Takeuchi's raging boner for ladyknights is the sole driving force of everything with the word Fate in front of it.

Sword Autist didn't exist in any capacity. He was created after the decision to switch to a male protagonist.
The Masters were Ayaka, Isemi (kid with a REALLY fucked up past), Misaya (basically Tohsaka but actually the cold-hearted bitch that she tried and failed to be), Sancraid Phahn (pretty much Protomine), Manaka (picture a super fucked up version of Illya), and three unknowns.
Servants were Saber King Arthur (now with 500% more snark and penis), Archer Gilgamesh (though slightly less of an evil cunt, still very much an arrogant prick), Rider Theseus/Perseus (depending on if you want the actual old novel, or the Prototype pseudotrailer), Lancer Cuchulainn (slightly younger and not yet as cynical, doesn't wear the gay space pirate suit, has some strong ideas about justice that could be loosely compared to Shirou, though not quite as crazy with it), Berserker Heracles (essentially the same as in canon), and The Beast (yes, the one from Revelation).

Saber, Rider, Lancer. Mostly Saber.

Same for Roland, Ogier, and all of the peers. They would all qualify as Saber's, but could probably also be Rider's and Lancers. I don't know if any of them went insane, so Berserker is out, and i'm pretty sure none of them were Archers. And they definitely weren't magicians.

Also the Gilgamesh we meet in FSN is a corrupt version that was exposed to all the worlds evils from the grail. Gilgamesh was exposed to the grail mud, but rather than being fully corrupted like absolutely anyone else would be, he refused to fall under it's sway by sheer force of "no, fuck YOU".

The lingering effects of that taint and the loss of Enkidu is what made him a dick. Then again remember that this is the guy who, according to legend, was hardcore raping everyone (literally, not figuratively. With his dick) so much that the Gods had to intervene.

By the by, does anyone know what powers, weapons, or feats are associated with Gilgamesh and/or Enkidu? I'm talking about the real legends, not Fate lore wise. It's for another thing.
