>>43367946Now for the rules portion. Each time one wants to perform magic they consult the spells they have in existence, and if the magic they want to currently do is on that list. If it is they may simply use similar secrets to the one described in that spell and perform it again, or if they do not have enough information or as powerful of a secret to meet the threshold they may attempt to force the spell.
However spells have a backlash, failing to cast a spell forces that backlash on yourself.
Instead if the spell is not on your list then you must create it. You describe what you want to do magically, then your GM categorizes it in the four forms of magic, then gives it a power within that category (greater, standard, or lesser, with greater being equal to the lesser of the rank about, greater addition = lesser subtraction). This category defines the threshold you need pass to cast the spell. Your GM tells you if your current secrets pertain to it, and you then cast the spell (paying a little extra as it is the first time). After you create the spell it is added to your list and may be used again.
A secret is defined by how many people know it, at any given time a player will have a list of pieces of knowledge he has that he, as the player, deems useful. Then you take this using a ritual determine the strength of this secret. The categories are the following.
Powerful - 1
Greater - 2-5
Standard - 6-20
Lesser - 21-50
Minor - 50-100
Mote - 100+
Motes can generally not be used to cast spells, but can be spent in on some certain rituals, like to determine the strength of a secret. Motes are basic knowledge on a subject. Knowing anatomy would allow you to perform the ritual to determine the strength of anatomist's secret.
This system has a lot of implications. Practitioners would obsessively make their own clothes/belonging, perform all measurements personally, hate physical contact. Those combating them would ensure their personal information was known.
