You awaken to the smell of gunpowder and ashes nipping at your nose. The dry scent forces a few coughs out of you as you try to find your balance atop the uneven gravel. Your senses are bombarded by the cold, windy streets of an unfamiliar city in shambles, and shattered glass.
Looking around you see that everything in sight has been touched by this destruction equally. There's nowhere in sight that looks as it should... and that includes you. As you take the time to inspect your body you find that, aside from being naked, there's also a small piece of black metal lodged in your abdomen. It pulses with your heartbeat and radiates heat. To your surprise the edges of the wounds are entirely sealed around the metal. You couldn't dislodge it without killing yourself.
It's strange that such a thing could be inside of you. Your first thought is that it may have happened long ago. You try to remember when, but you can't. You can't remember anything without a great effort. Eventually you give in to the foreboding headaches and stop trying to figure it out. You realize that you'll die of exposure if you're out naked like this for too long.
