Arena is a lot better than expected. I've only gathered one piece of the Staff of Chaos yet, but it's a fun experience.
It's also fun to have a look at the very first incarnation of TES and the lore. Seeing names like Shalidor and the Underking was really unexpected.
Like all pre-warp games, it's kind of hard to say how much of it is relevant to the current lore, but I'd say that it has the potential of being a worthwhile source of inspiration, especially for the parts of Tamriel that hasn't been covered in the newer games.

Do we know which areas of Hammerfell are Forebears dominated, and which are dominated by the Crowns?
I know Sentinel is Forebear and Hegathe is Crown, but that's it.

Anyone else playing morrowind for Halloween spookiness? If you turn off the music, every dungeon is menacing as fuck, and enemies can sneak up on you with hearing a warning change-of-music. It's pretty fun, except when it's a bone-walker. Fuck bonewalkers.

It's possible.
I got the though while travelling through Arena's Hammerfell, which has a pretty clear cultural divide. While I don't expect that to line up with later lore about Forebears and Crowns, it got me thinking about it.

I made a quick search on the UESP, and made a speculative map. The Crowns are actually strongest in the north and on the in-land.
Rihad is seemingly not entirely either faction, but more Forebears than Crowns.
Skaven, Gilane and Taneth are pure speculation, but I've tried to assign them to what makes the most sense with the little lore we have to work from.
We also don't know if the split in Dragonstar has anything to do with Forebears and Crowns, so it might be that the city is entirely Crown.

They say that about King Erarne of Winterhold as well, so it might be that it's a rare comment the NPCs can say about any rules.
I'll try to ask around as I get to new cities, to see if it really is a generic comment.

With the exception of Hegathe, that seems to be accurate from what I've been able to make out.

Pretty much every inhabitant of Markarth is a cannibal in Skyrim. Every bosmer is a cannibal. My point is, yeah it's taboo but it's probably like asserting the king enjoys wearing frilly lady's underthings. Scandalous yes, but you gotta prove that for it to be much more than gossip.

They're not necessarily from the last kalpa, but they can reflect it. The Ra Gada coming from Yokuda to Tamriel. The Nords coming to Tamriel from Atmora. The Aldmer coming to Tamriel from Aldmeris.

And that's hardly a groundbreaking assertion either, since quite a few of those happened in the relatively recent past. At least compared to the length of the dawn and merethic eras.

The first dungeon is actually pretty damn easy if you use the in game map. If you want a game with much smaller and easier to navigate dungeon, as far as retro Elder Scroll games go, try Daggerfall.

Well originally the first dungeon was randomly generated in arena (or maybe it was daggerfall) and like 90% of the time you couldn't actually beat the first dungeon, meaning you had to start over over and over again

Interesting. I didn't know about the first dungeon being random in Arena. Version I had was always the same dungeon with a random "Tell me the cost of casting x" as a "security" question.

I forgot about Privateers Hold. I meant just a random, run of the mill, basic random quest dungeon. Because Bethesda fucking hated us.

Going to be running an UESRPG campaign in a few weeks, have half the party rolled up. We've got a Khajiit faceman swindler who is literally a fat fucking cat and a Nord who is really really angry about Elves.

Starting them off on an island in the Shackles where they're imprisoned by the Thalmor who are selling prisoners off to the Sload. So a prison break is the order of the day, followed by finding a way back to mainland Tamriel.

Setting it a decade or so after Skyrim. Civil war is still going on, and the whole world is very post-WWI waiting to enter into a Second Great War.

I have a feeling things are going to be very silly until they immediately aren't.

Took no time at all. Found the right way pretty early, only died once.
The downside was that I was spat out in Morrowind with quite little loot and experience.

You know, I was thinking of arena, but it wasn't randomization. The lead designer of morrowind is quoted as saying he started arena 20 times but only got through the beginning dungeon once. It's just because the beginning dungeon is (or was) really hard

I wouldn't know about that.

I'd reccomend trying the older games out, especially Daggerfall. It's great fun. And despite being further removed from the lore than the other games, there's still some things that can be gained from playing them, aside from the fun itself.
Interestingly enough, the main quest dungeons from Arena have appeared in almost all the following games.
Daggerfall is the exception, as the map doesn't stretch far enough to include Fang Lair of the Crypt of Hearts.
Dagoth-Ur/Red Mountain is heavily featured in Morrowind.
Cyrodiil has no "dungeon" but the Imperial Palace is naturally still there in Oblivion.
And Labyrinthian is still present in Skyrim.
I don't think it's unreasonable that if the next game is set in Hammerfell, we might get to return to Fang Lair.

Now, that could technically be possible, assuming that Gelebor's apparent immunity to age is a Falmer racial trait and not something he recieved from Auri-el.

I'm not so sure, honestly. Falmer are heavily associated with ice, to the point that their skin is naturally coated in it. In turn, ice is heavily associated with remaining pristine, especially in TES where Atmora was supposedly frozen in time.
Basically, if there's one mortal race that I could see being naturally ageless in TES, it's the Falmer.

Because those falmer that are deformed have a good chance of being that way since the dwemer changed them. Like how Tolkien orcs, if immortal, could potentially be from those first elves and remember what it was like to be an elf.

Considering it, though Daggerfall is way spookier, and the music only adds to that.
Might have to drop a lot of gear though, character has hit level 32. Not too late to respec as an unarmed monk is it? Actually why am I even asking, late game money + training = do whatever, it'll probably be ok as long as you don't go to Mournhold's deep ruins...
