How does your club, FLGS, GW etc feel about printed books from PDFs considering they would all be selling the actual books?

Always depends what you're fighting on what's your list.

Fighting vehicles/MCs or lack weaponry in that bracket? Missile Pod. Fighting hordes/blobs and need more weight of shots? SMS will help.

In fact Full Strike Team with a Fireblade and SMS is a nice 28 S5 shots at ridiculous range, 4 of which are homing and ignore cover. Also 4 gun drones (Fireblade and Shas'ui) and give them an Ethereal's power and that's 59 shots in Rapid Fire range.

I have a lot of local players playing shades of xenos or demons. I am slowly buying myself a few acolytes and crusaders, and modelling them up. O haven't gotten to the actual inquisitor yet, because I have no idea what I want him to be.

Ordo Xenos, Hereticus, or Malleus

O see a lot of xeno and daemon players, and most of them have a ton of psykers, so that doesn't give me a lot to go on.

What would you recommend, and why?

Something like 1850 or so, and expandable to 2k+

I can use the Gladius strike force to get a lot of 5 man squads in Drop Pods, all with ObSec, but it's a lot of small units and my mobility will be limited after I drop.

I was thinking of running the Spear of Sicarius formation at higher points value for the lulz.

The Necrons and Imperials helped out with the small Hive Fleet Gorgon.
The Dark Eldar helped out with splinters of Kraken.

The current power level of the Tau with all the advancements and adaptation makes an even match for major Hive Fleet.

Putting that aside, there are no minor or major hive fleets near Tau space. Only small splinters.

Hell, there has been some fluff on Tau/Necron at all? The only situations in which the two races meet each others I remember were the harvest of Ka'mais (which is only a single line in the Tyranid codex and an Anrakyr quote), a tau world going dark in the new codex and for some reason a period in Darkstrider bg that say that he did something in a Necron ruin.

Yes.

The Tau fought and defeated Necrons in a string of asteroids or something in the second sphere expansion. It's mention in the current codex timeline under the title of "Conquest and Mystery".

Going to play 2.5k game as a Tau VS chaos space marines. It will be a last match with the Tau codex before I get my new one (that I preordered)

But I suck at making lists that are good and now that we are playing such a big game I could use some help in making a list.
Here is what I got in my arsenal:

>2 full units of crisis team
>and 2 seperate crisis suits (that I got from a friend) They can form a 2 man team

>36 fire warriors (3 boxes of 12)

>one devilfish
>2 hammerheads
>Pathfinders
>And I also got some many drones that I lost count

Behemot needed Necron, Orks and Eldar intervention before finally being stopped by Ultramarines and Imperial Navy.

Kraken needed Iyanden full force, intervention from Yriel corsair fleet and again Imperium and a lot of chapters intervention, and it splinted like crazy.

Leviathan took Kryptman scorched earth approach, Eldar ravaging, the full force of the Octarius Empire, Blood Angels and Mephrit Necron forces and they still haven't been defeated.

Tau don't have nowhere near the power needed to fight a Major Hive Fleet on their own. I doubt there is a single faction in 40k which has it, if we exclude hypotetical things like "Necron fully awakened", "Orks united" or "Imperium without other enemies".

Yeah, he is. Frankly, I really like him as a character. I still really dislike (though not outright haetraeg) the Tau as a whole, but he's a breddy cool guy.

Main reason I don't like Tau is the people who play them. They're really convinced that they are being the good guys in this setting, and that the Imperium is a useless bunch of fools.

Maybe the naivete thing is more accurate than GW thought.

Obyron follows Zandrekh's orders only, Imotekh would want to bitchslap any other character who disobeyed, Anrakyr would follow Imteokh until he did something he considers distasteful, Szeras would get a bit too caught up with hunting a specimen down chasing them across the board Benny Hill style and Trazyn would capture his specific objective and then fuck off the board entirely, his quest done.

Meanwhile my player would stop rolling dice just to enjoy the fucking TV show-tier drama amongst my own ranks.

That is absolute bullshit. I know I used to hate Ward a lot before but honestly I don't care much anymore. That and I think Newcrons where an amazing change. Like 3/4 of the Oldcron codex had no options whatsoever, just buy a unit and plonk it down on the table. That and next to no room for alternate fluff or even paint schemes. It was the most boring army bar none, with no room for anything unless you liked the Terminator schtick. I did like that but quickly changed opinion.

Not him but it wasn't essentially about the speech itself. I stated I loved the caracters because of their personality. Anrakyr didn't turn Ka'mais into a parking lot because he felt superior as he admits it himself. If the Tau weren't in the way nor have colonized "rightful necron land", Anrakyr would've probably just kept going.

He is a Cron of principle above all and uncompromising at that. I like the speech blurb because it highlights this well. If you don't like it or the characters, or the faction entirely it's your opinion and I respect that.

Sure. For example, a point brought up was that the Newcron characters have distinct, amusing personalities that really play well off of one another. This wasn't present in previous Necron fluff, and people generally prefer it due to the sense of character it gives to their army. It also makes for better stories, since these characters are now interesting and unique.

Let me see if I got this right.

So Alpha Legion had two Primarchs named Alpharius and Omegon.
They did all the sneaky beaky stuff, like having multiple chains of command, feints, insurrections, decapitation strikes and the like.
Doing this, they seeded members all throughout warzones, rebel planets, loyal planets, and pretty much everywhere in the galaxy.

Then they get a prophecy about the Imperium dying if the Emperor wins, or limping along if Horus wins.
So one Primarch turns to the other and says "Nah, fuck that," and they split the legion. On half loyal, the other half with Horus, but not too attached to Chaos.
At some point a Primarch is killed, but Alpharius made a serum to powerboost a regular marine to Primarch levels for a few hours, before they die horribly, so there's likely still two out there.

So half the Alpha legion are secret good guy assholes, half are evil dicks that are trying to keep Horus's dream alive, and everyone can be on either of these sides, neither of which know any other one is fighting for, and all the while Alpharius and Omegon are playing a game of JUST AS PLANNED too crazy for even Tzeentch to follow?

A: Thraka has summoned Gork and Mork and united the Ork race. Things get green, and nearly everyone gets krumped.
B: Nids. Tyranids everywhere.
C: Chaos time and reality dies.

How worth it is the Miniwargaming premium? I have been watching their batreps as I learn the game.

I like the chinese-american dude, Dave I think? Plays Chaos. He seems fun and all but I can't stand Matt. It's not just the nasally repetitive voice he's got but it seems all the batreps he does is just him trying to get it over with so fast and winning most of the time. I think that's kind of Matt's schtick, that he's the more 'competitive' of the gang. He plays Tau, Necron, Eldar and Astartes from what I seem so that should tell you all you need to know.

Dave on the other hand? Total bro who mains Chaos. Then there's the Mountain, who is a bit of a neckbeard but seems legitimately chill. The rest of the bunch who do most of the non-40k batreps are a lot more dull though.

Still makes them my favorite youtube channel for this sort of thing, I want to like StrikingScorpion but he's so chilled out his batreps become uninteresting (though it was kinda fun watching him play Dave).

Have one of those in my local group too. He also refuses to play against a guy playing an Assault focused BA army, because if he hits CC, his vehicles are gone, and he thinks that is bullshit, so he refuses to play him.

He also refuses to play anyone fielding any number of: Riptides, anything with a D strength weapon, Necrons in general, Dark Eldar who uses lance weapons, and anyone using perfect deepstriking, or Nids using even a single Flyrant, even in 2500 point games.

And he feels that he is super pro at the game, because "I have a 63% win rate bro, the numbers don't lie, I am obviously not bad at this game."

I don't know, I feel it would be pretty easy to have a good win rate if you turn down anyone you know you'd have even somewhat problems with winning against. But that seems to be pretty common among IG players, from what I've met in person, and from the general attitude of IG players here on /tg/. They whine less than CSM, but their whining is somehow still worse, because instead of complaining about their own shit being bad, they are just constantly complaining about everyone else. It's pathetic.

Tau eyesight is actually supposed to be slightly better than humans in most ways (they have sharp vision and can see a slightly wider range of colours), except having poorer ability to focus on fast-moving objects (which is one of the reasons they have universally low ws; they have a hard time dodging blows because they have trouble tracking the weapon swung at them). Presumably the advanced targetting systems they use help compensate for that.

Mostly among IG players.

Most players have fun just playing the game. Some people just insist on having an advantage over others. When other people have an advantage over them instead... well, they start getting bitchy.

It is valid against certain armies (UNBOUND ONLY RIPTIDE ARMIES, WOO), but against most lists, you shouldn't be so buthurt because you lose.

My biggest issue with game-y lists is that the person doing it is often a dickwad about it. Either rubbing it in or getting extremely salty. I don't mind playing a stronger army than me (as chaos, that's almost always but I'm pretty cool about it). Just the fucking ATTITUDE. It's kind of grown on me, aside from the silly open cockpit. If they wanted to model the interior, they could have just done the same thing they did with the Ghostkeel and built the cockpit with a detachable roof.

I think it also requires some repositioning, as the standard "slav-squat" pose looks kind of silly. Modelling it so it's standing or walkign forwards makes it look better.

I don't know if I am just unlucky (Which I probably am, anecdotal evidence rarely means much, though /tg/ isn't helping), but IG players seem far more prone to this. I don't know if it is because they feel more like a "general commanding troops", rather than the intended "guy playing with his awesome miniatures" or what, but damn if it isn't annoying. I've never had a fun game with an IG player. Alright, one, a DKoK player. He had named every single guy, and carefully marked each of them to be distinct in some way, and had them modelled extremely well. Wish I had pictures, especially since I haven't seen him for a long time now.

Remember that you need a markerlight to upgrade it to Strength D, and it still fires as a normal weapon with the one-shot quality. So you need additional markerlights to ignore cover and up their BS to a respectable level.

But yeah in actuality you have to give Terminators a lot of support. At the end of the day they're still one wound each and in times when armies can field AP2 and D weapons easily you can quickly lose 200 points within a minute of the shooting phase.

And you generally want to, as well. If you want to fire 1 Destroyer missile at BS5 with ignores cover, you need 5 markerlights. If you want to fire all 4, you need 8.

If you fire them one at a time, you will end up using 20 markerlights to fire each of them at BS5 with ignores cover. And you really don't want to give anyone a cover save against your 4-per-game missiles. Hoping for that roll of 6 just isn't worth it. Likewise, only having a 50% chance to hit with just 4 missiles... nah man.

RAW no, since unlike seeker missiles, the destroyer missiles do count againt the number of weapons you can fire per turn even if you use markerlights to fire them, and despite it not being GW's intention the rules state GCs follow the same rules as monstrous creatures when firing (ie. can fire two weapons). It does read they cna fire each of their weapon at different targets, but that doesn't contradict the two weapon restriction on MCs since it can just mean that they can fire each of the two weapons at different targets rather than each and every one of their weapons.

I do recognize them, I just don't think IG fits into that category. Not even close. I play Dark Eldar, have since 4th edition. And from my point of view, IG is second only to Tau in how hard they fuck my army up. Give them even slight buffs, and we aren't playing to see who wins, but to see how many victory points the IG player gets.

And you know what? That's fine. Because if you are a faggot who only plays to win, you are playing the wrong game. Play to have fun. I've had a ton of fun playing unwinnable games, because I just embraced that, no, I couldn't win, and instead set up a fluff reason for the battle that I COULD achieve, like killing a specific squad or something. Have a chat with the opponent, play it out, have fun, laugh about the game, do stupid shit and see how it works out.

You'll have a lot more fun if you focus on having fun, rather than just complaining all the damn time.

Depends what you want.

You can make really cheap Daemon MC killers, but they'll only work against Daemons (and we're talking 70 points with a pretty solid chance at killing a Daemon in assault).

You can give any squad you like BS10 against unit's with Psykers, including MC's.

This is pretty good coupled with Ordo Xeno's conversion beamers.

You can make any squad you like untargetable with any psycic powers, which is invaluable against Tzeentch Daemons.

Keep in mind that Ordo Xeno's suck against Tau, unless you consider Pulse weapons Plasma weapons which they technically are in the fluff.

You can make Daemonproof Deathstars pretty effectively but in terms of anti-xenos shit you're pretty much limited to shutting down their psykers.

The biggest tournament in my country goes with the "can only fire two weapons" intrepertion. And while I do think it's stupid, I do agree that from an RAW point of view it makes sense. GCs use the same rules as MCs unless otherwise stated, and nothing in the GC shooting rules directly contradicts the the part in the MC rules about firing two weapons.
If you copied the MC shooting rules onto the GC page, it would read "MCs (GCs) can fire two weapons. GCs can fire each of their weapons at different targets". The former part doesn't really contradict the latter part.

Xenos psykers is the generally most powerful. If you attach him to an assault unit from your main army you give them the benefit of psyk-out, psychotroke and most importantly rad grenades along with possible psyker levels and artifacts.

The hereticus one has the cool null rod thing, and the malleus is the most powerful by himself with terminator armor, psycannon and the like.

Also don't forget karamazov, he has really cool abilities/stats and comes standard with rad grenades. Using his orbital strike relay to shoot str10 ap1 Lance Blast shots into ongoing melee without scatter is pretty fucking powerful.

Or you can take a xenos guy with rad and psykatroke grendes, making a melee unit of your win pretty much every combat

The hereticus guy is fun because with a psyocculum, his unit is BS 10 vs psykers. Or a null rod so his squad isn't affected by psy powers at all, such as invisibility.

Personally I used 2 of the malleus guys, 1 of the other two. Mostly as part of a guard army.

I want to slowly build up a Solar Auxilia army but considering it is one of the most expensive armies in the game (£70 for 20 dudes & 100 points!) I was thinking of using them as Stormtroopers in 40k until I have enough to use them in 30k.

How would a mostly Stormtrooper list fair?

I was thinking of running 4 full squads and 2 command squads with minimal special weapons as paying the full points for a special weapon when the default is AP3 seems stupid.

Obviously I don't really want to take transports as I wont be able to use them going into 30k, so how would just normal ground squads work out? Move through cover should help them stay protected and I was thinking of using the Sniper Order a lot to eliminate any special weapons, including heavy flamers.

Was gonna run normal guard alongside with minimal mandatory troops & HQ just so I can get some Leeman Russ Executionars alongside to deal with heavier shit.

What do you guys think of this plan?

I used to paint bits then assemble, and found my models broke apart way to easily. Super/plastic glue just doesn't take to paint the way it does to plastic.

I've since moved to assembling then painting, and my models hold together much better (I'm not scared to just grab handfuls)

If there are any parts that you can't get to (but are still visible) once assembled, I usually leave only the blocking parts off

Don't do that! Give them flamers. Scions get an order that gives you Rending, abuse that with 4 deepstriking rending flamers. Their ap3 guns aren't really good and you should consider them a points tax more than anything.

Then deepstrike. Your options are valkyries, taurox primes and deepstriking if you ever want to win.

Remember you can take a tank commander as mandatory HQ, and he can drive an executioner if you so wish. Try to get as many boots on the ground as possible with your allied guard, so you don't get wiped out before your scions arrive.

Middle ground is the best option.

Assemble the model into workable parts so that all surfaces show.

Paint like an assembly line with one color at a time, especially for mass painting troops.

Assemble the model fully before washing them.

Wash before basing unless you just use plain bases.

Okay, so help me understand how to field Terminators. At first it seemed pretty simple, there's assault termies and shooting termies, and you give assault terminators thunder hammers if you want them to take out vehicles. But then I realized every shooty terminator comes stock with a powerful anti-vehicle melee weapon anyways.

Imperial (as well as Ork and non-daemonic Chaos) ships run on plasma reactors. Tau ships have the same nova reactor that Riptide uses, except bigger (or rather the Riptide reactor is a downscaled version of a starship reactor; scaling it down to that size was pretty dififcult which is why it's prone to overheating if you push it too far), which I believe work with dark matter or something. TH/SS is the premier way to say "I want to kill that" with terminators. They last long so long as they aren't drown in basic attacks.

Shooting terminators are different, their guns are best used against infantry while having their power fists, 2 guys instead with chain fists and then sarge derps around with his sword. These guys will eliminate normal infantry and tanks with ease.

Lighting claws do work vs MC, even more so if you have furious charge.

Terminators NEED a chaplin however. Their number of attacks is actually pretty low so it helps to ensure they hit. Aside from that petty much any type of termi can be useful, provided your opponent isn't "HURR D flamer or grav weapons" spam. Just don't play them, they aren't real people and they don't have feelings or rights.

So, I'm the poster above that got the Strike Force Ultra box set. In addition to the old battle force (rhino, some tactical marines and some scouts), that leaves me with ten assault terminators, ten regular terminators, a dreadnought, a stormraven and a land raider.

My initial plan was to have each squad of assault terminators take two Thunder Hammers each, then put one in the Stormraven and the other in the Land Raider while the shooty terminators all deep strike. But now I'm thinking maybe it'd be better to have one squad with all lightning claws and the other with all thunder hammers so I can have one specialize for infantry blobs and the other for heavier targets (probably deploy the lightning claws in the land raider so they can ride out to meet approaching blobs, while the rest go in the stormraven so they can precision drop on problematic enemies).

Also, I have no idea what to give the shooting terminators. Storm Bolters seem like utter shit for their model cost.

Put the Th/SS guys in the plane, give them chaplin.
Lightning claw guys hang in landraider.
Shootys deep strike
Dreadnought has multi-melta and underslug melta gun for extra tank killing power, he goes in plane to. If you have the points, make him a venerable.
Give plane hurricane bolters for extra infantry clear.
Make sure both the landraider and plane have extra armor upgrade, trust me on this. Helps on dread too.

Did the quick MathHammer. Turns out that Heavy Rail Rifles and High Yield Missile Pods do literally the same number of wounds on a standard Termie squad (0.83 with 3 Broadsides), and HRRs are actually worse when you're up against Stormshields.

Secondary weapons, Plasma is the better choice (1.87 wounds in rapidfire), but I can't remember the last time someone paid the 5 point tax for them. They're not as versatile as the SMS (albeit 0.67 wounds against Termies).

Anyway, a squad of Broadsides will kill 1-2 Terminators reliably. Not the optimal solution for them, but they'll do their job.

For anyone still not understanding this: Rail Rifles are shit, and you should never use them. Always go for the broadsides. Even if you cannot hurt AV14 with the missiles, you are far better off with the higher rate of fire, since a HRR Broadside will statistically only GLANCE an AV14 vehicle ONCE if shooting at the same target 6 times, IE the entire game. Being capable of penning AV13 isn't worth the lost rate of fire.

And instant death doesn't make up for it either.

Helcult functionally works by forcing you to bolter your way through a blob of Fearless cultists. It's not incredible, but if you were going to take the Brutes it does make them more survivable.

Assault cannon, HB, and bike bolters until they're dead, then hit the Brute with grav or melta. Not hard to beat, especially with Marines, just harder than a plain Brute.

Should be barely under 1000 points without any upgrades, That is just what I remember. As far as starters go he can pretty much run with it.

The Hell Brute and possessed would probably be served as transports for the marines, IMO.

What flyers are you facing where S7 isn't enough?

See, the problem is that you are comparing two options, where one is +1S, where the other is +3 shots. Against vehicles, you don't need the AP, it's far more effective just "glancing" them to death. You don't really care about that insta-death, especially for flyers. And honestly, I'd prefer getting shot by 3 railsides compared to 3 missilesides, because those missiles sides have a lot better chance to hit me, even without skyfire (In fact, screw skyfire, you don't need it on missilesides, just grab interceptor instead), and at S7, you can already Pen pretty much any flyer in the game.

They nerfed Railsides too hard. If they had nerfed them, and reduced their cost, allowing you to UPGRADE to missilesides at a cost, it might see use. As it is, you are taking them solely because you think the models look cooler. And considering how (subjectively) shit the new model look, compared to the old one, I see zero reasons to ever even consider them.

No, the RailGUN is great, because it packs S10 AP1, which can easily insta-death even a lot of the scary T5 MCs around. And if the broadsides still had railGUNS, they'd still be a good option, and a balanced one compared to the Missile variant.

The nerf from Railgun to "Heavy Rail Rifle" is what screwed them over. And probably one of the reasons people are running Riptides instead, because why the fuck would I run Broadsides with a singleshot S8 AP1 gun, when I can run a S9 AP1 Large Blast gun on a far more durable platform?

At least Tau are in a position where, aside from having a fucked internal balance, they are strong enough that I can reliably get an average win rate at about 50ish% by using no Riptides, and even including Vespids in my list.

Forgeworld isn't "better" than normal GW by any means. Some of it is good, some of it is straight up worse. Just like some GW made stuff is better than Forgeworld, and others are worse.

Forgeworld just adds some variety to some factions that they would really need, like flyers for SoB.

You do realize it says that if you shoot at the same target with 3 units, you gain the benefits, right? So if you start target-locking away at other units, you no longer gain the benefits. The rule is pretty wonky, not even making it 100% certain if it DOES spread special rules, but I can assure you, from the RAW, you ONLY get the bonus if you shoot with at least 3 units at the same target. Shooting at another unit with a single suit does fuck all, because you are only 1 "unit" shooting at that target, and therefore doesn't gain the benefit.

Honestly, they should just drop their price by 15 points, setting them to 50 points a piece, and then letting them upgrade to the missile pod version for 15 points. The missile broadside is balanced, it's only the HRR that is utter shit.

Rail rifles (the ones Pathfinders can take) are actually pretty nice. They're like plasma rifles except with better range and +1 on vehicle damage table. Too bad you can only take them on an exceedingly fragile unit, but that's not really the fault of the weapon.
Railguns are good anti-tank, and with submunition are decent at damaging hordes of GEQ as well. Even with s10, you still pretty much need to take Longstrike to reliably deal with av 14, though (since one shot at 50% chanse to damage isn't very reliable).

Heavy Railrifles are pretty much always inferior to missilesides, though. Only vehciles they're better against are av14, and even the only because they can glance them on 6s, which still doesn't make them in any way good at that role. They are actually slightly better than missiles against monsrous creatures with 3+ or 2+ saves, at least as long as said MCs don't have a very high invulnerable saves.

While I complain all day long that my hammerheads never ever do much of anything, I tend to not use them for tank killing duty, instead they shoot stuff to insta kill it. Actually has worked quite well for a while. The new tau codex lets you tau a squad of 3 BS 5 hammerheads, all with tank hunter if you take longstrike, but its quite a few points. Then again, that tank across the field? It's dead.

As a tau player, if the whole reason you are taking broasides is for str 7 at a shitty ap and lackluster range, on a platform that can't move, just take battlesuits with missile pods then, it's cheaper.

Cover protects as normal, still shit against vehicles, but are now far better as "snipers", taking out vital targets by forcing them to reroll successful invul saves. It would give them a niche they could actually fill, to a degree. At AP1 and ignores cover, they might just be capable of taking out at least SOME of the insane invul saves some people run (Storm shield terminators, for example), and at only 1 shot per turn for 65 points, it's not exactly super strong, and most people would probably still just throw riptides at them. But it would at least give it some sort of role, unlike now, where it does absolutely nothing.

I mean, shit, I run VESPIDS, and I feel THEY have a place in my army. I cannot justify the HRR Broadsides in any way, shape or form. They just don't do anything of note.

I thought the 3+ units thing only applies for getitng +1 bs. Two units could still combine their fire and benefit from the same markerlights etc., just without the +1 bs part.

The wording of the rule is a bit unclear, but they way I read it, since the decision to combine fire is done when you declare a target, a unit with target lock/split fire could declare multiple targets and have different units combine their fire againt the different targets (ie. broadside 1 from unit A declares a target, units B and C combine fire. Broadside 2 from unit A declares a target, units D and E combine fire). However, I don't think units combining their fire with the initial unit can use target lock/split fire, since the rule mentions them all having to shoot at the same target.

AV12 is still a problem for HRRs. 4 times as many shots are far more likely to hurt AV12 than a single +1S shot.

Against 3+ saves, the difference is miniscule, as proved by the table posted above. Add to that that missile broadsides are more flexible, where HRR are pretty much never going to earn back more points than a HYMP, unless you are really bad at positioning your units.

There was the one slightly odd change of making the Cyclic Ion Blaster and Airbursting Fragmentation Projector standard battlesuit weapons instead of Signature Systems. You can take an entire Crisis team of Ignore Cover mortars or short range missiledakka, although both of them have definite drawbacks.

It's really only weird because you can only get the weapon bitz in the commander box.

Tau Tactical objectives have a Kauyon feel to it. I guess that means that Farsight's Enclaves will be more oriented towards Mont'ka.

Warp Spiders will probably rape them. Monofiliment wounding versus initiative and they have the mobility to get within the 12" cover bonus range. The main issue is the Holophtoton Countermeasures if it's a unit of three, since as it's per model they'd get to use it three times. You might be able to fool a bad player into using them against shooting they don't need to use them against before following up with the killshot, but decent players won't fall for that.

Very doubtful. They're listed in the wargear list as a normal battlesuit gun, and they're not listed in the relic list at all. With how few things were changed I don't think they would have made a mistake like that. It does actually look like an intentional change.

This is also the race that actually develops their technology over time, so for Tau to have a gun go from an experimental prototype to a standard issue weapon in about two to three years actually fits their fluff.

No, only the Ghostkeel has it. They also double their bonus to cover saves from stealth and shrouded if the shooter is outside 12" giving them a 2+ cover save without having to toe-in-cover some ruins unless the enemy is already in charge range.

That said, they're only T5 and I2, so they're hardly invincible. Wraithknights absolutely demolish them.

How much do they cost? From what I'm looking at, I'm suspecting 140-180ppm range, but I suspect that's high.

Ironically HRR are only really good at fighting off other battlesuits. XV8 and XV88s just fold to them, especially with markerlight support. Meganobs and multi-wound Terminators too, though they're rarer.

However, HYMP is just way more flexible as you said. What HRR needs is either an upgrade to rapid fire or a points drop (8 points?).

Then you add in the cost for support systems, as they can get up to two per suit. This is where they can get very expensive or stay cheap depending on how you build them. Giving a unit of three FNP is +35 points each, and you're basically required to buy two target locks if you have a unit of three.

So, 140-180 is actually right on the money. If you want to be silly you can spend +50 pts for a shield generator (MCs have a different price table for Shield Generators and Stimulant Injectors), so if you buy both FNP and a 4++ you're looking at 130+(5-10)+85 for each suit.

Outside of their formation they're mediocre at those prices, but the formation makes them worth it. A unit that's always BS5 Ignore Cover without every needing markerlights is really nice for Tau, and being able to always hit rear armor takes it to the next level.

Funny, the Ghostkeels incorporate a sophist acted AI. Often, Tau pilots become so close to the AI, after spending long periods of time alone alone, that they prefer the company of the suit's AI to other Tau.
