A Gm looking for advice

Hello tg. I am a relatively new gm with a problem at my table (or my roll20 data space).

So here we go.
>I play with a group with a party a party of 4. I am running a low level game focused mostly on survival (for the moment) and rp. Two of my players really enjoy this style of game and have been very excited to be involved in it. One of my players is new to the group and doesn't have an opinion on it (he's only been in one session). But my other player seems like he hates it. He spends each session totally disengaged, he clearly prefers to play a high fantasy struggle for the fate of the world rather than doing mundane tasks like fighting over food. He also doesn't get involved much in RP (in any campaign) unless it's treating him like he's the most important member of the party so he doesn't enjoy interacting with characters in the world to search for a reason to help them (or even to come up with a reason to dislike them).

So how can I try to include him more without sacrificing this style of game? As I said two of my players like it so I don't want to run against that idea.

If it gives you any ideas the setting is the middle of desert during a famine. His character is a samurai gillman (pathfinder) which I allowed to have a hell hound for a mount because he really wanted it. And before you ask, he was aware it was going to be in a desert before he picked gillman.

Please don't suggest that I kick him out, he's a good friend of mine and if I kick him it will be almost impossible to find another player.
