Are the Incubi any good on the tabletop?
Also, how `much do the Incubi ultimately differ from the Aspect Warriors of the Craftworlds? They both stem from the same source after all, and the Path of Deldar books seem to heavily imply that the Incubi are in fact much closer to the Aspect Warriors, than they are to the average Deldar, in culture and mentality.

They are... decent. But decent, on melee, is not that good. You'll need support for them to survive turn 1/2, you know, the getting on melee thing. Once they are in, they can be pretty nasty, but they lack grenades, and have T3, so even on melee they can be a bit disappointing.

If you want them for the sake of it, then do it, they are cool and can pack a big punch, but back them up with either wracks, reavers, hellions (¿?) or, if you are crazy/masochist/both, wyches.

If you just want raw melee destruction, go full reavers+grotesques and call it a day.

Hey guys, was going to start up a smallish (500 - 1000) point IG army to play some friendly games with. Anyway, I have a few questions.

Looking through the troop choice selection can I just take 2 squads of vets or do I need to take a an enite infantry platoon?

Are plasma pistols on Squad Leaders worth taking? What special weapons should I focus on?

I was planning on leading up my squads in chimeras and taking some Sentinels. What's the best way to play these, armored or scout?

Any general advice for smaller games? I'm most likely to go up against other IG, Tau and GK/Inquisition.

They can be, but you've got to be extremely careful with them. A 3+ save is great, but T3 means they'll often be called upon to make a lot of armour saves, and the lack of grenades can be crippling. That said, they do hit extremely hard, and are one of the few Infantry units with AP2 melee weapons that aren't Unwieldy. Don't send them in against hordes and don't charge through cover unless you don't have any other choice - keep that in mind and they'll do pretty well.

As for their fluff, you're pretty much spot on. They have a huge amount in common with an Aspect Shrine, albeit a particularly brutal, merciless one that isn't afraid to let weaker aspirants die off. Given that they were set up by a Pheonix Lord, that shouldn't be too surprising.

You can take either platoons or vets, both are troop choices. So 2 vet squads would be fine.

Plasma pistols are generally never worth their cost. As for the special weapons, it depends on who you are fighting but it's usually best to not mix special weapons in the same unit.

I can't speak to the sentinals, don't have enough experience.

Sentinels are handy things to have around. Armored Sentinels are juuuuust tough enough to require actual firepower to kill, and can pack enough dakka to either force your opponent to dedicate a proper anti-tank gun to them, or to suffer some pain if he ignores them. And as walkers, if they get in melee the foe has to get through their front armor, so they can make a decent tarpit at need.

Scout Sentinels will die the moment something looks at them funny, but that's okay. Between the firepower they can pack and Outflank, they're a great suckerpunch unit. Walk off a board edge, point your heavy weapon of choice and a hunter-killer missile at some poor bastard's side or rear armor, and collect tears.

Sammael is a mediocre beatstick with a Plasma cannon for 200 points. In melee he will kill 2-3 marines at most. AP2, but you don't want to be in melee with things with a 2+ or you are likely getting shit on. You have plasma guns. Use them.

MM Landspeeders aren't bad. I run one with the Attack Squadron formation, where you get 2 Meltas, COmbi-Melta, Melta Bomb, AB with MM and the 2x MM Speeder for around 245.

If the speeder hits your other squadmates go BS5 until end of turn.

As a unit with the shroud, you will get shot at a lot. You don't want to be jinking with Multimeltas.

21 Heavy Bolter Shots at 36" will kill mobs, which is something you will struggle with. Additionally, Ravenshield is amazing. Overwatch on Any Ravenwing unit (including this one). Strafing run means you are getting BS5 shooting and extra movement.

Apothecary is a no brainer for the points, especially on how expensive your units are.

Point for point, if you make 1 FNP, you have gotten more than the points back. Champion is important to take challenges off your Chaplain or Sammael so they can shred the squadmates.

Banner is critical so you don't get bogged down, and a guaranteed hit and run with 4D6 has won me games.

You cannot be bogged down in melee or you will die. Period. Your black knights are decent in melee. The rest die like power armoured marines. Don't be in melee unless it's with something you are sure you can wipe out.

Games are won and lost with deployment; scout moves and turbo boosting your first turn can set the pacing.

Sometimes I will hang back and let my opponent overextend, focus all the weight of fire into an isolated area, and then turboboost out before his forces can respond.

Chaos is in a bad place...heads up for your friend. Maybe split a dark vengeance box with your buddy though if he's really dead set, it's not a bad deal, some sweet looking models too...

The Court is actually pretty good. Sslyths are sort of the inverse of Incubi; they don't hit terribly hard, but by DE standards they're really quite tough. Four of them in a Venom can be a nice way to escort an Archon with a Huskblade - they can tarpit the rest of the unit while the Archon pokes Characters to death. Medusae are the other option worth looking at, especially if you use a Webway Portal to drop the unit in without scattering. A small unit of reasonably priced St4 AP3 flamers in the right place can really do some damage.

Ur-Ghuls and Lhameans aren't too useful though, so skip them.

I just think it's kind of stupid that all the new fortification rules are in kauyon but not the main Tau codex. maybe they don't want to include them there since fortification use is specifically a Kauyon tactic and maybe won't even be allowed with formations or detachments in the coming Mont'ka book.

Not to my knowledge, no. Unless I've missed something, that's never been stated or implied. Kahandras' armour would be the suit Kahandras wore when he was still a living person.

Remember that, as the Incubi tell their version of the legend, Ahra returned to his pupils after being corrupted by Chaos (which came about because the other Pheonixes abandoned him), and ordered them to kill him in combat - essentially committing ritual suicide before he was subsumed by Chaos. There's no reason why the Incubi wouldn't have simply taken possession of his armour, assuming their version of events is true.

It's not embeded in their blade so much as taking one is a right of passage. Check out the Incubi models, every single one has a soulstone hanging off of him somewhere, usually on their armor's "wings."
