Outlaw Star began in January of 1998, Bebop started in April but got shit canned and had to restart in the following October. Bebop literally got 12 (non-linear) episodes out before the plug was pulled on it and it went into hiatus.
Outlaw Star's popularity had no relation with Cowboy Bebop's popularity. If it did, we wouldn't have had a shitty spin-off series from Outlaw Star, but we did.
