Hey /trv/, first time I've visited this board but I'm hoping someone here can help me out, or at least point me in the right direction.
I've been hired for an English teaching position in China, more specifically in the city of Changchun in the Jilin province. I have signed and sent all the required documents for my visa, except for my Non-Criminal Record. Unfortunately, due to a stupid mistake 6 months ago, I have a single misdemeanor on my record and I don't know how I should proceed. Because the indecent was less than a year ago I can't have it expunged from my record, creating a bit of a problem. I'm hoping someone here who has either gone through the system or knows more can advise me on my next course of action.
The way I see it, I have a few options. I could buy a fake online somewhere (but I don't know where I would even look for that). I could get a print out of my criminal record from my local police department, scan it, and then photoshop the single misdemeanor out of it (but it still has to get certified by the Chinese Embassy so if they check they would see it's faked). Finally, I can always tell the company about the misdemeanor and hope they are still able to get me a visa to come work (but apparently the restrictions for a work visa are getting tighter and I don't know if I could get one without all the required documents).
If you have any advice or knowledge that may help me please let me know. If you prefer to communicate privately I can give you my email. I would be devastated if my stupidity kept me from this opportunity, I'm desperate /trv/, please help me.
I'm trying to set up a trip for this coming summer. Since I'm not liable to have a particularly big budget, I was considering traveling around Southeast Asia. I might fly directly to Bangkok or spend a few days in New Delhi first, considering that I have a 5- or 10-year multiple-entry visa for India. I tend to like chaotic, crazy, and bustling cities, as well as good food and friendly people. I'm not a virgin and have a girlfriend, so sex tourism isn't a draw for me in the slightest.
How do the costs of traveling SEA (Malaysia and Singapore excepted) compare to South Asia? Is Thailand as cheap as India in most regards? What are people like? Are foreigners - specifically single, white males - often regarded as sex tourists?
Gonna be honest in saying that I've never had much of an interest in the region. It just seems like the sort of place bogans go to get fucked up and bang ladyboys, but everybody keeps talking about how great it is.
What's a decent daily budget for somebody who's traveled a lot? Not interested in guided tours and the like, primarily because I'm not a richfag. Just want to see some cool stuff, meet interesting people, and get lost in a new corner of the world for a few months.
Am open to any and all recommendations, inside Thailand, around the region, or elsewhere. Was also thinking about South America. I have $1.2k in Delta flight vouchers, so airfare isn't a problem to most places.
Hey /trv/! I live in the US and have already grown very tired of the humdrum of working life (I'm only 20, been working since I was 15) I want to hit the road for a few years and explore this wonderful planet we call home, and in turn find out who I really am in the absence of expectation. I have several questions about road life, the most prominent one being will i be safe? I am currently residing in Casper, WY. and plan on heading south to California meet up with some travelers I met in Chicago. Whats the best way to get to get to Cali from Wyoming? Hitchhike? Train? I have a budget of around $1500. I need a sleeping bag, backpack, ect. What kind of backpack should I buy for extended travel? Is there an all seasons tent that I can pick up on the cheap? Are there any items I might need that have yet to cross my mind? Any help and/or resources you can offer me are greatly appreciated. NOTE: I have read the sticky and it did not provide the information i was looking for.
So, I've been into travel for a while, and I'm trying to figure out the best place to go. I grew up in a small town, so it would be good for me to see a bigger part of the world.
Best on my research, the best places in the world are:
Helsinki, Montreal, Copenhagen, Tel Aviv, and Amsterdam.
What do you think of my list and do you know which one of these cities is the best and why?
Hey everyone, I am an American who has been teaching English in Japan for 4 years, and I plan on staying here permanently. If anybody has any questions about teaching English in Japan or any general TEFL related questions in general let me know.
