Anyone here teach English in South America? Anyone in Peru, in particular?

I really want to spend some time in Lima, but after some basic research, it looks like it can be hard to find a teaching job in Lima from overseas, but I don't really want to spend money on a flight down there without being rather certain of getting a job.

If anyone has been through the process there, or in other Latin American cities, I guess (I suppose the process may be similar), I'd appreciate input.

Moving to France

So I'll be moving to Paris sometime in either December or January with the intention of teaching ESL. I'm an EU citizen with a bachelor's degree and CELTA certification. Has anyone else here moved to France? How difficult was it to find work, either in ESL or in some other line of work? I was thinking working at an anglo bar or something would also be a decent way to make money if TEFL doesn't pan out. Any advice for living in Paris/France?

Posted this over on /int/ as well as I wasn't sure what the best place for it would be:

Anyone have any experience with teaching English overseas?

I haven't approached any institutions as of yet, but I'm giving serious consideration to finding a country and dedicating my time to learning the language and teaching English. Preferably some part of Asia (Taiwan, China, S.Korea, Japan, Vietnam).

I'm a 27 year old guy from Australia and currently don't have a degree, just a diploma. Plan on getting a degree (I've heard countries like Japan and South Korea won't even look at you unless you have some form of 4 year degree) and feel that I need to travel first before I commit to it, as I think I'm getting too old to leave it any longer. I don't want to work in a bar or waiting tables while I travel, so teaching English seems the way to go.

Just looking for a general idea of what it's like to live abroad as an English teacher. What kind of income I can expect, living conditions, the food, how other people perceived you (as a teacher) and whether you found it to ultimately be a rewarding experience, or a waste of time. Also what courses I should be looking at and the differences, for example TESOL or TEFL (I'll look more into them after I have a general idea from here of what to expect).

Thanks guys

Maritime Road Trip

No.1043269 ViewReplyReportDelete
My wife and I will be doing a road trip out east next summer. I have a rough idea of a route with some cities and sights we want to visit. Im here to get some advice on things to see, things you've heard of or seen yourself, famous or little known.

We like historic sites, natural sights, vistas, unique lodgings, even some novelty attractions. Tell us about it all.

Anyone know any cool places to check out in Toronto? Some places with great views of the city or a nice hiking path for photography would be real nice. I'm new to the city and would love to check out some landscapes.
