Trans-Siberian Railway General

No.1042623 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hoping to take the Trans-Mongolian Railway from Beijing to Ulan Bator to Moscow in January. Staying a few days in each place, I want to spend as little as possible but am considering getting one of the better classes on the train.

Planning the logistics of this holiday seem like a nightmare. I think there must be a million little things I'm not considering. Booking tickets that include stopping at places along the way seems especially complicated.

Anyone done the Trans-Siberian Railway before and want to share their experiences or give some advice?
When and where to buy tickets and for how much?
What class is best?
How to interact?
What to expect?
Anything?

New Japan General since the old one is past the bump limit:

As always, feel free to ask about:
>Travelling to Japan
>Living in Japan
>Teaching in Japan
>Joining the Yakuza

Also info on prostitution http://rockitreports.com/category/sex-in-tokyo/

Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

Please refrain to the old thread while it's still up: >>1037419

Working/volunteering abroad?

No.1045687 ViewReplyReportDelete
Are there any work/volunteer programs abroad that don't suck ass or cost $5000? I want to travel and actually /do/ something, whether it's wildlife conservation or being an au pair, but everything I've looked for is always hyper expensive or "work teaching children for 16 weeks with no pay in sierra leone".

Has /trv/ ever found a good place to find overseas work that doesn't require an advanced degree or thousands of dollars?

Must see places in all 50 states

No.1045773 ViewReplyReportDelete
whether it's landscape, museums, or some other unique trait, what should you definitely see if you're traveling to a certain state? VA here, looking to travel most of the USA later in life if I get enough funds.

if you want VA, i'd recommend anything history related, we're overloaded with that. confederacy museum and the capitol to name some.
