>>1043092Sorry OP, I think Midleton in Ireland is #1, and was the last distillery doing things the olden ways.
I get that you like whisky, or rather Scotch, but I think peaty smoke ruins it over there in Scotland. That's my 2 cents. But, what you should do is tour these places because you like their flavor and it's a neat thing you do on your vacation in a town with limited options for tourism. I hate to say "seen one, seen em all" but after you've done one of them, you got the novelty down pat, and the whisky facilities are pretty similar aside from something lovely in the grounds or buildings, same goes for wineries too, like can you enjoy the vista or not, and do they offer food to pair with the drinks....but with sheer acreage, Macallan has the prettiest facilities there. What you do want, is any tour that pairs you with a master. The palate on those folks will make your visit unforgettable. Also, bring some serious cash for your duty frees, because distilleries all offer only-for-visitors rare aged blends that you can't buy in stores or online, which you'll pay dearly to take home, but not regret buying. As a perk, they might insured/ship it for you, so you don't deal with it on your flight yourself.
