>>1043353>NS: Cape Breton is literally the Scottish highlands with more unemployed fisherman and drunk natives. Would only recommend going as far up as Antigonish or Louisbourg probably the best preserved Fort Ive ever seen. Halifax is great of course and try checking out New Glasgow my hometown its been voted the worst place to live in Canada 4 years runningGeez, what a negative view of the world. What joblessness locals have is nothing to do with "what to do" on vacation. You're having him skip the biggest reason to go to Cape Breton, the amazing Cabot Trail drive!
The fort is not best/awesome, just that you've never done anything better. That's fine, but it's your lack of experience. But, it's a bit out of the way for driving the loop of the Cape and if OP is pretty heavy along other coasts in the south of Nova Scotia, he'll get plenty of French Acadian culture, food and education, esp in Annapolis Royal.
OP, I would highly recommend an itinerary that gives you 2-3 days in Cape Breton. A night in Baddeck, another before and after the day's drive of the Cabot Trail. Choices of pre- and post- drive towns to sleep in are up to you, but lots of lookoffs, sunset is lovely, as are a couple small beaches and serious or short day hikes. You'll find yourself pushing it for daylight if you rush in and out of the park without this double overnight sandwich to the timeline there. Outside of the drive, there's fun to be had in Baddeck, from a lake sail to a museum, to a night of some great bar music. I also found the Gaelic College fascinating, needing 2hrs or so to have lunch, hear music and lectures, and walk the displays. If you have been to Ireland/Scotland or Wales, you'll appreciate it more, not less, because the isolation of NS has led to a time warp of preserved culture (and some music evolution).
