How hard is it to get marijuana as a tourist in the United States?

I've heard you can get a prescription from a doctor but that's about it. Anyone got methods or a cost?

Depends on the state. Recreational marijuana is legal in Alaska, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon. I've only been to Colorado and Washington since they legalized, but only in Colorado can anyone walk into a recreational shop and buy whatever they want with no questions asked. Washington, you still need a marijuana card to purchase (but totally legal to bum off others, which I do when I visit my parents in Seattle). And not sure about Alaska and Oregon. From what I understand, because Alaska is so sparsely populated and doesn't have much culture to speak of, most smokers just grow their own to smoke at home.

I tried to get weed in Asheville NC. There were crusties everywhere. I got plenty of leads, the first im pretty sure he was gonna mug me so I ditched, second was surely a cop so I ditched, then walking back to my car a 16 year old hispanic kid tried to get me to fight him. Don't try too hard OP, i wouldn't stray outside the hostel for it.

I'm sure west coast even moreso, but Asheville is easy mode. I wouldn't try to buy it off the street, but make some American friends and as long as they're not religious or otherwise weird, they'll be able to find you some and probably smoke with you as long as you're cool

If you're actually going to San Diego it's hella easy. Just go to a dispensary with a doctor. Say you aren't sleeping well and pay around $50 for a card. You can then buy at around $15 a gram.

You can literally fly to Denver, walk into a pot shop, and walk out with an ounce of weed. All you need is proof you're over 21 and the money to buy it.

Despite the fact that 'medical' weed dispensaries are all over the place and the drug is de facto legal here in San Francisco (local cops have for many years stated that busting pot smokers is not a priority--people with and without the card smoke openly on virtually any street), there are still lots of street dealers (most of whom carry medical MJ cards and below-maximum-personal-use quantities). There are particularly thick congregations on Haight St and on Market St between Civic Center and Powell. You will pay a little too much but should receive high-quality cannabis, and the chance of getting busted is negligible. Or you can visit a weed doc--takes an hour, a symptom, and $50 or so. You then have access to the retail market, which is much cheaper and offers great variety of what is probably the world's best stuff.

In Seattle you just text a number with your address and order and they deliver in 30mins. They check to make sure you're over 21 with your ID though.
