Chicago somewhat less, because the fun there is pretty spread out and a car is preferred. New Orleans is indeed a good place to visit, but I've never done it without renting a car from the airport to town, and though I didn't use the car much, it's a pretty big trek from Kenner. Charleston is pretty nice right now, as is Savannah. Southwest is best used out west, imho.
A frequent traveler will tell you it doesn't matter where you go, because you'll eventually hit the rest of your dream ciities to visit down the line. Just decide what kind of vacation you would like this year....do you want rest? relaxation? clubbing? interesting culture? museum and art time? Once you get that established, you could literally do a few minutes research on 3 cities and find a spark of interest in one that weighs out the other choices for the week you have in mind. It might be you use the ticket to go visit a friend somewhere who will host you for an extended weekend, and though they don't take the time off work, you get a free bed/couch, and a great neighborhood as a launching ground (free). Airfare isn't the big expense of trips anymore. But, having a buddy for dinner (which you can gratefully buy for them occasionally), is a bit more fun than alone trips. Know any family friends that live somewhere cool?
