I have $40,000 USD.

I know this won't last me _that_ long in the US, but are there any (safe) countries that it would last me longer in?

Without working $40,000 would last you quite a while in the US. To answer your question, basically any country where the exchange rate favors the dollar. So pretty much anywhere that's not West and Central Europe.

You could live modestly but comfortably for two or three years in Southeast Asia with that much without trying too hard. (Or you could also live like a hobo for much longer or live it up for much shorter, yes, obviously.) Only challenge would be visas. The only place in Southeast Asia where someone can secure a long-term visa without a local job, a local wife, or more money than you have is Cambodia (where thanks to a legal gray area you can buy a more-or-less infinitely renewable business visa on extremely flimsy pretexts for a few hundred bucks). Not 100% safe, but not a war zone, and can be a lot of fun.

If you don't have much of a education, it can be hard to get work visas in many countries. If you had 50000 USD, you could buy a property in Ecuador, and qualify for citizenship there.

A lot of countries have similar programs, the required amount of cash goes up with the quality of the country for the most part.

I'm a swissfag leaving soon with around 25k$, I plan to travel around 18 months with that.

I'll go in the balkans, cross Russia to join my brother in China and see some cheap asian countries.

I plan to stay 3 months in Ukraine, a city like Lviv is safer than the US by far and average income is around 200$ a month.

Move to Mexico. I know you might hear a ton of shit about mexico atm, but it's got great, very safe places. Mexico city for instance, packed with museums, great architecture, people from all voer the world, and a great weather. It is also very safe, no narcos or shit like that. You could also go to a nice beach, like Sayulita, or puerto escondido. Really safe, clean, beautiful beaches. Great food too!

Pretty sure it's only $25,000 needed, and it doesn't have to be property, can just be a bank Certificate of Deposit that pays decent interest.

Paraguay also has a similar program for only like $5,000 deposit

Perhaps skip the Philippines then.
If you're business savvy, China might be good, but not the big cities. Some parts of Africa are reasonably safe, but it depends on how Catholic/Jewish/Muslim/Christian/gay/white/black you are, and where you are.

I'm pretty much in the same position as you. Starting my voyage with 25k in Switzerland though not a native, except I have nowhere to return to at the end of it.

Switzerland is so expensive I figured traveling around would still be a better idea if I want to make the money last. I'd never leave this country if I could afford it.

Philippines is about as safe as you can get. As long as you stay with Cebu or the northern islands there isn't an issue. Ive lived here off and on in Cebu for about 10 years.
