If you have a spare day, I really loved Nara. Hakone is worth a visit too.

Been to two of this small japanese - can't really call them restaurants - places in Kyoto so far, food is delicious, prices were ok as well, awesome atmosphere and staff

On the touristy weird Japan end of the scale, the Ninja Restaurant in Tokyo was kitschy as fuck but fun.
