Honestly, the city itself is fairly modern, but that market gave me the creeps. So much poverty...South Korea may be a "first world" country but I would not put it on the same exact level of america, canada or western europe.

Mate, this is the same even in Seoul in some parts. Walk off the main street for 2 minutes and you can see all the same stuff. It stinks and there's meat in buckets and it's filthy.
